New Kroger Credit Card Now Live (5% On Mobile Wallet Transactions)

The new Kroger credit card is now live and offers the following:

  • Earn 5% cash back on mobile wallet transactions (up to $3,000 in spend)
  • Earn 2% cash back inside the Kroger Family of Companies
  • Earn 1% cash back on all other purchases
  • 25¢ per gallon discount when redeeming 100 fuel points (first year and thereafter where you spend at least $6,000 on the card)

You can view the previous earning structure here. Sometimes there is a $150 sign up bonus on this card, so might be worth waiting for that to return (currently $100).

Information I think should be added to the post: you need to be in a state where Kroger or its other brands do business in order to get this card or the other branded cards. For example (and unfortunately I know this from experience), NY does not have any grocery stores from Kroger/Harris Teeter/Ralphs/etc. (other than Murray cheese which does not count) so you will be denied if applying from NY. However, someone who has a Harris Teeter in their state but not a Ralphs could get either or both (according to DPs on Reddit).

To add: applying from a state where ineligible should not result in a hard pull. Application will be automatically denied.

Anyone know how good your credit has to be to get this card (or this card under the other brands like pick n save)? Any data points?

Also, does US Bank cap how many cards you can have with them? I already have 2 (Cash+ and Altitude).

Am I understanding correctly that you get 7% cash back when buying Kroger brand products in store and use Kroger Pay? That seems quite good for how many people I see calling the card trash.

Does anyone know if Google Pay on websites via PC trigger 5% cashback? For example, when you checkout on eBay on a PC, eBay accepts Google Pay and Apple Pay

I called US Bank to product change my Altitude Go to the Ralph’s Mastercard, and was told I couldn’t do so.

The only options available were the Platinum, Cash+ and Altitude Connect.
I may want to go for a SUB on the last two in the future, so back to the sock drawer my AltGo goes!

Does anyone know US Bank’s history when it comes to nerfing cards? While the limit is low, this is a good catch all card for purchases that don’t fit into other categories (i.e. veterinary bills).

I’m still traumatized from Barclays and the Uber Visa card

Am I not seeing this being asked? Is 2% in a Kroger store on top on top of a 5% mobile wallet for a total of 7% back on the first 3K?

Even if that stacks it would only be 6%. Stacked categories never earn the base rate twice.

You’ll have to find a Kroger store that accepts NFC payments first!

It doesn’t stack. They make it very clear it doesn’t on the paperwork sent to you in the mail once you get the card. It’ll default to mobile wallet for the first $3,000.

Anybody know if you can get multiple variants to effectively expand that 5% mobile wallet bonus limit?

I would like to know that as well. It looks like the Harris Teeter variant has a 3% cashback category for gas and dining purchases.

It doesn’t stack. They make it very clear it doesn’t on the paperwork sent to you in the mail once you get the card. It’ll default to mobile wallet for the first $3,000 and then to the 3% for the next $3,000 during that calendar year.
