[Expired] Increased Citi Expedia Credit Card Offers (Up To 70,000 Points) – Last Day

Bonus back to 50k pts

Update 11/27/19: There is now a public link that will work, you’ll still need to log into your account before applying.

Update 11/25/19: Some people are actually able to apply now. Make sure you’re logged into your account, click ‘Expedia Rewards Credit Cards’ at the bottom of the page and the option to apply now should show up. Offer shows as being good until December 2nd, 2019. Hat tip to Wayne H. Can also use this link to search for VIP access hotels.

Update 11/25/19: Extreme Hotel Deals (awesome site) points out that the Expedia+ Voyager card will be offering a 70,000 point bonus on Black Friday.

Keep in mind Citi will usually match a higher bonus if it’s within 90 days of sign up.

Update 11/22/19: Old links stopped working, I’ve updated it with some new links.

The Offers

Direct link to offers: Voyager | No annual fee card

Expedia+ Voyager:

  • $95 annual fee
  • 50,000 Expedia+ points after $2,000 in purchases within 3 months
  • $100 annual statement credit can be used  airline incidentals on qualified airlines, Wi-Fi carriers, or for the Global Entry application fee (calendar year)

Expedia+

  • No annual fee
  • 20,000 Expedia+ points after $1,000 in purchases within 3 months

Our Verdict

Standard offer on the Voyager card is 25,000 points, but we’ve also seen 20,000 points + $100. Looks like points are worth a maximum of 0.7¢ towards hotels/flights (up to 1.4¢ for ‘VIP Hotels’). Keep in mind the 24 month language on these offers. This still works out to be about $350 in Expedia credit and most people should be eligible due to never having one of these cards before. I’ll be adding the Voyager offer to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

  • Any recent experience with what counts as travel credit?
Bought Delta eGC 2 weeks ago and still no credit 🙁

    • Following. I was about to buy a $100 delta but I guess I’ll wait till your statement closes, at that point I’ll trY AA

    • Sorry, false alarm. 2 DPs:
      1) Delta eGC $100 works for travel credit
      2) Travel credit is not credited immediately but only at the statement closing

  • Despite 3 documented calls to customer service telling me otherwise, the year of your 100 dollar credit is not based on the date of your charge but the statement date that the charge hits so today is likely not the last day for many. I got 100 credit in January 2021 for late December 2020 charge but my credit for a southwest purchase in late November or early December 2021 didn’t come through on my next statement as I was told I already used up my 2021 credit. Their customer service is useless. I feel like they owe me a hundred dollars.

  • Any DPs on what’s triggering the statement credit these days? Delta GC didn’t work for me in 11/2020. SW GC did in 2/2021. Both were 2×$50. Trying to use up my 2022 credit and PC before AF hits.

  • Can I buy a 50 SW gift card this month just to test if I’m due another $100 for 2021 ( I had bought $100 AA GC in late December) and if it works buy another $50 GC in April? In other words, do I have to spend the $100 or more at once?
    Thanks

  • I was able to extract much more value out of this 70k bonus than I originally expected. With the 2X VIP redemptions and free upgrades this 70k SUB provided +$1,000 in value. Thanks DOC!

  • I finally got the credit in January for my December gift card purchase. Despite what they said I’m Leary that I still have a credit to use for 2021. How do I test this without breaking the bank? Should I buy a 50 dollar southwest gift card and if I get the credit the following month then buy another 50 dollar gift card? Would that work or do I have to spend the 100 dollars at once? Thanks

  • Triple dip and successful downgrade to the no-fee Expedia card via chat. Had been 32 days since the annual fee posted. The full $95 will be refunded 51 days from now, according to the rep.

Not pleased about the massive VIP devaluation, but I only have minor regrets about using a 5/24 slot for this. $225 cash for the three travel credits + 2 nights at a very nice hotel this fall (fingers crossed) for a $95 annual fee + $66 hotel resort fees.

  • Spent close to an hour on the phone with Citi today. I only used $80 of my travel credit in 2020. Earlier this month, I bought a $100 Delta gift card, but was only reimbursed $20. I spent a good hour on the phone with Citi today to get this figured out and 3 people gave me different answers before a supervisor happily (and very nicely) said they would manually credit me the full $100. One of the representatives said because it was a gift card, they couldn’t me for the full amount so could only reimburse me for a portion (which is ridiculous, because they’re system clearly forgot to reset my benefit). Anyway, just posting this in case others have the same problem!

  • I got billed the AF in December. I did not get a retention offer when I called a couple of weeks ago, so I waited for my statement to close to get the $100 back for my December gift card purchase, I just called to downgrade my card. The rep said that there was no option to do that and still no retention offer either, so I cancelled the card. Surprising, since I’m sure that others here were able to downgrade it.

  • Successful triple dip for me. Called to downgrade account, didn’t have any retention offers. Was told the AF would be refunded within 1-2 billing cycles.

    Dec 2019: Delta $100 GC
    Feb 2020: SW $100 GC
    Jan 2021: UA Travelbank 2*$50

  • Triple dipped by buying six $50 southwest gift cards in December 2019, January 2020 and January 2021. Immediately converted to city Expedia card with no fees as soon as my January 2021 credit posted. Was told that annual fees will be returned by March 1 2021.

  • Triple dip successful, and downgraded the card for a full refund. Gawd, Citi is horrendous.

Nov 2019, applied for card and reimbursed for 2x $50 DL gift cards in CY2019
Sep 2020, purchased 2x $50 DL gift cards, only reimbursed for $56.xx (wtf?)
Nov 2020, purchased 1x $50 UA Travel Bank, reimbursed for $43.xx (shrug, OK, fine)
Dec 2020, $95 annual fee hit
Jan 2021, purchased 2x $50 UA Travel Bank, reimbursed $100
Jan 2021, downgraded card to free version after statement close, AF will refund in 50 days

Overall, I’m glad to be done with this card, I cleared out my points, since the devaluation, but Citi has been horrendous to deal with.

