Update 07/25/18: Online upgrades are now possible. Thanks to reader Mark C
Chase launched a new Hyatt card called ‘World of Hyatt‘ and has seemingly discontinued the old Chase Hyatt card, but they won’t be upgrading everybody to the new card automatically. The new card has an annual fee of $95 instead of $75, but comes with some other benefits. We compared the two cards here. If you prefer the new card, you can upgrade and receive a 2,000 point bonus for doing so. Some readers have been asking how to upgrade & Chase has set up a dedicated page for upgrades. You’re supposed to be able to upgrade online, but that feature isn’t currently working (update: it’s now working) so instead you need to call Chase Customer Service on 1-800-436-7941.

F.A.Q’s
Should I upgrade?
That’s a personal decisions and will depend on your unique circumstances. Is it worth paying an extra $20 annual fee for the benefits? You can use our comparison table here to help decide. The answer to the below question will also impact your decision (e.g if you’ve received the bonus 22 months ago it might be better to just wait 2 months then cancel the old card and apply for the new card and get 60,000 points). If you’ve received the card more than 24 months ago I’d just cancel the old card, wait 30 days and then apply for the new card to get the bonus.
Does upgrading reset my 24 month clock?
For those not knowing what this question is about, the new World of Hyatt card states:
The product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of any Hyatt Credit Card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of any Hyatt Credit Card who received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
That language specifically states ‘a new Cardmember bonus’. I wouldn’t consider this a new Cardmember bonus, as it’s an upgrade offer. That being said Chase could easily consider this upgrade bonus as a new Cardmember bonus. Realistically we won’t know for some time.
If I upgrade does it count as a new card for 5/24 purposes?
No, it won’t count as a new card and you’ll keep the account history (opening date) of the old card. This means it won’t affect your 5/24 status.
