I opened a checking account (and required savings account) with DCU and Equifax reported a hard credit pull.

NOOOOO!!!

Richard N
Richard N

DCU just raised their interest rate to 6.17% BTW. I did not get a hard pull on any of my 3 credit bureaus when I joined a few months ago.

Thanks! I just joined and also got a soft pull.

This thread seems to suggest there is no hard credit inquiry involved, only a soft pull on Equifax as well as a “pull” on ChexSystems. Others are frozen FWIW.

https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Personal-Finance/DCU-Free-Checking-no-hard-credit-pull-amp-free-EQ-mortgage-FICO/td-p/5405688/highlight/false

They also have a referral program – $20 for the person who joins, $10 for the referrer. You can meet terms by joining and doing 5 P2P payments. They take up to ?$250 in credit card funding. Also free EQ mortgage FICO monthly.

Doc, I don’t want to violate the rules but looking for a DCU referral. Are codes only available on certain posts? Thanks for your help

xpiredsodapop Thanks! I indicated your referral code and opened the Savings account and then I noticed I also needed to open a Checking account, so I went back and did that. Hope I didn’t mess up the referral because I didn’t see a place to enter the code on the checking opening (only saw it during the savings opening). Received instant approval and was able to fund each account with $250 each on a Credit Card. Waiting for pin to be mailed so I can set up online banking and complete the requirements. There isn’t any other way to see the account numbers, right? I have to wait for PIN before I can log in?

PaulineTheBean I was applying and recahed till the credit card funding page but I did not see any place to eneter code. I am just opening saving. Can you let me know at what stage does the option to enter code will be seen?

vc
vc

funny. i was looking through my portal the other day and noticed that they have a referrals section where you can enter a code if you forgot to do it at sign-up.

SA
SA

vc But where exactly is the option while applying?

Pauline the Bean
Pauline the Bean

First page: Open a New DCU account
Next Page: Select Your Accounts
Third Page: Your Information Page: Applicant information, Identification Information, Contact Information
So it looks like it is on the third page SA

Pauline the Bean
Pauline the Bean

It’s on the page where it says Contact Information. You need to use the same email where the referral was sent. Then, the next line says: If a friend or family member invited you to join DCU with an email or coupon that contains an 8-digit Referral Code, please enter that number here:

If you miss that area, there is another place to enter it within the interface after logging in. SA

I saved most of the application to my computer, so I can look some more if needed . . ?

xpiredsodapop To satisfy the 5 balance transfers, can I transfer money between the checking and savings? Does this count for the balance transfer requirement or does the money need to go to an external account? Can you clarify?

I would love a referral, please. Samantha.Hales.92 at gmail dot com. Do I have to open the checking first, then wait for the referral, then open the savings? I’ve been reading conflicting information…

Added my email so hopefully I will get a notification when you respond.

Hi! I sent you a referral. When you get the referral email, open an account using the same email as was used during the referral. I opened both a savings and then the checking. Not sure if you have to or not. I received the bonus one day after I made 5 bill pays, so it’s quick!

Applied yesterday for the high-interest savings account. Was charged for my initial deposit + the $10 membership fee to the org I chose. Got the “we’ll contact you in two business days” message. Logged in to check my application status this morning and it shows that I was denied. Only reason I can think of is Chex sensitivity. I wonder how long it’ll take them to send my money back.

raekwon
raekwon

Update: the incredibly unhelpful letter I just got in the mail from them said “the methods that we routinely use for remote validation of the information you have provided with your application have failed to provide us with the required level of positive authentication.”

Who knows exactly what that means? Maybe I’ll try again after they send me my attempted initial deposit back.

pauline, can you post the code here? or, does this site have a pm system? i prefer not to post my email publicly.

007
007

vc I’m not Pauline but the system requires an email, first name, and last name to make a referral. I would make a new gmail account to use just for communicating and post it here. Then you can post it here, and either Pauline or I can email you asking for your real email, first name, and last name to refer you. Thanks!

007
007

BTW, in case it is easier for you, and you still need a referral, just send me your email address, first name, and last name to dcu4you a t yahoo dot com and I’ll send you a referral. Or email Pauline as below also looks like pauline the bean at yahoo dot com. Thanks!

Pauline the Bean
Pauline the Bean

There isn’t a pm system, nor is there a code to post. The referral is done within the DCU interface. I have posted my email, and here it is again. pauline the bean @ yahoo . com

VC, send me an email and I can privately assist you without you having to post your email address in the comments section.

Just email me your first name, last name, and the email address you’ll be using to signup for the account. (The promo code is locked to the email address apparently. I enter your details into DCU’s referral system and then DCU emails you the promo code.)

My email address is:

uyl0v at appmail dot top

(Incidentally, that above email address I just gave you is a “Temp Mail” email address. It’s helpful for public discussions like this. You can create a temporary email address at the click of a button, use it, and then create a new email address also at the click of a button. Super convenient.)

SA

If anyone needs a referral then pease feel free to email me at saroraji80 at gmail dot com.
TIA!

Steve

Note that DCU can automatically make you a member of one of those organizations as part of the DCU account application; it has a pulldown menu where you can select which one you want to join (I did the $10 Reach Out for Schools), and it subtracts the $10 from your opening deposit. So, if you’re funding $250 from credit card, you actually deposit $240 into the savings account, and $10 goes to joining the organization.

I posted various other info, including how to contact me if you want a referral for $20 bonus, in a comment on the other DCU post: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/digital-federal-credit-union-dcu-6-17-apy-on-balances-up-to-1000-primary-savings-account/#comment-850150