First, they wouldn’t honor the 70k points offer (I applied for the 50k a week before). The killer for me was I purchased plane tickets through Expedia for the 4x points bonus. Expedia charged me $4 “handing fee”, and the airline charged my card $600. I earned 4 points/dollar on the Expedia charge, and 1 point/dollar from the airline. I spent 15 hours trying to argue with off-shore Expedia and Citi support that I purchased the ticket through Expedia, not the airline, with each one pointing at the other to solve it. Only after faxing (!) a copy of the email purchase to Citi, did they credit me the missing 2400 points. For some reason, my partner thinks I take the points game too serious 🙂

TL;DR Citi sucks, triple dip possible, you have 37 days to cancel or change the card after AF hits.

  • Any DP that one can product change and still receive a full annual fee refund even if the magic 37 day grace period has passed? A rep told me that the 37 day limit is only with cancellations not product changes (for which there is no deadline)

  • Citi Expedia Not offer retention offers on this card (2 attempts) and is only allowing product change to the no annual fee Expedia card.

PSA – for those waiting for the 2021 air travel credit, do not product change/cancel before it posts.

  • PSA – To get the 2020 air travel fee credit, your statement containing the incidental charge must close by dec 31, 2020. My mistake is I thought only that the charge must post in 2020 to get 2020 credit. This is not the case as my statement closed on Jan 4 with a December airline charge and now lost out on the $100 credit from 2020.

    • Slaven So you didn’t receive a credit at all? I’d think you’d either receive it for 2020 or 2021 and wouldn’t be able to determine which year it was for.

        • Slaven, how did you know that it was 2021 credit and not 2020. I did the same, bought SW GC on 31st Dec 20 and the credit posted on my statement date 01/07. I am just wondering if I downgrade or cancel as I am still within 37 days of annual fee post date.

    • Urgh. I have called repeatedly and was told that was not the case and even had them document this in my account.

  • I got billed the annual fee last month and called to try and get a retention offer, but the rep did not see one for me. I chose not to do anything for now because I just used the travel credit after the December bill had closed and want to make sure that I get reimbursed. Does anyone know whether I can now use the 2021 credit and get reimbursed for both on my January statement? Given that I’d be buying and selling a gift card at a loss I don’t want to take a chance if I won’t get the refund.

  • Just bought a Southwest card since I had forgotten to use the 2020 credit. My annual fee already got billed, now I need to call Citi and see if they offer me the retention deal that some others have gotten.

  • My AF is due on Jan. 21. If I use up the $100 airline credit in early Jan. but the credit won’t post until the statement closes after Jan. 21, how do I do a triple dip without getting a late fee as I do want to downgrade or ask for retention offer. Thanks!

    • Chicagoan33 Pay the annual fee before it’s due, then downgrade/close the card (or threaten to!) within 37 days of when you were charged the annual fee. If you downgrade or close, they’ll refund your annual fee.

      • Thanks Avi Now the difficult part of finding a Vip hotel (Tokyo whenever borders open) to prebook before Jan. 31st 🙂

      • Avi I’m still confused about this. My previous statement closed in mid-December and next statement closes in mid-January. Are you saying that the annual fee will still be refunded even if I wait until after the current statement ends in January to close it (more than 30 days since AF charged, less than 37)?

          • Avi Chicagoan33 zeer0 Per my chat with a Citi Rep: “You can expect the refund within 1-2 billing cycle after account closed or converted to no annual fee within the given time frame” (given time frame refers to the 37 days)

“You will receive credit to your credit card account. Once you receive the credit you can chat back to us we will be able to refund the credit amount to your bank account or we can issue a check.”

“You will receive credit even if your account is closed”

  • I didn’t receive any points I earned from this card. I earned over 72,000 points and expedia account still shows zero. I have reported this issue to citi and they keep telling me I need to contact expedia. Anyone have the same issue?

  • Is $100 credit based on statement date? My December statement just closed. I opened my card in December 2019. Got $100 credit in December of last year, $100 in January 2020. Do I buy $100 in SW cards now or in Jan 2021? My statement date is the 16th of the month.

  • I just got billed the $95 annual fee and remembered that I never used the incidental credit this year, and my December statement closed. I used it last year right after getting the card but obviously forgot about it in 2020. Really upset with myself for forgetting about it.

So now the question is do I downgrade to the free Expedia card or to a different Citi card like DoubleCash, since I don’t have one of those, and it seems like they just announced new cash back opportunities on that.

  • $10 Southwest e gift card triggered the incidental credit. Posted 10/27. Credited 11/6 when statement closed. Earlier in the year, Award taxes on Delta international flight worked, too.

  • UA Travel Bank works in $50 increments. Bought $50 10/17 and $50 11/08, credited on 11/10 after statement close.

    • Any reason why you didn’t choose $100? I will try in Jan. 2021. $100 works for SW eGC bought in Jan. 2020

  • Received targeted email offer today: Sign up to Earn 5X Expedia Rewards Bonus its on eligible purchases through 01/31/2021.
    Grocery stores
    Drugstores
    Gas Stations
Mass Transit & Commuter Transportation Vendors

  • $100 Delta giftcard purchased using desktop worked to trigger the $100 airline credit once my statement was closed.

  • AA GC Datapoint: $100 E-GC was auto-reimbursed on statement cut date in August 2020, so still going strong.

  • anybody know if there is a way to combine household accounts for expedia. say have 70k points in one account and spouse has 70k points in their account and you want to make a reservation that requires 140k points

  • Got the card and the bonus requirements show reached on the Citi website as of ~4 days ago, but I don’t see the points in my expedia account yet. Any points on how long they take to post? The points from spending during the first statement period have posted, so I know it’s linked to the correct account.

  • I see that my 50,000 points on my citi credit card account but I don’t see them on my expedia account. Is there some sort of delay between the points posting on citi vs the points posting on expedia?

