Our Verdict
This is the best signup bonus offer we’ve seen on the personal Chase Southwest cards. The best we’ve seen in the past was 85,000.
This offer is also available via referral links. The old referral links show ‘offer not available’ and reroute to the new offer. I’m not certain that referrals track in that case, let us know if you have experience. Regardless, you can likely generate a new referral link and that should work cleanly. I like the long five months to meet the spend requirement. This makes it easier, and can also potentially help for timing the Southwest Companion Pass.

Observation: earning a companion pass with new account bonuses requires two SW credit cards. That’s a minimum in annual fees of $248, payable in the first month.
We’ll meet the MSR by paying taxes (among other things), we’ll pay ~$200 in credit card user fees. We would otherwise pay those expenses by other means and not pay the CC fees, so I consider the fees travel expenses, i.e., the cost of airfare.
In summary, a companion pass good for ~2 years (if we time it ideally) and 167,000 RR points (bonuses + spending) will cost us a total of $450. Assuming we use it, that’s a good deal. We’ll cancel the cards when the second year fee posts, for a refund.
Other users may meet the MSR without CC transaction fees but still pay a minimum of $250 in annual fees. Paying the higher annual fees on other versions may be worthwhile if you value the added benefits.
“have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months”
Will Chase decline my application if I have received a bonus within the last 24 months or will they approve and not grant the bonus? I found a DOC article from 2017 that said they will decline but not sure what the current policy is.
My understanding is Chase recently changed their system. You can now get approved for a card without getting the SUB. However, if this is the case, they will notify you with a popup (like Amex does) that you have to accept before proceeding. So you should know in the application process whether or not you’ll get the SUB.
Thanks. I cancelled my Chase SW card today and will apply on the 17th and post an update.
Are people still applying for both the Personal and Business as in the past? Or have things changed?
I didn’t because we want to time the points to earn a companion pass in 2026. The personal card(s) have a 5 month spending period, which means opening one now (before the offer expires mid-September) gives through January to earn the points. The business cards have the standard 3-month spending period. If opened now, we’d have to earn the points by the end of November. That’s too early, so we’ll delay opening that account until November 1. That’s in time for us to use it to pay property taxes November 30th.
I just opened an account. When setting up the automatic payment it showed the payment will be due 10/20. I surmise the first statement will close ~9/25. Does that mean I have until 1/25/26 to make the minimum spending requirements? I don’t want to complete it before 1/1/26 to maximize the life of the companion pass I hope to earn.
Can you close this account after receiving points and / using them before the end of the year to avoid the renewal annual fee, I could not find this info on the website.
How soon can you change the due date? I’m getting an error in app that it can’t be done, possibly because the account is too new.
Does payment of property taxes qualify for minimum required spending?
Edit: … or Federal personal income taxes?
I’ve used it to pay IRS in the past and it counted
Thanks.
I’ve never had property taxes NOT count toward minimum spend on a signup bonus, and I’ve done it every year for 10 years… Sometimes splitting across 2 cards.
Can you split the payment with 2 cards in one transaction?
Yes, IRS estimated payments OR property taxes would count towards the spend. Some counties allow to pay property taxes via paypal with no fee 😉
still on my 24 month cooldown
If I have the priority personal card, can I apply for one of the other personal cards and still get the 100k bonus?
So I can apply for this now and safely have the total spend hit next year? Basic math tells my I have until 1/11/26 to hit the spend but it feels crazy early to get the card. I have a big expense this week that will put me close to $4k that I’d like to apple pay on this card and let it sit until next year.
