Great River Federal Credit Union & Credit Union 1 have announced that they will be merging on September 30, 2025. Credit Union 1 operates in IL and has offered a $500 checking bonus in the past, Great River Federal Credit Union operates in MN and offers a $150 bonus with no direct deposit required. It’s unclear what name the combined entity will operate under.
Holy cow, they’re currently merging with *five* other CUs.
I assume the merged name would be Great 1 FCU.

It seems like they’ll be merging INTO CU1, taking their name maybe
Yeah, I would agree with that. If you go into the FAQ, it’s heavily implied.

“Will my account number change?Yes, your account number will change. After October 1, be sure to update any external parties—such as your employer (for payroll), service providers (for ACH transactions), or lenders—with your new Credit Union 1 (CU1) routing and account numbers”
“You will continue to use Great River Federal Credit Union’s online/mobile banking until the system conversion date September 30, 2025. Once the conversion of systems occurs, you will then use Credit Union 1’s Digital Banking platform and highly rated mobile app. Banking anytime, anywhere has never been simpler.”
To save money, not having to rebrand all branches/signage/ads/documents, it makes sense to pick one name or the other. Appears Credit Union 1 won the competition.
