The Fine Print
- Valid only for new members and those whose memberships expired prior to May 1, 2019. Not valid for renewal of an existing Costco membership.
- The one-year Costco Gold Star Membership Activation Certificate includes one additional Household Card for anyone over the age of 18 and living at the same address.
- Valid at U.S. Costco locations only.
- Valid until December 31st, 2019
Our Verdict
Unfortunately this doesn’t work for existing Costco members and you need to not have had a membership as of May 1st, 2019 to be eligible. Don’t forget to go through a portal for an additional 8% back. This isn’t as good as the recent membership offers from Chase & Barclays where you got $40 back. But those were targeted, so this is a good option that is available to everybody. Costco is also currently having a sale on Uber gift cards.

As another DP, went to activate my membership from this deal today. They offered me an executive member upgrade for $60 and a bag with samples (maybe $10 value). Groupon deals still applicable and can get the $60 back if it isn’t earned via the executive membership.

Which portal works with this offer? The 8% and 6% portals specifically exclude Costco membership offers. Looks like the 5% one should work.
I have no idea why this happened but I basically got $50.50 Groupon Bucks for buying this for free($0).

You might be able to redeem $20 Groupon Bucks from T-Mobile Tuesday Groupon promo in 2 days after registering for it.

I’ve been to Costco very few times but never paid close attention to prices. Is it really cheaper than local grocery chains? I mostly buy the basics at following prices: chicken breast $1.99/lb, Broccoli $2.99/lb, Bananas $.59, $ Chobani Yogurts $1..
Your local prices may vary, but bananas are $1.29 for 3 lbs, broccoli $5.99 for 3 lbs, chicken I only buy organic so I don’t know the price of regular. Chobani is 20 cups for $14 ish, but you only get the 4 flavors that the box comes with. It goes on sale every few months and then it’s like $10 a box.
Yeah, plus gas prices are usually the cheapest in any area

They check ID. Has to have the same address.
I’ve been added as household member in my Friend’s account residing in different places. Friend had to accompany me to the store that time. They just did not ask anything more than an ID to be scanner and photo for the card. This was 2 years back and in VA. Probably just depends on the Costco associate.
