Marriott Closes Marriott Insiders Platform, Replaces It With A Facebook Group

Marriott has announced that it’s shutting down it’s Marriott Insiders forum effect April 3rd and will be replacing it with a Facebook group. Marriott uses the insiders program to get feedback from loyalty members. Given the direction of Marriott I’m not sure how often that feedback is actually listened to. Existing content will be available until July 1st, 2020 after that time it will be removed.

I think I finally get it – Marriott is trying to replacing customers with likes. Brilliant.

Does Marriott know that no one under the age of 20 uses FB anymore?

It may not seem relevant now but it will be in a few years.

Not too many people under 20 get hotel rooms either.

To be fair, not that many people over the age 20 use Facebook any more either.

But since Marriott and FB are both declining brands, maybe they’re a good match. Facebook Groups is like the new Yahoo Groups.

Frankly that’s bogus. As part of a FB group, they’ll have way more/easier access to personal details than just their Insider platform. Another (insidious) way to collect more info than they need. And it’s not like they know how to keep their information secure.

I don’t know about others but there is minimal personal information on my FB. I will never understand how people put their addresses and phone numbers on their profiles (and don’t know how to privatize it) and then check in places everywhere they go.
