[Expired] Office Depot/Max: $15 Instant Discount on $300 Visa Gift Card Purchases [4/14-4/20]

Deal has expired, view more Office Depot deals by clicking here

The Offer

  • Office Depot/Max stores are offering a $15 instant discount when you buy $300 in Visa gift cards.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 4/14 – 4/20/19
  • In store only
  • Limit of one

Our Verdict

This is the best version of this deal, sometimes it’s for Mastercard gift cards that are generally more difficult to unload and other times it’s for a discount of only $10 instead of $15. You can either purchase two $200 cards or one $200 and one $100. The variable load cards are cash only so won’t work. Normally you can do this deal multiple times in different transactions but YMMV. As always remember to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores.

Same here brother. On top of that I’ve got my MO game DOWN with my local WM. Lady knows what I want before I open my mouth.

Sucks that these stores closed down in NY

So 2x (200.00 + 6.95) – $15.00 =398.90 ?? Sadly no Yelp.

Can i use credit card to buy this?

I went to an Office Depot today to try to take advantage of the last day for the $15 on $300 Visa GC promotion, when I tried purchasing two Grocery Everywhere Visa GCs with my Ink Cash I was told that it was cash or debit only for any of the variable load Visas. I left and by the time I got to my car in the parking lot I realized I could buy fixed priced Visas but didn’t even bother to go back to check if they had any. I like purchasing the everywhere cards because the fees are $4.99 per card. This is odd because yesterday I was at an Office Max and was able to purchase them with my Ink Cash.

That limitation definitely isn’t applied at all Office Depots.

Does any apps track Office Depot VGC purchases?

nonimmigranth1b

I have bought the VGC’s from OD and it tracked the 7% cash back for me.

Ann
Ann

I assume “it” means the Yelp cashback app, which ended its 7% OD CB recently.

Ben
Ben

Whatever glitch they had is over, Yelp is tracking 7% at OD again.

So the Everywhere cards should also work like last time?

Mimi
Mimi

Yes, I bought DE, GE, SE two $200 each transaction, was allowed 4 transactions by store manager since their racks were full and then I went to the WMNM next door to buy *two $799.12 MGMOs. I alternated two CICs for these transactions.

*I wasn’t sure if friendly cashier would allow me to get another MO of same amount but I mustered enough courage to ask and she said Sure, no problem : )

DE= dining everywhere
GE= grocery everywhere
SE= style everywhere

DB
DB

All of the Everywhere’s can be liquidated with no issues at WM? Great to know!

veeRob

No, not all.

Mimi
Mimi

YMMV always so make sure to check YOUR liquidation places if you can liquidate them there. Sometimes, even at the same store, different cashiers would say NO, you just have to keep trying till you find a cooperative cashier.

AP
AP

Mimi I take it that you’ve done Serve loads with the DE/GE/SE variables since they are lower fees than, say MB VGC. Are they any different than a MB/USB VGC for you when loading into Serve at, say, a WM?

If you are, then it makes sense to go for the Everywhere’s over the MB’s because of the lower fees.

Mimi
Mimi

AP , they load w/o issues for me when loading S/BB at my WMs and WMNMs. Main advantage is lower purchase fees.

As always, when it comes to liquidating them, YMMV applies.

AP
AP

I see, thanks. I take it you are hitting OD hard this week? If so, how often are you going?

arch

Great that SE works, last time I was only able to get DE as the store had few cards. Now if the ME worked that would be even better.

veeRob

Depends on the WM.

Leo
Leo

Last Friday local WM gave an error on the card reader when using SE for MO. Tried two different SE cards (purchased at times/stores).

good looking out on this tip, mimi! picked up a two 200 se today for a cool 395 to close our the msr for p2’s cic. will see this weekend if any issues unloading at wm for bb or mo’s

can Everywhere card be loaded to Serve?

