Neiman Marcus Data Breach – 4.6 Million Customers Affected Including Payment Information

Neiman Marcus has confirmed that unauthorized access to customer accounts has occurred. The issue occurred in May 2020 and affects 4.6 million customers. Information accessed includes:

  • names and contact information;
  • payment card numbers and expiration dates (without CVV numbers);
  • Neiman Marcus virtual gift card numbers (without PINs); and
  • usernames, passwords, and security questions and answers

Of these 4.6 million customers it’s estimated that 3.1 million had payment data accessed. Unfortunately these types of data breaches will continue to occur until the penalties for them are increased.

There need to be automatic, very large fines for failing to secure account data of customers and/or clients. Some businesses and organizations just seem to have no clue about data security and proper training for their work force.

People may want to check the “Have I Been Pwned” website by security researcher Troy Hunt, to see if their email address or phone number (or password!) has appeared in any data breaches, and if so, in which ones.

Submitting your email address to a third-party website to see if it was compromised on another third-party website is a great to way ensure that the party continues

Not really. They don’t sell your address (known, respectable site with clear terms of use) and you don’t input your password(s). Many other third parties do the same thing via password manager apps, identity protection services, etc.

Who said anything about selling? The entire point of a security breach is to not have to pay. If your shit is out there, it’s vulnerable no matter how clear terms of use are.

It’s healthy to be skeptical, but Troy Hunt is a well-respected researcher: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Hunt
Check out the “About” section on the “Have I Been Pwned” site.

I was hit by the breach. I never ordered anything from them.

Logged into my account as I made a purchase years ago and saw my shipping address and billing address changed. No card on file so no financial hack thankfully. There should be a class action for this breach, especially as it happened over a year ago with no notice. They are obviously not making sure their consumer information is safe not to mention this is not the first time.

Thanks for confirming that Neiman Marcus is still in business. Have not shopped there since college.

And I’m surprised your ad hominem attacks are still taking over an hour to clear moderation.
