[Expired] How To Get The Chase IHG 80,000 Point Offer

Update: The phone offer no longer works, but you can still secured message to get matched to this bonus. More information here.

The current best public sign up bonus on the Chase IHG card is $50 statement credit after first purchase and 60,000 points after $1,000 in spending within three months. In this post we will show you how to get 80,000 points after $1,000 in spending within three months. In the past it’s been possible for some to get 80,000 points + $50 by doing a dummy booking on the IHG site, so give that a try first (or log into your account and try this link).

Call & Request Offer

This was originally posted on /r/churning by 2131andBeyond. But I found an even easier method via Flyertalk user prech. Here’s what you do:

  • Call 8772740851
  • Press 1 to apply
  • It’ll repeat the offer details

Warning: I assume this is a real Chase number, but I have no way of confirming.

Apply For Lower Offer + Ask To Be Matched

This has been working for awhile now, you basically just apply for the best public sign up bonus and then call/secure message Chase asking them to match you to the higher 80,000 points. Some people have been able to keep the $50 statement credit and others have had that portion of the offer removed.

Our Verdict

80,000 points is about as good as it gets for public bonuses, some of you may want to hold out for 80,000 + $50 offers but if you have a plan for IHG points I’d just grab this offer now. I think the phone option is a much safer bet, but asking for a match might be worth the risk if you can get the extra $50. Again, personally I’d just go for the phone offer.

I saw the offer page. But when I clicked apply now, I got this:

Thank you for your interest in becoming an
IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Cardmember.
This offer is not available, but you are now being
redirected to another great IHG® Rewards Club

Then it become 60000 points and no statement credit.

The chase “limits” on recently opened accounts apply now to co-branded cards, right?

  5. Brian says:

Just called and the 80K bonus offer! Thanks so much for posting!

  6. Free Fries says:

I know Chase has a history of matching recent applications. Any data points on this? If I opened a IHG card for 60k in late Nov 2015 is it worth calling to ask for a match?

how much is the cash value of these 80,000 points? ………..$800? I never stay in hotel or book tickets online. can I redeem it as cash on ultimate rewards, like I do on my chase freedom & saffire?

  10. Alfred says:

Had some points in my account. Was trying to book a hotel in kerala, india and it showed me the 80K + $50 statement credit offer.Bummer since i already have a IHG card.
But wife account with 0 IHG points showed only 60K points. Anyways went ahead and applied for wife over phone. Hope it gets approved. Thanks Doc!

  11. Ben says:

Just tried the phone number. It was for the 80,000 point offer. I got sent to pending.

About 10 minutes earlier I successfully applied for the Freedom (getting in before 5/24!), so I’m assuming that’s why? My score is in the 760’s.

  12. Minh says:

Without logging into my account, I was able to get the 80k plus $50 statement offer to pop by just clicking on the link.

  13. Abdul says:

Called the number in your post, asked specifically for the 80k offer and I was approved with a cl of 23k 🙂

  14. HML says:

I got it will take 10 days for a response – is that bad news?

  15. PG says:

I called the number expecting an automated system. Slow process applying with a young woman on the other end, but she did quote 80k, annual fee waived 1st year. Now, unfortunately, I have to wait up to 10 days for their response…

  16. WL says:

I just called the phone number listed here and the lady who answered the phone did say 80000 point offer but NO annual free night.

  17. Justin says:

I just got approved for a Chase Sapphire Prefered card. With a $5000 limit. I honestly was pretty surprised I was approved because currently I only have the following cards: Chase Freedom $2000 limit Discover $500 limit Best Buy $2000 limit I currently bank with Chase and haven’t applied for a credit card since 2014.
I am currently in Graduate school and will be graduating one year from now and plan on doing some traveling coming up soon and I know I will be spending a lot of money in the next year so I will be able to take advantage of a lot of the rewards credit cards offer.
My question is should I apply to get another credit card right now to take advantage of the rewards?
Sorry if I am coming off as ignorant but I am unaware still of how to optimally build my credit.

  18. JL says:

Used the phone number listed above, took a while to find out that the offer is for 80K and it includes annual free night at anniversary, 1st year annual fee waive but no $50 statement credit. Got approved instantly. I hope the representative meant what he said… will find out soon.

  19. Amit says:

Great job with the blog! Had a question – has anyone received the card in the mail yet when applying over the phone for the 80,000 point offer? I was told it would take a few weeks but applied back on Feb. 4th and still have not heard anything so was just curious.

  20. Melinda says:

I did a google search and found the $50 offer with 80,000 points on Chase’s site –

  21. R says:

Just curious. Did any one receive their card after applying over phone?

    • Chris says:

Yes, I did the phone app and got approved for a ridiculous $21K CL and points posted really quick (met min spend in 1 month). I applied for Mariott’s at the same time, both went through… But the Marriott card took a week longer to arrive.

  22. Ámit says:

R – Got no correspondence of any kind in between so was not sure if my application was ever processed, but finally received the card about a month after applying..

  23. galaxylam84 says:

Thank you, I called the number and got approved for the 80K bonus points, the lady said we will receive our card in the mail in the next week to two weeks.
    best regards!

  24. Lola says:

My husband just applied over the phone the rep told him he’ll hear back from Chase via mail in 10 days. This matches the experience of comments from HML and PG earlier in the thread. I’m assuming he didn’t get instant approval because a credit analyst needs to review his application, but maybe that assumption is incorrect. With regards to the 5/24 rule, he has a total of 4 credit cards. That’s it. Three from Chase, one from Amex. He has excellent credit in the low 800s. So I need some advice. Does it make sense to call the reconsideration line and speed things up? I’m the churner in the family, so I’m the impatient one who can’t wait 10 days to find out. Or is it best to just wait for the mail? Thanks!

  25. Kat says:

Thanks for this info – I called yesterday and didn’t have to ask – they said the sign up bonus is 80,000 but no $50 credit. She said to call customer service after I meet the $1000 and ask for the $50. Approved right away and called customer service for expedited card, they said I’d receive it in 2 days at no charge 🙂 woohoo! I was in hurry because I’ve got dental work to do, might as well get a free mini vacation while I’m at it..

  26. Rob says:

Just called in today and received a message stating that they are no longer accepting phone applications for this offer. Bummer.

  27. I got this site from my buddy who informed me regarding this web page and now this time I am visiting this website and reading very informative posts at this time.
