[Expired] Office Depot/Max: Visa Gift Cards, Save $15 When You Buy $300 [11/17-11/23]

Deal has expired, view more Office Depot deals by clicking here.

The Offer

  • Office Depot/Max stores are offering a $15 instant discount when you buy $300 in Visa gift cards.

The Fine Print

  • Limit 1 per household/business
  • Discount applies at register
  • Valid 11/17-11/23
  • Purchase fees may apply

Our Verdict

This is the best variation of this offer ($15 discount and on Visa gift cards). Either purchase two $200 cards or one $200 and one $100 card to trigger the offer. Remember to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply store purchases.

Dining Everywhere didn’t work for me for buying MO at Walmart. Has anyone experienced that before? They used to work earlier.

Thanks, I’ll do that but interestingly, I’ve used DE cards at the same WM before.

I have several WMs in my town (WM, WMNM, WMSC). DE & GE have always been about 50/50 for me. SE works at more of my WMs and EE at less of them. Once I find the one that works, I tend to stick with it. I really like GE too because if it gets rejected at WM then I can load to Serve at DG or buy a MO at grocery store. If nothing else, convert DE to stocking-stuffers after Thanksgiving, when lots of restaurants have that buy a GC of $xx and get a 20% bonus. Or use DE to shop at Costco per these comments. feng

I like to drag my wife to the store to double up on these. My location lets me buy three sets (2×200) and lets her buy another three sets. They don’t care if I come back every day but that’s hard to do. I probably ought to check my Ink Plus card to see if I’ve hit the annual max yet before getting any more. I’d hate to only get 1% on these.

Today an OD manager explained that Metabank is paying for the $15 discount to promote their VGCs and has a limit of 1 customer transaction per day for that reason. This used to be much easier to scale. YMMV

Went to office max today to buy 2 everywhere Visa card, but no $15 discount. Staff checked with manager and said there is no visa promotion this week. Don’t know what happened…..

All of the Office Depots in my area are now restricting 1 transaction per day for this offer. One Office Depot nearby had no daily limit restrictions and now only permits 1 trans per day. Good luck!……..YMMV

Cashiers seem to appreciate when you give them your rewards number. I think it helps their ratings. That being said, no requirement to do so.

Guessing your store lets people buy as many as they want (and they sell out quickly) and/or they are proactively limiting the stock on the shelf. Ask the cashier or a manager if they have more, more often than not they have when I’ve asked.

I tried to use the gift cards bought over the past deals to buy money order, but no go at my local Walmart and post office. Told to use debit cards or cash only, no gift cards. Could anyone let me know if this still works at Walmart. ( I later learned that this no longer works at post office. Does buying money order still work at Walmart or grocery stores? I have about $3000 gift cards , need to convert to cash as soon as possible.Thanks.

I’m sure some Walmarts still work as others have liquidated but some areas have shut it down, mine included. There are other methods you can by searching online. I only buy these cards if I know I can unload them via organic spend as a result.

Thanks. I also do most of organic spend with these gift cards, but I hate to always keep track the spend, make sure all charges correct and drain the cards to zero. very time consuming.

should work at WM and Grocer. USPS is out. What kind of VGCs did you get from Officemax? If you got hte Style Anywhere or Grocery Anywhere, they’ll work at Walmart – Movies Anywhere or Gas Anywhere will not. Also: standard VGCs will work (as long as they’re debits, and issued by Metabank). if you got something else (not sure what else there is), then no.

The issue isn’t the cards not working with the system, it’s cashiers asking to see the card and not allowing you to use gift cards. Enforcement is on an employee by employee and store by store basis in my area. Whether or not I can buy MOs depends on who is working the counter.

I had a minor scare at my grocery store today. In the past I have been able to use up to five $200 cards but today some error message popped up when I swiped the third and the cashier was very confused/skeptical. She called over the manager who asked to see the cards but thankfully she was totally fine with it and punched a couple buttons and then I was able to finish all five.

I should probably shave before I try to buy MO again, I look a little sketchy as-is.

I second your comment. The WM store manager has the last word regarding store policy on whether one can purchase a MO or not. I had a WM CS employee block me from purchasing MOs because she said I had purchased too much in MOs that week. I asked the CS manager and she said it was in the CS employee discretion whether a customer can purchase MOs. In another situation the store manager told the employee to go ahead and process the MO. YMMV……….In general, the situation is getting more to difficult to liquidate MOs at WMs.

Some of the WMs are asking for my SS# even when the MO amount is less than $1k. Last week, I could not purchase MOs at 2 WMs after entering my SS# with the computer screen display “TRANSACTION CANNOT BE PROCESSED”………YMMV

Thanks. I got the regular $200 visa gift cards by Metabank. Yesterday I bought $500 visa GC ($20-$500) from OD.

You can load these to Serve or Bluebird also, but just to reinforce what others have said, it’s a really bad idea to buy these without a good plan to liquidate, and then you should always have a backup plan (or three), just in case.

Also – don’t buy more than you can comfortably float for the next 30-60 days if you have to.

Good idea. Thanks. I have been trying to meet the new credit card spend requirement. I guess the worst case, I could do organic spend and costco purchase. But if could promptly convert to cash by money order, that will give me better peace of mind.

Celia

If it’s a really good money back deal and I have a lot to unload organically, I go on costco.com or other stores I frequent and buy gift cards for the exact amount, especially the MC ones since I can’t use them in store. That way I don’t have to keep track of some of them and I know I’ll use at costco pretty easily.

Walmart works but at times you will need to escalate to the manager and be persistent. Walmart corporate has confirmed multiple times with me over the phone that they accept up to 4 payments/swipes per money order with either a pin-based debit card or cash. Walmart gift cards are not accepted.

I like the Everywhere cards instead of the regular Visas – $4.95 fee vs 6.95. Get 100 of those and the savings pay for my Wagyu steak. 🙂
