Inbox Dollars Seems to be Coming Through

The Inbox Saga

We’ve been documenting the story of the 5% cashback offer on all eBay purchases via the Inbox Dollars shopping portal. We first posted about it on 9/9/15 and the eBay category was removed on 10/15/15. The good news is that the cashback now appears to be coming through, hopefully it will be that way for everyone soon.

We reached out to them last week and were told that by 10/19/15 we’d see cashback for all purchases made up through 9/11/15. Many of you may not have any purchases made by that time, but I had two purchases by that time as did some others; the test was on…

New Terms

After 10/19/15 passed and no cashback appeared, I reached out again to Inbox and we also tried making a push on Twitter. They replied on Twitter with an interesting link which no one knew about. Basically, they disclaim there that:

  • Not all purchases may be eligible for crediting
  • All orders will be validated and approved prior to credit
  •  InboxDollars credits Members for completing Offers based on information we receive from our Advertisers. Thus, the Advertiser has the final say in whether or not a Member is credited for completing an Offer. InboxDollars makes no guarantee that Members will receive credit for completing an Offer.

Wow, that is some load of disclaimers.

The most interesting part would be if we can figure out when this page was written. Luckily we can:

It was created on 10/13/15, just two days before the eBay offer was removed completely… (HT: @bem236)

Is it coming through?

At that point, I was pretty sure that something is different in their system and either isn’t awarding cashback properly or will just award for certain categories. In fact, I had a post written up about it which was almost posted a few hours ago.

A new development came today when I got an email back from them that they are crediting my account and $18.50 popped up in my Inbox account.

Get_Paid_Cash_for_E-Mail__Surveys__Games__and_More__Join_InboxDollars

The big question remained for me whether this was special treatment they are giving me as a blogger to shut me up  😉 or if the cashback is actually coming through automatically.

Interestingly, I got $18.50 for the shopping and I had only requested 5% of $270 (or $13.50) since that was the amount of my purchases from up until the 9/11/15 cutoff. After reviewing my eBay purchases I realized that there was one other $100 purchase made on 9/9/15 and I must have gone through Inbox for that purchase as well. Success! They were crediting me even for purchases I had not mentioned to them at all. It’s working automatically – Yay!

I asked around to see if anyone else also got cashback for purchases until 9/11 and orensmoneysaver has one contact who also got their cashback from Inbox. On the other hand, one Twitter correspondent told me that he did not get cashback for an 8/27 purchase. Inbox replied that reporting is almost complete, indicating that it’s just a matter of time until it comes through.

Based on the above and some other factors, I’m pretty optimistic that it will come through automatically for everyone. There may, of course, be some purchases which didn’t track properly – as with any shopping portal – and then you’ll have to try your luck with submitting a claim for the cashback via chat.

Let us know if it came through for you.

Caveats

Just a brief reminder of a few caveats we wrote previously:

  • First, there is $3 deducted at the time of payout. More details in the previous post.
  • Second, if you were not active for 10 days they’ll shut down you account. You can easily get it reinstated – cashback intact – for up to 6 months.
  • Lastly, yes, they are slow and it may take some more time until we get paid out for all purchases made up until 10/15/15 when the category was removed. The upside is that once it comes through, you can cash it out right away.

I made a $1.2k purchase October 15th. I’m just waiting a few more days to manually request my cash back. The purchase was split between gift cards and credit card so I’m not sure if they’ll pay out.

I think there should definitely be some heat put on inboxdollars. If they want to hoodwink us then at the very least they need to hung to dry, including reporting to the BBB.

Their information if anyone is curious:

Well, I already changed my details on their website and requested my account closing because I’m not even sure if I trust them with my details anymore considering their shady practices. I went ahead and filed a complaint anyway.

That said, looking at other complaints responses there I wouldn’t expect much, we’ll probably get a harsh response and that’s it. But we’ll see.

I think inboxdollars is totally a scam since they apparently added new terms on eBay purchases.

I contacted them and they sent me a message like this:

“Please note that purchases made with eBay Gift Cards, coupons or e-gift certificates are not applicable for form of payment method and not eligible for crediting.”

This has never been there when eBay shopping portal was still live. I paid with eBay gift card so apparently I cannot get any cashback. I do strongly recommend you should write another article about it to see how many people are in the same situation.

Agree. It’s too late now but I’m pretty sure I won’t see too much of the roughly $100 they owe me…

At least if we can find more victims like us, we can give inboxdollars more pressure

Well, I tried chatting without any hope because it seems to be a shady company and I wasn’t wrong.

After more than a week they finally responded about my ticket and now on top of the disclaimer that was added just before the offer was removed they added a second disclaimer in their email response stating that “Please note that purchases made with eBay Gift Cards, coupons or e-gift certificates are not applicable for form of payment method and not eligible for crediting.”

So they basically invalidated all but one of my transactions with post-offer exclusions. To be honest it’s so infuriating when a company change terms after the fact that I just simply closed my account and plan to move on, worst cashback site I’ve ever used and not worthy of anyone’s time.

Agree that they are not making easy to get the 5% they had advertised. In order to further review, they are requesting the receipts from the sellers showing: Item number & product description purchased, Purchase date, Purchase price, Payment Type (Charge Card, BillPay, PayPal, ProPay, Skrill) AS WELL AS confirmation of shipment receipt emails. The exclusion of eBay Gift cards or e-certificates as form of “acceptable” payments was a shady practice.

This is some shady BS. I am interested to see Chuck’s follow-up post.

I say it’s time to fight fire with fire. I am in the process of requesting the credits via chat. When they ask me to submit receipts, guess I will have to alter them to show I paid with CC instead of ebay GCs,

Aah thank you. Seem like it doesn’t work when you have pop-up blocker enable. Disable and the pop up comes up.

In the upper right corner next to the log out button is a “support” button. Go there and then a little button in the lower right pops up saying “chat with us”. I did this yesterday and will (hopefully) receive a solution tomorrow as per their follow-up email.

I must be missing something. I can’t seem for the life of me find their “live chat”. Can someone point me to it?

Bottom right corner should be a chat now box.

My last purchase through TCB was around 9/11. After that I’ve used IBD for each and every eBay purchase I’ve made until the 5% promo expired. Not a single dollar has found its way to my IBD ledger so far. Do they only investigate/payout after I contact them by live chat? This is ridiculous and now I wish I’d had stuck with TCB. They were only @ 1.1% but at least I never had a missed (eBay) transaction to date.

Yes, I would keep being persistent, and if live chat does not help, ask it to be elevated to a supervisor who will contact you via email. Then keep emailing the supervisor and provide your purchase emails if necessary.