Superman
Superman

Since you replied to a thread w/ multiple DPs of DE/GE/SE loading to BB/Serve at WM’s MC, do you have a different scenario in mind to try? Can’t say I’ve ever tried loading FE to Serve at a 7-Eleven gas station.

I have an AE Marriott business Bonvoy and Chase Ink Preferred, If I use each to buy $800 in two different transactions, Could work? If I can’t make two transactions, which one could be better of using?

Rowan
Rowan

As far as I know neither get any any bonus points for office supplies category, so you’re looking at 2x for the AMEX Bonvoy vs 1x points if you use the CIP. Depending on how much you value each I’d probably call it a wash in terms of initial value of the points.

Either way, in my opinion your time is better spent elsewhere rather than trying to grind out manufactured spending at this SLOW pace for non-bonused spending…

On the other hand, if you’re needing to meet a minimum spending requirement on these 2 cards, I’d highly recommend just using the Chase card as AE is known for causing problems for people who buy gift cards, etc while meeting a MSR.

Why wouldn’t variable load work? We just bought those today

Is there a limit on these?

I am liquidating on a bluebird. If I swipe these visa at Walmart do I have to click the cancel button on the keypad or is that just for MCGC?

Mimi
Mimi

No, these are Visa GCs, no need for the change/cancel trick to load BB/Serve and/or buy MOs.

Debit

I wish they had a different version of that pathetic gift card. All the cashiers know it’s a gift card just from the look of it.

Jim

Cash only with ID and limit one $300 . No thanks. Also too hard to drain fast! MS has been dead since the last 4 years

Recon

Try other ods in the area. Three weeks ago when od offered $10 back, I went to 5 different ods with my 2 ink cards. All but 1 let me do separate transactions and all let me use chase ink cc to purchase

William Charles

>>The variable load cards are cash only so won’t work>>

IME, store manager didn’t stop me from using CIC for payment so this remains YMMV since some stores may disallow CCs but it’s not hardcoded so others can ask management if they can try if CC will go through. I’ve had situations in the past where cashier was unsure about CCs but I asked nicely if I can try with my CC and payment went through.

sam
sam

The issue is draining this. Can’t just be spending money on GCS and then be shocked with huge credit card bill! You can’t drain them fast like you used to! gone are the days you can easily drain them fast. now you are stuck with this for daily purchase

Kaung
Kaung

Yeah, ok, wink wink. Liquidating, and the rest of MS, is highly geography dependent.

Mimi
Mimi

It’s always YMMV when MSing. Best thing to do is ALWAYS do test purchases and see if people can drain them in THEIR area before buying more. I live in MS haven but I still have back up plans on how to turn back my GCs to cash.

Ric
Ric

I just got $400 in two VGCs and I paid with An AE Business Bonvoy, I actually paid $398.90. she didn’t care if I was using the CC, but she didn’t allow me to do two transactions with different CCs. So I guess I have to go later on the day or to another location.

+1. OD is “mean” on split payments. Staples is “nice”.

Is this stackable with the yelp cash back?

I did a bunch of transactions with Yelp today and they tracked. Hopefully it pays out. Terms say $250 max until May 22nd.

While searching in Visa level data, all Office Depots around my area report this data level, however, I don’t see any of my transactions itemize from the last visit to Office Depot for VGC. I am trying to meet the minimum spend for my CIP and AEBonvoy, Should I take advantage of this offer or wait until I meet the minimum spend? I heard that sometimes AE or Chase don’t pay bonuses because of GCs purchases during the first 3 months period.

Rigel
Rigel

Any more DP on this? Tried to use my amex to buy some VGC to mee the minimum spending requirement for retention bonus. Not sure if OD/OM GC counts.

Rowan
Rowan

I’ve primarily used VGC/MGC’s for meeting MSR on multiple personal and business Chase cards without issue. As I mentioned on my reply to your other comment, I’d definitely avoid using your AMEX card for anything other than organic spending.
