Movies Anywhere Review – Get 5 Free Movies (Ice Age, Ghostbusters Answer The Call, Big Hero 6, Jason Bourne & The Lego Movie)

Introduction

Movies Anywhere is a new service that connects your iTunes, Vudu, Google Play & Amazon accounts and then lets you import your purchased movies from those accounts. You can then watch the movies from the Movies Anywhere app and each movie will appear across all of your accounts (e.g if you import a movie from iTunes it will also show up in your Google Play account). Previously this service was called Disney Movies Anywhere and only available for Disney movies. They have just rebranded to Movies Anywhere as the following studios have also joined the program: 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Warner Bros.

5 Free Movies

At the moment they are offering five movies for free.

  • Get Ice Age & Ghostbusters Answer The Call when you connect your 1st retailer
  • Get Big Hero 6, Jason Bourne & The Lego movie when you connect your 2nd retailer

Downsides

  • Only works for participating studios: Disney, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Warner Bros
  • Only works with participating ‘retailers’: iTunes, Vudu, Google Play & Amazon
  • Only available in the United States if you’re over the age of 13
  • It only covers movies, TV shows are not covered
  • They do track your viewing data and there are other privacy concerns

Our Verdict

Personally I don’t really rewatch movies that often so I rarely buy them, if I had young children that loved to watch the same movie 100 times then maybe Movies Anywhere would be more appealing to me but for now I’ll just stick to the selection on Netflix.

Another bonus of movies anywhere is that you can swap accounts in and out every 120 days so you could slowly combine your libraries with friends.

And you can take advantage of vudu disc to digital to get HD copies of movies for $2 in other services.

Can you describe the adding accounts thing to share libraries? I haven’t heard that one before!

I haven’t actually done it yet but my plan is to create a temporary MA account to sync with a friends library using google or amazon (the accounts I do not use regularly). Then I would add this account back to my mail MA account. We would both have access to each other’s libraries. Need to test it out first to see how the 120 days rules work. Probably cannot sync it back to my main account for 120 days but does it also have to be 120 since synced with the temporary account?

Followup bonus: you can use this list of barcodes to redeem $2 Vudu movies and they will sync with your other accounts. I got 10 movies for $20. Unfortunately, Vudu does not code as a bonus for CF Walmart category. https://slickdeals.net/f/9899132-vudu-app-disc-to-digital-program-dvd-sd-2-hdx-5-blu-ray-hdx-2-w-barcode-scan