  • Following up on my message below from Nov 26 re: the possibility of triple dip on gift card purchases with my newly acquired Voyager card. Purchased $100 SW e-gift card Dec 9. Statement cut Dec 12. Reimbursed $100 on Dec 13. Purchased AA e-gift card Jan 1. Statement cut Jan 13. Reimbursed $100 on Jan 14. Ideally (for me) I would have bought an AA gift card both times… but as others suggested at that point there was some uncertainty as to whether AA would trigger this specific Citi credit so I didn’t want to waste the first of 3 tries on the triple dip scenario. I’ll try gift card purchase #3 in late December for the statement cutting 1/14/21. I’d be interested in any data pts on Alaska gift cards from anyone else willing to take a chance. Surprised to say this…but there is an outside chance I may actually keep this card beyond year 1 as I’ve had good luck redeeming my sign-up bonus ($980 worth of Expedia pts) for VIP Access hotels for our upcoming summer vacation. After a few stays, I’ll try to calculate the true value of Expedia “Gold” by monitoring whether any of these VIP hotels actually provide the perksthe card promises during stays. Now that I’m a true hotel free agent (bye Marriott) I like the thought of using TopCashBack (6% currently) in conjunction with Expedia hotel bookings with the Voyager card for work travel. I’ve already booked 4 work trips using this method. While it is unlikely, you can always try to present various loyalty cards at check-in to see if you can possibly get hotel points/perks on top of TCB+Expedia. I’m sure Marriott will be a no-go, but I seem to recall from past years that certain IHG/Hyatt/Hilton hotels are a little more lax on allowing the use of your loyalty # upon check-in in conjunction w 3rd party bookings. Good luck!

  • Any happen to have any DP’s on Alaska gift cards yet? If not I’ll be the DP and test out a $50 one.

  • Anyone able to confirm double dip worked on January statement? It totally stands to reason it will if you got the credit on your December statement (which thankfully P1/P2 did), but wanted to confirm before I took the plunge.

  • I received the 70,000 bonus points through Citi and they are visible in my Citi credit card account. On the Expedia side, the points show up in the transfer history buy my points balance is still at zero. Does anyone have experience with this, is there a time frame (like 30 days) where the points are pending? Thanks

Also, all the links from Citi to use the Expedia points sends me to the Expedia site where the points balance is still zero.

  • A word of warning to anybody who applied for the Black Friday 70,000 point promo.

Make sure Citibank is giving you the full 70,000 points vs. the standard 50,000 point offer. I applied during the promo, and have been fighting with Citibank because their system has me down for the standard sign-up bonus.

    Check your account online,

Cursor over “Rewards and Benefits” on the top of the homepage, and you’ll see a drop-down menu of three choices. Click on “Expedia Rewards”.

You should see two pie charts mid-page. The pie chart of the left will say “New Customer Bonus”. Make sure it says “Earn 70,000 Expedia Rewards bonus points after $2,000 in purchases within 3 months of account opening.”…..and not 50,000 points.

    Best of luck to all.

  • what recourse do I have regarding the card’s $100 annual credit? I paid for luggage online for Spirit airlines, but per Citi its coded as a ticket so I cant get bonus. Spirit claims system is automatic and can not be changed.

  • Crap. Didn’t even think to look at this. Is a double dip still possible? I bought $100 in Delta cards today and I’ve seen someone get credit the next day. As long as it posts before Jan 1st will I be able to at least double dip?

    • The charge posting before Jan 1st has nothing to do with double or triple dips. If it posts on your December statement, you’ll get the 2019 credit. If it posts as part of your January statement, it will eat into your 2020 credit. Regardless, you can dip again at the end of 2020. What you will have lost in the latter case is the ability to triple-dip (19, 20, 21).

  • My Dec statement just closed and I forgot to use the airline credit. If I use the airline credit now (which sounds like it would be reimbursed at the end of the new cycle in Jan), does it count toward 2019 or 2020? Thanks!

  • Another data point FWIW: purchased a Delta e-gift card for $100 on my laptop. It has triggered the airline credit when the December 2019 statement closed. Triple-dip, here I come!

  • DP:
Both $50 AA and Southwest e-gift cards purchased Dec. 7 2019 triggered the air credit about 10 days after purchase.

  • Statement just closed and I got credit for both a sub- $100 SWA flight and a $50 gift SWA card.

Had to change my statement closing date to a week later because the card took a long time to arrive.

But since it still closed in Dec 2019, I’m planning on the triple dip, then downgrade/cancel in Jan 2021 depending on what else is out there and how I feel about Citi (or how I think they might feel about me, ya know?).

Doc has reported that co branded Citi cards have 60 day annual fee refund periods, which would contain my Jan 2021 statement date.

So $1050 of Expedia VIP Access hotels and $300 airline credit total from this one.

  • Replacement card is legible! Had a broken chip on the first card they sent, got the replacement this week and it’s thicker/white font that you can actually read.

  • I weirdly received a $85.43 “Airline/Global Entry Fee Credit” on December 11, after a $85.43 Southwest flight ticket purchase on November 25 (after Southwest Travel Credit was applied). I guess anything airline related under $100 they just assume is an airline-related fee?

Now I’m curious if I can still get something else for the remaining $14.57…

  • What a great card! Charged two SW gift card $50 each two days apart both before my first statement closed and $100 credit was posted with first statement as well as $95 membership fee. Hopefully will be able to use credit two more times before next year fees posts

  • I purchased a $100 Delta e-gift card. The travel credit did not post on the first statement.

I opened a chat and the rep said to contact them again if it does not post in the next statement.

What recent DP’s are there for travel credits (preferably gift cards)?

    • You chatted them about your e-gift card purchase? What is wrong with you?! gift cards don’t qualify. If you’re lucky enough to reimbursed be happy, don’t go drawing attention to how you tried to cheat the system unless you want that shutdown by some overachieving employee at Citi. Since you forgot here’s what your credit is usable on “With your Expedia Rewards Voyager Card from Citi you will receive $100 Annual Air Travel Fee Credit each year of card membership for use on airline incidental fees, including qualified airlines for baggage fees, inflight Wi-Fi, or application fees for either the Global Entry or TSA Pre✓® programs.”

  • My statement closed on 12/16. I paid for checked bags for my upcoming jetBlue fights as soon as I received the card on 12/7 (B6 allows you to do this before checking in). I received the $100 statement credit on my December statement as well as being billed the $95 annual fee.

      • Don’t think so. I got mine in time to get my purchase on the December statement (received 12/7 closed 12/16). Sorry it didn’t work out for you.

