Maximizing The StubHub $300 Credit On Chase Sapphire Reserve Card

Chase added $300 in annual StubHub credits to the Sapphire Reserve card, split into $150 from January through June and $150 from July through December. This benefit is available at least through December 2027.

Using The $150 StubHub Credit

  1. Activate: This is the only Chase Sapphire Reserve credit must be activated before making a purchase. Card > Card Benefits > StubHub > Activate. (The terms indicate that you just need to activate one time before your first use and it’ll be set up for all future years without requiring activation.)
  2. Gift card purchases: Gift card purchases on StubHub or Viagogo will not work to trigger the credit.  It’s excluded in the terms and reports confirm this does not work.
  3. Purchase timing: The credit triggers based on when the purchase posts, not the date of the event. For example, you can buy tickets on StubHub on December 20, 2025 for an event in March 2026, and you’ll use up your 2025 StubHub credit on the purchase since payment posted before December 31, 2025.
  4. Viagogo purchases: Any ticket purchased directly through StubHub.com or its sister site Viagogo.com works. Viagogo shows the same inventory as StubHub and sometimes tickets are cheaper there. Purchases in the StubHub and Viagogo app work as well.
  5. Taxes and fees; small purchases: All taxes and fees will get credited. E.g. if you buy a ticket for $130 and it comes out to $151 after taxes/fees, you’ll get a full $150 credit. If it comes out to $147, you’ll get $147 credit. If the total is $1 you’ll get a $1 credit and you can then make another purchase to use up the remaining $149 credit.
  6. Credit posting: Chase says to allow 2 billing cycles for credit, though most post within a few days.
  7. Payment types: Aside from direct credit card payments, StubHub accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Paypal. Using your Sapphire Reserve via Apple or Google Pay should work to trigger the credit. We have one confirmed report of getting the credit when using Paypal. Please let us know if you try. (See this post for general discussion on electronic wallets. Paypal is often trickier, and there is a chance that Chase support won’t manually credit in the event that something goes wrong with the automatic credit posting, so there is a slight risk to using Paypal.)
  8. Split payments: StubHub does not allow splitting payments between two cards. Reportedly, Paypal does offer the split-payment option for Stubhub purchases. That’s useful for a household with two Sapphire Reserve card and they want to make one large Stubhub purchase – if you get the split payment option via Paypal you can put part on one card and part on the other.

Here are the full Chase terms for the credit:

One-time activation required on chase.com or the Chase Mobile® app. A statement credit will be automatically applied to your account for qualifying purchases with StubHub and viagogo up to a maximum accumulation of $150 in statement credits from January 1 through June 30 and up to $150 from July 1 through December 31, for a total maximum accumulation of $300 in statement credits each calendar year through 12/31/27. Calendar year means January 1 through December 31 of that same year. Statement credit periods end at 11:59 PM ET on the last day of the period. Please note that merchant delays in the processing or submission of transactions can cause purchases made during one statement credit period to be allocated to the next period. Qualifying purchases are when you or an authorized user of the account use the card for purchases (excluding gift cards) made directly with StubHub and viagogo through stubhub.com and the StubHub app and viagogo.com and the viagogo app. Please note that purchases for events in the UK cannot be completed through stubhub.com and you will be redirected to stubhub.co.uk, operated by StubHub International, to complete these purchases; StubHub is not affiliated with StubHub International and these purchases will not qualify. Call the number on the back of your card to find out eligibility for your next $300 Annual StubHub Credit. The $300 Annual StubHub Credit must be available at the time qualifying purchases are made to be applied to your account. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for statement credit(s) to appear on your monthly credit card billing statement. We may reverse statement credits if an eligible purchase is returned, canceled, or modified or if you close your account within 90 days of receiving a statement credit. No minimum purchase required.

Maximizing & Stacking

  1. Shopping portal: Before buying, check the shopping portal rates. Consider timing your purchase with a high shopping portal offer. We’ve seen Rakuten offer 10x at StubHub, for example. (Also always worth clicking around in the Capital One Shopping portal and waiting a day to see if they email you a special offer.)
  2. Reselling StubHub: You can buy a ticket on StubHub and resell it on StubHub. Just keep in mind the risk of the ticket going unsold – especially important for amateur sellers who are unfamiliar with ticket market trends. You’ll also get hit with 10-15% seller fees from StubHub so you won’t end up with a full $150 profit.
  3. Check Viagogo: As noted, Viagogo purchases work for the StubHub credit. Viagogo carries the same inventory and sometimes has lower prices than StubHub.
  4. Stack with discounted gift cards: As noted, buying gift cards on StubHub will not work to trigger the Chase StubHub credit. However, you can use gift cards to your advantage in another way: if you find StubHub gift cards on sale, buy them and apply them to your StubHub account. Then, when making a large StubHub purchase, the gift card can cover most of the cost and you’ll put the final $150 on your Sapphire card. Check this link to see if we covered any StubHub gift card deals on DoC.
    • Important: you can’t tell StubHub how much to put on the gift card balance, and so you’ll have to plan out how high your gift card balance is. For example, if you want a $500 StubHub purchase, apply $350 in gift cards to your StubHub account and then the final $150 will be able to go on your Sapphire card.
    • StubHub gift cards work on Viagogo and vice versa.
  5. Timing your purchase: Sometimes StubHub prices will be better as you get closer to an event. If you’re flexible with planning you might be able to get a better buy.
  6. Split Payment: As noted, there is a chance you can split your StubHub purchase between two Sapphire Reserve cards via Paypal, but we don’t yet have confirmations on Paypal working.
  7. Backup plan: If you don’t have any use for StubHub, here are some things to consider:
    • Gift: Buy a ticket as a gift for a friend.
    • Resell: Buy a ticket and try reselling it on StubHub. If you’re not a ticket expert, buy something as close to $150 as possible (after taxes and fees) so that you don’t have anything to lose.
    • Portal: Do it for the portal – even without reselling the ticket, you can buy a ticket which comes out to exactly $150 after taxes and fees and you’ll net the portal rewards. Small win.
