Marriott Limiting You To 2,000 Points Through #MRpoints Each Year?

Gary from View from the Wing received this response from Marriott:

  • It turns out there was a late surge in participants during Week 2 of the campaign that caused a temporary glitch when some errant code came up against the volume limits that Twitter has in place. Within 24 hours all was fixed and the impacted members received a batch of points. We are not expecting this to happen again

Marriott allows users to earn points from completing social media actions, one of the easiest ways to get points is to tweet out something with #MembersGetIt #RewardsPoints #FindYourRoute #MRpoints in it. You can get 50 points every day by doing this (automation no longer seems to work). Recently Marriott has sent out an e-mail stating:

Apologies — we weren’t able to award points for your recent post. Here are the most common reasons why this might have happened:

  • Your Marriott Rewards account is configured to earn miles instead of points. Please change this in your Marriott Rewards account settings.
  • You have reached the annual maximum of 2,000 points earned through #MRpoints. You can earn points through #MRpoints again starting next year.
  • Your Marriott Rewards account may no longer be active. Please contact Marriott Rewards Customer Care to resolve the issue.

I don’t see anything in the fine print that limits users to 2,000 points annually, but it seems that Marriott is enforcing this anyway.

#RewardsPoints is back today. The question for 1000 points before 8 PM is: how many players are on an NFL roster? Answer: 53

Make certain to answer with #RewardsPoints only.

Yeah seriously. 2,000 Marriott Points? Like $14 a year is the cap? Why would anybody do this? I’ve probably only done this for a couple of weeks and I’m probably already maxed out.

I received the same email and was wondering what was up. Thanks for addressing this.

As best I can tell, #MRPoints was the # used for the daily 50 points (that could be abused through automation). #RewardsPoints is the # they are using for NFL trivia, which cannot be automated. I got the email saying I maxed out #MRPoints at 2,000 and stopped receiving the daily 50 points but I am still receiving NFL trivia points.

+1… maybe this is the catch to why they have two different terms, it would seem?

Got the same 2K limit email. The email had a copyright of 2016 at the bottom. Nonetheless I haven’t received any points since.

Per Marriott: “It turns out there was a late surge in participants during Week 2 of the campaign that caused a temporary glitch when some errant code came up against the volume limits that Twitter has in place. Within 24 hours all was fixed and the impacted members received a batch of points. We are not expecting this to happen again”

Also note that you cannot earn these points if your account is a Ritz-Carlton rewards account. I keep getting those email until their twitter team pointed it out. They were able to convert my account to marriott rewards account over twitter after my confirmation.

I just signed up my sister for this promo two days before they limited it, so she only earned 100 Marriott points, and it’s not working on her account. Limit is not 2000 it seems.