I’m surprised it took so long for you to get the card.

        • I was surprised as well.. This was the only card that took so long to arrive. I check my mail box pretty much every day. Don’t know if it had anything to do with not being approved instantly online but having to call recon line to get approved.

  • Any DPs on AA cards? Went through thread and it doesn’t appear so. I know Southwest triggers; does it matter if it was desktop vs. mobile? Same question for Delta, does it need to be Desktop like it was for AMEX before their change?

  • Did anyone get successfully matched from 50k to 70k? I had requested and received a letter in mail saying they can’t honor it. Seems they will only do so if I had received a personalized mailer.

    • Nope… and they took 3 weeks to ship card to make sure you couldn’t triple dip credit, I’ll be in and out with this junk gimmick card.

    • I had EXACTLY the same experience, finally confirmed yesterday. Citi explained that they had modified their policy: only if you were directly targeted for a higher offer would they match

  • A DP in case it helps anyone. Per thread below people have either purchased 2 $50 Delta giftcards or one $100 Delta giftcard and gotten the credit. Not my case unfortunately. Now I am stuck with two delta giftcards :-/
Before my statement closed on the 11th I purchased 2 $50 Delta giftcards from Delta.com. They posted to my credit card account on the 10th. The category they posted as is miscellaneous and did not trigger the credit. YMMV. Good luck!

    • I’m not sure if it matters anymore, but did you purchase on a desktop site or on a mobile app/site? At some point, I thought I read they coded differently.

    • Did you buy physical or eGC?

I wanted to buy physical, but after reading this thread, just bought an eGC. We’ll see what it codes as shortly. Still have time if it doesn’t work to buy a SW one. Though I got enough SW credit to use up. At least a GC can use w/o expiration.

Most (All?) people wrote they bought $100 not $50 Delta.

  • anyone find the Citibank “Personalized welcome video” downright creepy? Welcome ______ and it’s spoken out loud. Is Citi doing this for all cards, or is it just a freaky Expedia thing?

  • m confused now. I just received card and next statement is closing on Jan 06. If i buy gc and get credit back in Jan , it will count as 2019 credit as i purchased in 19 or 2020 credit as i received in Jan. Thanks .

    • It will count as 2020. You would have had to purchase and have it post by Dec 6 to have it count for 2019. The good news is that your GC purchase on Dec 7, 2020 will count for 2021, but a triple dip isn’t possible.

  • BTW I don’t think I’ve seen this mentioned but this is a TERRIBLY designed card! The card number is printed in gold on a gold card.

I’m not sure if it’s designed as a security thing, but I cannot read the card number unless I hold it on an angle. Then as if that weren’t bad enough, there’s a rectangle in the middle of the card that the last 4 and a half numbers are on, and it’s even HARDER to read the numbers in that area.

I just paid for baggage for Jetblue flights. How long should it take for the credit to show up once the charge posts?

    • Got mine today and it does not close until 16th. Going to pay for the bags for my B6 flights at the end of the month and January. So it all works out OK, but was unnecessarily stressful.

      • Got mine today and statement closes tomorrow (12/11).

I just purchased $100 Delta eGC and can only hope it posts/is included on DEC 19 statement. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

        • Follow Up: I woke up today to see my statement has posted and I received the Airline Credit! This should be a promising DP for others who receive their cards soon with minimal time before their first statement posts.

The dream of the triple dip is still alive!

          Card Received: 12/10/19

          $100 Delta eGC Purchased: 12/10/19
[Posting Category: Air Travel – Delta]

First Statement Closing Date: 12/11/19 👀

          $100 Airline Credit Posts: 12/12/19
          “Airline/Global Entry Credit. Enjoy!”
[Included as Transaction on 12/11 statement activity] *AF also posted*

          • ah.. I didn’t see this thread earlier. My statement closing today Dec 12. I just purchased $100 eGift card on Dec 12. I am hoping to get this transaction posted on current statement closing on Dec 12 (today).

              • Nope, It didn’t get into the Dec statement even when posted date on transaction is Dec 12. no credit yet too.

              • Yes, WJ, I used the same website on my laptop.

It looks like, since your delta eGC purchase did not post on DEC 19 statement, you will receive airline credit when your JAN 20 statement posts. You can still double dip in JAN 2021 (then close card and get AF refunded) but I do not believe you will be able to triple dip.

              • I had a chat with Rep. Since trnx was dec 12, credit will be given from 2019. I should be able to get another credit for 2020. Tripple dip is possible too. It would avoid though as It could be too much stretch. Btw, I can confirm , Citi refunds a annual fee within 60 days if card is closed within 60 days post 1 year.

  • received the card yesterday, activated and bought SW gift card to see if it can post to the statement which is closing today.

      • the transaction was pending until Dec 7 and after they posted the statement on 8th, the same transaction was posted as on Dec 6th. ridiculous .
I missed the triple dip..will try the double dip and then close this.

  • Is it somehow possible to still get this year’s travel credit if my December statement had already ended before I received my card? Can I move the date of the next statement so that I can still use the credit?

    • just went to the “change due date” section on the Citi site and it says “It may take 1-2 payment cycles for this change to come into effect.” so i would not expect it to work on the current statement cycle. But if your statement closes before you get the card it’s probably worth trying since what have you got to lose.

    • Seems like they blew their budget on overnighting those approval letters and are scraping together funds to buy stamps for mailing the actual cards out.

  • I applied 2 days ago and it’s still pending. If anyone is in my camp we can start a support group, LOL.

  • Auto-approved. Nice 10k credit line. Thanks, Doc!
Experian pulled. 749 score. lol/24 and over 20+ inquires.

  • Does Citi actually still match? I applied and was approved for the card early November. When this offer became public, I live chatted with an agent to ask to be matched to the 70K offer. The agent said they do not match to public offers.

Any data points of people being matched to the 70K offer?

    • Keep getting excuses that they won’t match me unless I show I was targeted, pressed them to tell me they are denying public match and wouldn’t say either way.

      • Getting the same excuses. I’m super disappointed with Citi. They customer service blows. Hopefully AMEX won’t ever kick me out.

