Hilton Extending Status, Points & Relaxing Requirements

Hilton has announced it will be extending status, points & more. The following will happen:

  • Status extended through March 31, 2023
  • Points expiration will be paused until December 31, 2022
  • Relaxing 2022 qualifications around earning Status, Milestone Bonuses, and Status Gifting from 2019 requirements to make these benefits easier to achieve.  In 2022, Hilton Honors members will earn the following:
    • Status Tier Requirements
      • Silver status at seven nights, three stays or 17,500 Base Points.
      • Gold status at 28 nights, 14 stays or 52,500 Base Points.
      • Diamond status at 42 nights, 21 stays or 84,000 Base Points.
    • Milestone Bonuses
      • 10,000 Bonus Points at 30 nights.
      • 10,000 Bonus Points for every 10 additional nights (after 30 nights).
      • One-time 30,000 Bonus Points at 60 nights.
    • Elite Status Gifting
      • A one-time gift of Gold status for a friend or family member at 40 nights, which can be upgraded to Diamond status at 70 nights.
  • Extending Rollover Nights for members of every status level, so all completed 2021 nights automatically roll over and count toward 2022 tier qualifications.
  • Continuing flexibility of certain benefits for U.S. Hilton Honors American Express Card Members through Dec. 31, 2022.
    • Free Weekend Night Certificates, including those issued in 2022 can continue to be used any night of the week (not just on weekends).
    • Hilton Honors Bonus Points earned from eligible purchases on any Hilton Honors American Express Card will continue to count as Base Points toward Elite tier qualification and Lifetime Diamond status through Dec. 31, 2022.

Hilton has already extended status in the past due to COVID-19, not a huge surprise to see another extension.

To my surprise, I received an email from HIlton on 9/14/21 informing that I’d been upgraded to Diamond status. I have the HH AMEX business card which confers gold status, but I can’t recall meeting either the stays, nights or base points thresholds needed for Diamond status qualification– even after they were lowered for 2021 to 50% of their normal levels.

Ugh, really wish they would extend the free night certs one last time. So many that I don’t know what to do with or how to use by Jan 1, 2022.

Did you try calling in to request an extension? I did the last year and they matched the expiration of all my certficates to the latest expiring certificate I had.

When you have no benefits from status it is easy to extend then

I’ve gone from zero to Gold during the pandemic. Nothing about my experience at the hotels has changed.

Status is only worth something outside of the US.

Are the free night certs from 2020 included in the extension? Or did they expire in August? I haven’t kept up.

No change here.
before-2020 -> jan 1 2022 (soon)
early 2020 -> 24 months from issue (so jan-may-ish 2022)
late 2020 and all of 2021 -> dec 31 2022

The one thing that probably matters to most that they are not offering is an extension on the free night certificates from the AMEX Aspire card it sounds like.

That’s unfortunate. I have couple nights that I have to used before Jan/2022.

I booked a reservation for summer ’22 with my husbands HH account (Gold) with points, but I have Diamond status and will now have it through that trip. Does anyone know if it’s possible to switch the reservation to my account so that we will have Diamond status for our stay?

So if I already have gold from their business card do I need to meet all of the requirements for diamond or do I subtract the gold requirements from the diamond requirements and that’s all I need?

Yes. Gold status from a credit card does not get you any closer to diamond, you still have to meet the nights (or the spend on an eligible card). By contrast, marriott did provide a boost by awarding free nights based on your bonvoy status from 2020 (golds got 12 nights credit, plats got 25 nights credit for 2021).

Great! Will they extend their shitty “breakfast credit” as well?

Excellent so I get to keep my diamond status even though I downgraded my aspire over a year ago.

I thought you lose the status as soon as you get rid of the card?

I would love to know this as well as i’m considering getting rid of the card soon.

Cancelled mine in May, and I still have diamond status. P2 cancelled in March, and she still has diamond as well.

So if I cancel my platinum, which offers Hilton Gold, I will still have gold status till the end of 2022? I thought the status extension offer is not related to status earning through credit card.
