Last Chance To Book Marriott/SPG Hotels Under The Old Program – Unified Program Live Tomorrow

Tomorrow Marriott/SPG will become a unified program and as part of that change there will be a new award chart and pricing. The majority of properties will be getting cheaper (at least for now before another award chart goes into effect in 2019), but some properties will be going up in price. Breakdown is as follows:

  • 52% of properties will move to a lower redemption rate
  • 31%  of properties will move to a higher redemption rate
  • 17% of properties will be priced the same

I’d recommend having a look at your travel plans and booking any properties that will be increasing in price, although at this stage you’ve left things to the final minute. I’d also be ready to book any properties you want under the new program immediately, especially those that will be category 8 in 2019 as I suspect availability there will disappear quickly.

Little confused here, I have the SPG business card, Amex Platinum, and Ritz Visa, but after combining my accounts via the SPG portal it says my status is Platinum Elite. I thought that I’d still only have ‘Gold’ which has been worsened?

I don’t see a unified program. My Marriott and SPG points are still in separate accounts and logins. They’re not combined and I have no idea how to combine them. One account points expires in six months. The other account expires in 21 months.

I was finally able to merge our accounts. I can no longer log in after I merged. Before that I could only do it in the app.

We’ve done Disney every other year for the last 6 years. Good thing this year almost depleted my points. What was once an 10,000 SPG point/night (8,000 after 4/5) is now 50,000 Marriott points for both the Swan and Dolphin.

Darn it. It’s not live yet. What time does the program go live and I see combined points and stays.

So many articles…… I still have no clue what to do. Marriott messed this up or played it brilliantly depending on your perspective.

The property I’m planning to use my 7 night certificate dropped to cat 4 from cat 6. Should I upgrade my cat1-5 certificate or my certificate will work after the change? I’m kinda confused.

You should have attached the certificate by now if your Nights and Travel Pkg fell into that category.

The spg site that catalogued all the hotels category changes seem to be down. Is there a reference I can check today for a specific hotel, if it will decrease or increase tomorrow?