        • I Contacted citi via their Chat function and was told that they would send me a letter in 10 to 12 business days confirming the match of 70000 points. Received the letter today stating they would not match the offer Since I did not show I was targeted. Just another DP for you all

  • approved after 2 day delay. Stingy with credit line given. Have 2 Citi cards with low limits, less than 1/3 of income.

Not sure if I’ll be able to 2x drip (Let alone 3x dip). Got approval letter overnighted…but no card. Silly.

    Maybe at 6/24 or so.

  • 1. Bought $100 AA gift card on Nov.14 – still no credit back.
    2. Two chats and one phone call to supervisor – no way to match my one month old 50K application to the current 70K offer

        • Did you ever get the credit for this? From what others are saying, it would happen when your statement posts (the date is on the account summary home page just under the current balance/credit line amounts)

          • I’m also trying it. Transactions posted 12/10, statement closes 12/24, payment due 1/21. It was categorized as AMERICAN Air Travel too. 2x$50 GCs

          • I received a statement credit for 2x$50 AA giftcards posted on the close date purchased from the AA website. 🙂

  • Insta-denied w/o an apparent credit pull (no alerts from CreditSesame or CreditKarma). Checked my spreadsheet and I’m not 2/65. Not sure why I was declined.

  • Been approved for the last 6 or so Citi AA personals. Insta-denied for this one. So far I haven’t seen a single DP of successful recon?

  • rejected right away. called in and was told that she couldn’t see the specific reasons. just have to wait till the letter comes in

  • auto denied.
Just applied one AA on Sept 23rd and another aa one Nov 11st,
call the reconsider, no way to fight

  • Currently 3/24 finishing up CIP2 is this worth using a slot? Was gunna hit some more business cards soon but this seems like a good deal

    • I know it’s painful to use up a slot on a card that you could get approved for at LOL/24, but unless you have a specific set of cards this would prevent you from getting, go for it.

    • I personally wouldn’t let this take up a slot while below 5/24 assuming you have other Chase personal cards you’re eyeing. I’d value any number of Chase Sapphires/Hyatt/United/Marriott/IHG above this offer (not to mention keep working Chase Biz cards, too)

      • Hi I’m also lol/24 and want to apply for this card before Dec. 2 (I also currently have Citi Premier card). I have Amex cards should I combine this app with Amex Biz Gold 75kMR & Amex Green 45kMR apps? Or since I have Amex cards they will just do a soft pull since they already have my credit report on file so it’s ok to wait until next year to apply for the Amex charge cards & get the Expedia now? Thanks for your help!

        • Went ahead and applied and auto approved. Looking forward to double dipping the credit as an extra perk. I hit some business cards next and I will be at 3/24 in April 2020 so not a huge hit.

  • I just applied and I was approved! I have no idea how many cards I have, but just this year alone, I have probably some 10 new cards!

I was given the card #, CID, month/year, etc. All for print.

This is a sweet deal, especially for the ‘VIP’ hotels!!

    Thank u DoC!!!

    • How did you get all that info? By creating a new login after you were approved? I foolishly did not do that because I expected it to show up on my existing login, and it did not.

    • True, all information is on the last page as you proceed by selecting ‘continue’. Although, it says I can use the provided information to make purchases like a u can with a credit card. I was not limited to use on Expedia only. Indicates the ability to purchase up to $2,500.

I am interested to see if I can get Delta and Southwest $50 e-gift cards?

      Happy free hotel stays!

  • Well, this is interesting. I just got a notice from UPS of an overnight package that was shipped to me by Citicorp (from Sioux Falls, SD, where credit cards come from), arriving Friday. I had done a chat session on the website asking if I could get the card any faster and was told no. I’m assuming it’s going to be the card since I was not expecting anything else.

    • Update — saw another post here from someone who got an overnight UPS from Citi only to find that it was the letter saying he had been approved for the card — but no card!

        • Did you create an online account after getting approved? I did not since I mistakenly thought it would show up on my existing Citi account and there was no way to login to that account. Someone in this discussion claimed to have gotten the card # immediately. In theory if we had online access we could generate a virtual account number. But not that it matters at this point since I do not have the card on my login.

          • No, I didn’t make an account after I got approved. Tbh, I didn’t have the option to do so. The mailer they sent was just the last 4 digits of my card which is useless to create an account. Now, I just have to wait for it to come in the mail but not sure if that will be to late to make a purchase to double dip the $100 travel incidental credit. I will try to chat with them when I make my account to match me the 70K points. My only issue with that is that the offer expires on 12/2 and I doubt I’ll have my card by then.

  • Applied and got “A system error has caused a delay in processing your application.” Anybody know what I should do from here?

  • Applied. Pending. Waited ~18hrs before calling for reconsideration. They said they have all the info they need, just very backed up with the workload.

I imagine just about every disgruntled Amex customer is hitting up Citi for this card/offer. lol

I had a clawback, but it’s the potential for a shutdown that has me shifting all of my spend elsewhere. Not gonna go “all in” with my ad spend & gas for deliveries during the busy holiday season attempting to earn 4x on my Gold biz card…just to see all the rewards disappear tomorrow. Can’t do business in a big way with a company that is involved with so much uncertainty. Chase, Cap1 , Citi, and Barclay should rejoice — Amex’s loss has been their gain.

Happy holidays to everyone. Appreciate the data points about the airline credit on the Expedia card. Cheers.

  • Auto Denied. Called recon and was told bc of too many recent inquiries. No way to fight this…talked to three agents and all of them said the same thing.

  • Checked a lot of different ticket prices on Expedia and everything looks like 7-15% more expensive than on the other sites like skyscanner. What is the reason to get this card? good hotel deals?

    • those ultracheap prices could be / are consolidators who have lots of restrictions on air tickets…..recently did a check there, one outfit had $20 cheaper vs $200 direct…but it had more issues. Lots of complaints against these cos.

    • Had the same question. Looks like redeeming using VIP hotels can get you close to 1,000 in value which makes it a good enough card to apply for.

  • As always, your the man DoC!!

I am going to wait closer to the beginning of December but before Dec 2.

