Our Verdict

Looks pretty good rewards rates for a no-fee card, plus no foreign transaction fees. Also a nice signup bonus. You need to be a member a current or previous member of the armed forces (and related), or be a family member of a member. Hats off to all our service members and veterans.

applied for a member savings acct & got the msg:

‘We’re reviewing your membership application
Please allow 3 to 5 business days for processing. We’ll let you know via mail or email once we’re done.’

is it normal / typical or smthg amiss on my end?

It is. They’ll follow up if you’re eligible or they need more proof that you’re eligible to open an account. The actual processing time might be a little longer, if it is call their customer service.

I have a question about the points.
I have Flagship. If I get this card, can I “transfer” the points over to my Flagship, so they are all in one place?
Or must the points stay (remain) with this card?

Sorry, I meant “Harcourt”

Unfortunately you cannot. Per a Navy Federal customer service rep each card has it’s own points system and they can’t be merged. I wish you could though!

Does this card have a spending cap on supermarkets? If not, this card is a better choice compared to Blue Cash Preferred if annual spending on groceries is at least $11K. Here is my math:

NFCU AmEx: $11K * 3% = $330
BCP: ($6K * 6%) + ($5 * 1%) = 360 + 50 = 410 – 90 (AF) = $320

Ken Dano that’s the math if you don’t have any other cards that earn a grocery multiplier

Is it the standard Amex MR points or just some navy credit union card points to itself?

They are not AMEX MR points. The points are from NFCU and worth 1 cent each

I loaded a Serve with this CC and it posted as a retail purchase, and earned rewards points.

I did not set my cash advance to zero. Yes, green…apparently this is something the seasoned veterans already know, that non AmEx issued AmEx’s will often (or always?) code as purchase with Serve loads – is this perhaps an American Express network requirement??? Only one card can be set up to load each Serve card, you can’t set up multiple CCs on your Serve. Perhaps removing and adding a new one can work I read somewhere that the limit is $200/day & 1k/month with AmEx credit card loads but haven’t tested myself.
