Groupon launched today ‘Groupon Select’ which offers instant discounts on Groupon purchases and more benefits for $4.99 per month.

The full benefits of becoming a Groupon Select member include:

Discounts apply automatically at checkout (no promo codes to enter), and there are no savings caps or order minimums. Groupon Select is currently available in the United States with plans to expand internationally.
Groupon offers a 6 months subscription with the first month free. Just beware that you are locked in for the next 6 months with this subscription. There may be a way to go month-by-month, but that option is not apparent.

Our Verdict
I don’t buy Groupons that often, but I can see this being worthwhile for those who do. Even one or two purchases per month might get more than $5 benefit value.
I made the mistake of joining. I was lured by the promise of 10% off my Groupon purchase to an amusement park. 4 tickets, 10% off ($3.50 each ticket), that’s $14 saved. I didn’t read the fine print that it was a six month contract with the first month free. So I’m stuck. As D.O.C. mentioned, it is essentially $25 for six months.
I will say this… what’s really nice about it is that it is blanket 10% off any Groupon purchase, even ones that say in the fine print that they don’t work with Groupon discounts. HOWEVER, if you are planning on buying multiple of the same Groupon, the savings will only reflect 10% off of only one of the multiple. What you need to do is just make multiple individual purchases and you will get the 10%. In my case I was buying four amusement park tickets. I just bought them one at a time, which irked my credit card (f*** BOA).
Another really nice thing is that it applies to food delivery and pickup. I’ll be using this to get 10% off my local bubble tea joint with pickup option.
I just bought a BJ’s membership. With the $2.50 saved on that, I’m at $16.50 saved. Just gotta find a way to save $8.50 in 5 months to correct my mistake.
I was able to get 50% off twice, saved me over $30 bucks.
The Groupon Select discount works on Universal Studios Orlando tickets if you have an upcoming trip. Regular Groupon coupons won’t work for the tickets.
Strange they’re doing a press release now. It’s been out for well over a year.
I wonder if I’ll get 25% off a list. That would make the membership free.
Livingsocial had this a long time ago (before they got bought by groupon). It’s not a bad deal if you regularly buy stuff, but I think businesses have caught on to groupon being a rip-off for them so the “deals” these days are nothing special
I’ve been seeing it offered for quite a few months, with the aforementioned Groupon Bucks bonus. Definitely not new.

This has been there for quite some time,earlier I had offer of get $20 when you join so essentially you are paying $10 for 6 months of groupon select.
I would use this, but generate a ton of points through shopping portal when groupon x10 per mile. My concern would be that you wouldn’t be able to get the miles because there would be some sort of additional discount/code in there. The shopping portals always state you can’t add an additional code?
This isn’t new btw, it’s been out for at least a month. This is just another promo. the previous one they offered Groupon Bucks worth 6 months of the membership account. The discounts on travel can be well worth it, but they say that’s limited time.
Agree – I bought a few vouchers on 7/14 and was offered a groupon select membership at checkout to get 25% off, but balked when I ready the 6 month commitment as I have no future planned groupon purchases. There was a 20% off promo code at the time which was good enough.
It did not appear that it would stack 25% & 20% so perhaps we’ll see fewer 25/30% off codes as they try to push people to their subscription service.