    Let’s c if I get approved bc I am also lol/24?

    • I assume there is a reason you’re waiting, but the longer you wait, you lessen the chance of being able to use the 2019 $100 credit before your statement closes.

  • Was approved for the 50K offer in the past month. I Chatted with Citi about getting the 70K offer matched and they said it can be done and should be processed in 3-4 days

    • For reference, here’s was the conversation (in case it helps anyone else):

Me – “Hello, I recently applied and was approved for the Expedia Rewards Voyager credit card that had a sign up bonus of 50,000 points after $2000 worth of spending. I noticed that the credit card is now offering a bonus of 70,000 points after $2000 worth of spend. Is it possible for me to get this new offer instead of the one I applied for?”

Agent – “I will definitely go ahead and submit a bonus match request under your account.”

      [insert pleasantries here]

Agent – “I have successfully submitted a request to match the bonus offer.

I request your patience, our concerned team will update you the status within 3-5 business days.”

      • I got this reply ” I have done that for you now our marketing team will look into and they will help you with the best which they have for you.

You can get back with them after 1 billing cycle as I have disputed the offer”

      • Andrew I was told to send an email to [email protected] requesting a bonus match. I have been receiving a lot of mixed-up info. Some agents say they can’t match, others tell me to call the number on the back of the card or send them a letter, and this one told me to email them.

  • Chat with Citi and they said it takes up to 7 business days for approval and the offer ends on 12/02, any ideas?

  • Does the application page not show the bonus amount for you all? I clicked over from the Expedia 70,000 offer but it makes me nervous it doesn’t show the bonus amount on the actual application page.

    • I have a comment on this buried somewhere above. I did not see the 70K offer on the application page either. I got a “pending, please call” message. When I called in, I was able to confirm that the 70K offer was on my account, despite it not showing on the application page.

    • When you login after registering the card, if you go to Rewards and benefits on the main menu it will show the signup bonus. I have until 3/10/20 to make the required purchases.

  • LOL/24, approved, but it is my first Citi card ever. Wondering what my chances are at a triple-dip with the $100 credit (applied today)?

    Pulled Experian in CA.

    • Excellent question… I had just assumed the bonus was per cardmember year, but I read the Voyager Card’s T&C and it clearly says annual.

“You will receive up to $100 in statement credits per calendar year (January through December billing statements) towards travel incidentals including airline incidental fees on 10 qualifying airlines and 2 wireless hotspot providers and application fees for either the Global Entry or TSA Pre✓® programs. The statement credit can only be used toward purchases of $100 or less and may be used on multiple purchases until your full $100 benefit has been met.”

Yeah, so that is great! I’m becoming more conservative with my cancellations and prefer to downgrade to no (or low) annual fee card versions to stay off theses companies’ radar. So now I will likely try the triple dip too – the double is really doable and would have never occurred to me without this post.

Can’t remember the rules for downgrades/PC and annual fee rebates for Citi. I love the AMEX option to downgrade and get a prorated annual fee after receiving the yearly goodies.

  • Well, shoot… I was patiently waiting until the end of December to go under 5/24 to get a chase UA card. But 70k-> $1k at VIP Access hotels is a great bonus and significantly higher than usual (I don’t waste hard pulls on less than $500). So I went for it (and took screenshot of the offer). Approved instantly. UA, you’ll have to wait until May! Also, time to find a couple of business cards bonuses for spring spend.

    • Same here…I’m actually under 5/24 as well, wasn’t able to qualify for Chase cards for a while due to income I guess. Just got CSP two weeks ago (and now fee is goin up for CSR) Going to 2/24 in a week, one of the two being the amtrak card. Feel like I’m wasting my slots but this seems so much more valuable. I’ll give it a ponder…

        • Went for it and auto-approved…speaking of autos, potentially gonna use it for these. Don’t really go for fancy hotels but this could be a nice addition to the mix besides UR points (that I have just been cashing in for misc travel stuff- have more miles than I need currently). Same booking anyways

  • I got this when chatting to ask for match: “Oh! I understand that but unfortunately there is no option to match the offer once it is signed up otherwise I would have helped you right away. I hope you would understand”

  • Just applied and got denied, called in, was told that I had too many inquires recently. They pulled TU and I had 7 inquires on that.

    • Interesting, mine was pulled from Experian. No indication of a pull from TU (which is good since my credit score there is 50 points lower than it is at Experian and Equifax).

    • I called number on the back of the citi credit card and so far have talked with three representatives including a supervisor on the phone. None of them would like to match the offer. All of them worked in Arizona, so be aware of Citi Arizona

      • Try chat – Here’s what I got: I have successfully request for the 70000 bonus points matchup and you will receive a confirmation letter within 7-10 business days

        • Kelly, when did you apply? I applied almost a month ago and am getting nowhere! First chat said no, second chat said call, I called and they said no again – only for new applications.

          • I applied 10/24. I just mentioned that I noticed there was an increased offer for 70k and would it be possible to match that since I was still in the 3 month window. No questions asked – the rep just thanked me for being a citi cardmember and done. I haven’t hit the spend on it yet though. I don’t know if that makes a difference?…

            • Thanks – tried again – and got this!!!!
We value you as a Citigold Customer. We appreciate that you choose Citi for more of your financial needs.

I have successfully submitted a bonus match request under your account. I request your patience, our concerned team will update you the status within 3-5 business days.

      • Jesson, can you post the customer service phone number on the back of the Voyager card? I just got approved and want to call them to see if they can expedite the card for me. Thank you.

        • hi, David. i didnt receive the card yet but i do have the last 4 digits of the card in the aporoval email. just.call the phone number on any citibank card and it will direct to the expedia one when you put your last 4 digits.

  • So it seems like you can now prepay baggage fees on Jetblue. I will be flying them on 12/31 and then returning in January so I’ll pay for my checked bags as soon as I get this card and hope that they haven’t done something stupid like giving me a 12/1 statement close date.

    • To anyone who can’t find this with the link, you first need to be logged in and enrolled in Expedia Rewards. Then when you do a search, under Sort By, a new More menu will appear. Under More you can pick VIP Access to show only those hotels.

