Hyatt To Add More Category 8 Properties

In October last year it was announced that Hyatt was adding a new category (category 8) costing 40,000 points per night. Hyatt sold this idea to elites by saying only new properties will fall under the new category 8 pricing and existing properties under Hyatt would still max out at category 7. More Destination Hotels properties are being added to the Hyatt program and five of these new properties will also be category 8 costing 40,000 points per night. The properties are:

  • Vail Residences at Cascade Village (Vail, CO)
  • The Lodge at Spruce Peak (Stowe, VT)
  • Kaanapali Alii (Lahaina, HI)
  • The Lodge at Kukui’ula (Koloa, HI)
  • Wailea Elua Village, Residences (Wailea, HI)

Vail residences has already joined the program, with the other 4 properties to be added on November 12th. I guess Hyatt has kept their promise that only new properties added will cost 40,000 points per night, but realistically it’s only a matter of time until existing properties move to this new higher tier.

The Lodge at Spruce Peak (Stowe, VT). Rooms are only $200-$300 a night. Seems like a horrible use of 40 000 Hyatt points. Booking through chase portal would only cost 20 000 points per night.

What’s the price during peak season? Probably they’re planning on that since there is not supposed to be a separate bucket for award inventory with Hyatt. Base room = Award inventory.

As long as they keep offering Hyatt Places and Hyatt Houses for 5K a night….

I truly think they may keep their word (at least for a few more years.) It might be a bit blind, but my trust in Hyatt is the strongest of all loyalty programs.
