The Offer
- Chase is offering a bonus of $100 when you open a new Secure Banking account and complete 10 qualifying transactions
The Fine Print
- Bonus/Account Information: Offer valid until 07/14/2021.
- Offer not available to existing Chase checking customers, or those whose accounts have been closed within 90 days or closed with a negative balance within the last 3 years.
- You can receive only one new checking account opening related bonus every two years from the last coupon enrollment date and only one bonus per account.
- Coupon is good for one-time use. Employees of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. and its affiliates are not eligible for this offer.
- To receive the bonus: 1) Open a new Chase Secure Banking account, which is subject to approval; AND 2) Complete at least 10 qualifying transactions within 60 days of coupon enrollment. After you have completed all the above requirements and the 10 qualifying transactions have posted to your account, we’ll deposit the bonus into your new account within 15 days.
- To receive this bonus, the enrolled account must not be closed or restricted at the time of payout.
- Qualifying transactions include debit card purchases, online bill payments, Chase QuickDepositSM, Zelle®, or ACH credits. Bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT (or Form 1042-S, if applicable).
- Account Closing: If the checking account is closed by the customer or Chase within six months after coupon enrollment, we will deduct the bonus amount at closing.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has a $4.95 monthly fee.
Early Account Termination Fee
You lose the bonus if you close the account within six months of account opening.
Our Verdict
Chase launched secured checking in early 2019. Better to wait for the $600 bonus to return. We won’t add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

William Charles,
I think you meant to write this: “Update 8/23/21: Deal is back and valid until 10/18/2021. Hat tip to BBK”
what a joke!
Chase Secure Banking account is for bad credit person only?
I know the secure credit card, always has annual fee.
It looks like the fee is unavoidable so you would be losintg $4.95 x 6 months of the bonus since you need to keep the account open for at least 6 months.
This offer is back and expires on 10/18/2021. https://account.chase.com/consumer/banking/RD24726?sitelink=100offer&jp_cmp=rb/Secure+Banking_Brand_Phrase_Secure_SEM_IFP_DeskTab_Standard_NA/sea/p64722247890/Brand_Secure+Banking&opti_ca=13701268202&opti_ag=123660046069&opti_ad=530400324636&opti_key=kwd-1128793764695&gclid=CjwKCAjw64eJBhAGEiwABr9o2CAgFhJK8B8eGGl5OmjiPk58W5YqUB9Ta5e4B1MYe-wPxq9qYiKlQxoCe3AQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds But it’s not worth it compared to $225 bonus offer https://account.chase.com/consumer/banking/seo
In 2019 chase closed my checking after I received the bonus over a pull that didn’t have the correct amount and it was returned. Typo.
When my account was closed it had a positive balance but they didn’t care. I wasn’t banned from their credit cards, thankfully.
But just now I was approved for the chase secure after being denied last month for the total checking.
I wonder how long i could keep this account to get it later upgraded to say chase total checking? Maybe a way to off the ban list? Can we even do that?
I’ll gladly eat $5 monthly to get off the list for future churns down the road.
So this is for deadbeats and losers… people who messed up on chexsystems?
Not really how I’d put it but it’s basically an equivalent to a secured CC for banking the best I can tell.
yes, perfect for you!
I have a business checking account and had a savings account in the past. Would I qualify? Wouldn’t want to pay 6 months of fees to find out no.
Personal and business bonuses are separate, so you should be eligible, but I would strongly recommend you (and everyone else) skip this one
Chase waives monthly fees if you are military.
Monthly fee on a bank account, so glad I had signed up for Finn and got grandfathered in before Chase killed it because it didn’t have enough fees.
Dan Finn?
Still have my chase Finn card, that was a great bonus and fee free account
Finn was Chase’s answer to online only banks. No fees, easy to sign up for, and had the nice perk of being tied to Chase network 9f ATMs and branch banking needs. They ended and merged Finn into Chase last year, but those of us who had it got to keep everything but the name the same.