Also, the numbers shown at the link may be out of date. For example, the link says Montreal has 18 VIP Access hotels, but the results show 69.

  • Applied and approved for p2. I am waiting for cap 1 venture .Expedia after login shows 70k link. After approval , I didn’t get card #though. If I wait till it comes in mail , my statement may not end this year and I will loose travel credit. Any workarounds? .TIA.

  • A couple of months ago it seemed like churning was dead for me. I didn’t have any mailers. Was getting Amex pop-ups. Then Amex pop-ups went away. Got more AA emailers. Chase links show up and now this. How quickly the tide has changed.

My vacations are going to be grand indeed for the foreseeable future.

    Thanks for posting this.

    • exactly. I was in the same position as you, things are looking up. instant approval. haven’t applied for a citi card recently, even though i’m at lol/24 overall.

  • Dang! That’s a great offer to score non-chain hotels. I’m assuming you can redeem them on rental cars, tours, etc. as well? Hope to apply in a few days. Us lol/24 guys that have been around for a decade need new toys.

  • I did some research this AM on Reddit and Flyertalk with no success…. so I’ll ask my question here as the DoC community tends to be sharp on these types of questions. With respect to buying GC’s to trigger the Voyager+ incidental credit, it would appear from comments here that $50 SW, $100 SW, and $100 Delta are A-OK… at least for those who here have tried. For SW and Delta, I assume these are electronic gift cards directly from the SW and Delta sites?? I have never purchased either GC, so I’m a bit green on this issue. I know sometimes it matters whether you buy the electronic vs. the physical GC’s…so pls let us know if that is relevant. Lastly, has anyone attempted an AA gift card to trigger the Voyager+ credit?? If no one has, I am happy to test it and report back for the good of the community as my card arrives later today. Side note, I will be attempting to chat w Citi to get a match on the 70K offer…can’t believe I got in a few days earlier at 50K. Will report back w details if I am successful.

    • Two $50 gift card datapoint on Flyertalk, but it was 5 years ago.
Can you test a $100 AA gift card?

Edit: On a side note, it may be better to go with a safe option. The credit won’t be posted until the statement closing. If you fail, you’ll lose out on the $100 credit.

    • I also wonder, say if we buy the GC today or tomorrow and it works but posts in the January statement? Then we used up our 2020 incidental credit and not double dipping. I would much rather use it for baggage fees. Will you be calling or chatting with them for the 70k?

      • Only way that something you buy today posts in a January statement is if your closing date is 12/1 and it doesn’t post in a timely manner due to the holiday. But I would think that is very unlikely. All of my Citi cards have closing dates in the latter half of the month. Not sure if it’s a coincidence or not.

    • I got the card in October for 50k. Purchased 2 $50 southwest cards (e-cards) direct from the southwest site and that triggered the credit. Also, chatted online today to request 70k match and it was approved with a promise of a snail mail letter to arrive confirming the 70k within 7-10 business days. Hope that helps.

    • Following up again for the people below who have weighed in on my post from 11/26…First off, the overnight UPS packet that arrived from Citi yesterday was not my Voyager card!…it was a just letter telling me I was approved and my card will be arriving via snail mail soon!!??. Strange to waste money to basically overnight me the same approval verbiage that I rec’d via email immediately after replying?? I’ll have to wait a little longer for me to test a $50 AA gift card. With respect to matching the 70K sign up bonus, chat was not at all helpful for me yesterday so I called the # on the back of my Prestige card to discuss the match to 70K on my new Voyager card. The first rep was not at all helpful… so I waited several hours & called back & got a very friendly rep in Citi’s FL office. I gave him the URL of the publicly available 70K offer. He was willing to take the time to navigate to the offer so he could see that a 70K sign up bonus exists. Like others here, he promised to notate my acct to get it bumped to 70K and I’d receive (yet another) letter via snail mail confirming that I was matched up to 70K. I took his name and location of his office. If nothing else, I feel I have enough notations on my acct now to eventually get the incremental 20K Expedia points manually posted if it came to that.

      • Ugh, that is disappointing! I got excited when I got notified that an overnight UPS package was coming from Citi! Idiots!

      • That 6 month rule isn’t a hard rule. It has never stopped me. And I have 7 opened Citi AA cards in the last 12 months along with a ton of other cards.

        • Think I need to sign up for some AA family pet accounts to get some targeted mailers – AA partner awards can present some amazing values with so sweet spots for lie flat biz.

  • Jumping in the lol/24 train. Created new Expedia account, found the offer in the Expedia.com account after logging in, it mentioned 70k, hit apply. In the Citi application page I didn’t see any mention of the points offer (like AMEX does), so it made me a bit nervous. I still pulled the trigger, instant approval, no card numbers show.
Thanks for posting this offer, DoC!

    • I did not see the 70K offer on the application page, after clicking on the link. I got a “pending, please call” message. When I called in (had to move around some credit line but was approved immediately), I was able to confirm that the 70K offer was on my account, despite it not showing on my application page.

  • I called Citi to match the promotion. She couldn’t guarantee they will be able to match.

TIP: To save your time, ask to transfer you to an American specialist!!!!!!

  • Hey Doc,
Does the 90 days matching rule apply if I open this card after the 70k offer ends? I am stuck with 65 days rule.

  • Woo hoo! Just got approved. Not sure what/24 I’m at but I have not applied for a new Citi card in forever, just been doing conversions. I think I’ll get my wife Global Entry with the $100 credit since I already have it but she does not. Only problem is that I need the card # to sign up for that and don’t see the card on my Citi login, Does anyone know if Citi will ship me the card overnight for free if I call and ask?

      • Thanks. I’ll just have to hope that I have a late enough statement closing date to be able to use the 2019 credit once the card shows up.

      • FWIW (and I also posted this separately but noticed your reply), I just got a shipping notice from UPS. Apparently Citicorp sent me an overnight package from Sioux Falls, SD, which is where credit cards come from. So it seems like I’m getting the card on Friday.

I had done a chat asking if I could get it expedited and was told that they could not, so I’m not sure how I got lucky.

