Hawaiian Airlines & Japan Airlines Announce New Partnership

Hawaiian Airlines & Japan Airlines have announced a new partnership that will start on March 25th. They want to “ease and comfort of travel for passengers traveling between the two island chains, with extensive code sharing, lounge access and frequent flyer reciprocity”. I suspect readers will be most interested in that last point of frequent flyer reciprocity. Unfortunately it seems that at least to begin with this will only be the ability to earn miles on code share flights, but they do say they will expand award redemption options at a later date. Fingers crossed that sooner rather than later.

FWIW: NRT-KOA way on JAL was full when I flew last month. Great service as always on JAL, and HA always has great service so in that sense would be a great parentership.

Almost all redeyes from NRT were going to Hawaii. Those 2 markets are a perfect match, Hopefully JL and HA can make it work for every-body, but I’m not holding my breath for significant redemption or mileage earning potential.

They announced this last year but no details were provided then. Now it’s March and still no details.

Looks like NH’s A380 had brought huge pressure to the red ocean, CI just gave up the cutting throat market, who’s next.

“earn miles on code share flights”

Wow. Earning Hawaiian miles on a Hawaiian ticket, and JAL miles on a JAL ticket. Shocking.

I’m all for earning JL miles on a HA ticket, especially given their slim pickings for earning miles with other carriers. Where have you been crediting otherwise, VS?

tbh though if it means we can use HA to fly JL, I’m all for it. otherwise that cards frequent 50k bonus isn’t worth the time.