        • Update — saw another post here from someone who got an overnight UPS from Citi only to find that it was the letter saying he had been approved for the card — but no card!

  • I was having trouble finding the link. Saw this in a reddit thread from user ar0049, and it worked…

I think you need to go to your account , fill up some details and click on “Join Expedia reward” button. Had the same issue and once I did that, it takes me to the application page.

    Was approved.

  • I logged in my Expedia account, clicked ‘Expedia Rewards Credit Cards’ at bottom of page and got a 70k point offer after $2k spend. Expires 12/2. Applied and approved.

  • Just signed up 2 days ago, hopefully can get the 70k match. It’s funny because I had sworn I saw a 70k offer before the 50k offer was posted here, but then I couldn’t find it when I was googling so I Thought I was wrong and took the 50k offer. Hopefully Citi will match to 70k.

  • Can someone confirm if i can use Expedia points for Tourist things like the London pass? Prices are more compared to other sites but if Expedia points can be used, I would like to apply.

  • They’re nuts with this offer. Have to wonder if a deval is on the horizon.

Anyone have luck matching to 70k?

    • I just did chat and asked for a match – initially signed up in October. Here was the response: I have successfully request for the 70000 bonus points matchup and you will receive a confirmation letter within 7-10 business days

  • Oregon HP
    Citi Biz cards – EQU
    Citi Per cards – EXP

EXPEDIA card is MC – so easy to meet MSR with Plastic for Mortgage -or Auto Loan/lease payment

  • Airline incidental fees: Airline incidental fees: must be separate charges from airline ticket charges and include purchases such as checked bags, in-flight entertainment or refreshments, in-flight Wi-Fi, or other qualifying purchases that meet the eligibility requirements. Qualified airlines include: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, and Virgin America Airlines. Qualified wireless hotspot providers include: Boingo Wireless and Gogo Inflight Internet.

    • Oops, I was wrong. “Sign in and search for hotels, rental cars, things to do, packages or flights.*You need enough points to cover the full cost of your eligible flight, including taxes and fees.”

  • App’d today at 7/24! Did not receive immediate virtual card # as others have reported in comments (see Matt 10/22). Looking fwd to a potential triple dip on the incidental credit w a GC purchase or possibly a cheap JetBlue fare purchase….though I may keep the card past year 1 if I find I can redeem at the 1.4 cent level (VIP+) for hotels I care about. This is a great card for me personally with the upcoming expiration (??) of the hotels.com/Venture deal at the end of Jan 2020! DoC always giving us relevant articles with the best content, contributors, and comments!

    • LoL. I got approved November 27th. I was all excited to get a next day UPS package from Citi today. When I opened it up, it was just the same Account Approval notice I got by email two days ago. It has the last 4 digits of the account number but not the full account number. The letter says I should get the card within 7 to 10 days. Thanks for the next day package, Citi!

  • Applied and denied. Called the reconsideration line and lady said for this card u need to wait 60 days from ur last approved citi card.

    • Expedia points are 140 per dollar of credit, so 70k points=500 dollars of credit. I would not subtract the 95 annual fee because you can recoup that cost with the airlines credit of 100/calendar year.

  • Whoever designed this card should be banished. Every piece of information you *actually* need from it, like… the card number and expiration date, is virtually impossible to read unless you tilt it the correct way in the light.

    • I doubt it. I bought a $100 AS GC and the posted category is “Services – Business Services, Not Elsewhere Classed”. However, tickets post as “Air Travel – Alaska”. Others here have reported success with GC on other carriers posted as “Air Travel – XX”.

  • Getting the card around now (mid-Nov) is the optimal time to triple dip $100 credits. First $100 has to be before Dec statement. Second $100 anytime between Dec 2019-2020 statement. Third $100 between Dec 2020-Jan 2021 statement. Assuming 2nd AF posts Dec statement, you have 37 days to cancel/product change, so that leaves a couple days to do that after third $100 credit posts on Jan 2021 statement.

  • Note that the statement credit is per calendar year, so I would apply for this soon to double dip. That credit also more than covers the AF, so there should be no issue keeping this longterm and worrying about the 24-month rule. The VIP Access hotels include a nice selection of affordable places, not just expensive ones, so I think this bonus is a great deal.

  • Can’t apply as well, white screen on login. Tried firefox, chrome, Internet explorer with all ad-blocking turned off.

    • Try making sure you’re “enrolled” in your “My Account” page to Expedia rewards or whatever their loyalty program is called. That was the issue that wasn’t allowing my application to go through.

    • Im not sure what the exact steps were, but I had the same problem, then went into my Expedia account and filled in my personal information (address and such) and then also pressed the “Join Expedia Reward” button. Then it started working. So you might try some of that.

  • If you redeem your points for VIP Access hotels, your points are worth double (1.4 cents each) which is how I redeem mine. It’s a good option when you’re traveling somewhere that doesn’t have your preferred chain hotel.

    • Greg, mind expanding a bit on your hotel redemptions? Stateside or overseas? High-end or budget? Do the big brands work or only smaller, boutique hotels? Thinking about going for this card solely for hotel redemptions but can’t find much info out there. Thank you!

      • The VIP Access hotels are generally 4 and 5 star boutique hotels, so they’re usually fairly nice. I’ve actually noticed that there is sometimes some crossover with the big chain brands. For example, a hotel will be a part of the Marriott Autograph Collection and also Expedia VIP Access. In that type of scenario, I’d book direct with Marriott because I value Marriott points and benefits more. Recently I was in Abu Dhabi and redeemed all my Expedia points at the Rosewood, which is a very nice luxury hotel in the VIP Access program. Since Rosewood doesn’t have a loyalty program (at least that I know of) it was a great use of points.

        • Can you confirm that every VIP hotel you’ve tried to book is redeemable at 1.4 cpp? I’ve seen some language defines that amount as available at “thousands of our VIP hotels” but doesn’t clearly denote that it is all of them.

          • In my experience it’s always hardcoded to show 1.4 cpp when you choose to apply your points to a VIP hotel.

            • Thanks very much, Greg. I picked up the card at 70k points for myself and P2. Will put the points to good use!
