OfficeMax/Depot: $15 Instant Rebate On $300 In Visa Gift Cards (Limit Of Two)

The Offer

  • Receive an instant discount of $15 when you purchase $300 or more in Visa gift cards from OfficeMax or Office Depot

The Fine Print

  • Valid from October 9th – 15th
  • Limit of two offers per customer
  • Discount automatically applied at register
  • Visa gift cards are issued by MetaBank

Our Verdict

They usually carry both $100 and $200 Visa gift cards. Make sure you use a credit card that earns at a high rate on office supply purchases. Office Depot will usually give you $30 off if you purchase $600 in one transaction, whereas OfficeMax doesn’t seem to work (but YMMV). Enjoy this discount, it’s one of the best.

Also don’t forget there’s a targeted Amex Offer of $20 off $100 at Office Depot/Max valid through October 21!

To clarify the register pops up a message that stated cash only.

I went to the same office depot yesterday and today. Yesterday the gift card(Master card $100) was without fee. Today the gift card was with fee. Maybe the sale is over.

Per comment above can you use multiple cards at the post office to purchase money orders?

Considering the low postal money order fee that would seem the best way to turn this into cash by depositing in bank account.

Ive had success doing that. I use 5 cards and purchase a $1000 MO. My USPS lmits MOs to $3k without needing to give away your social so I buy $2,000-$2,800 a shot depending on how many I have and how nice the USPS rep is.

But in short, yes, you can do unlimited partial payments towards a Money Order (at least at my Socal USPSs).

seems like the sales associates are much better trained this time around than last. Theyre limiting it to $600 each visit, where last time I was able to convince them it was limit two transactions per person ($1200).

Worked automatically for me on the FiveBack Variable Cards as well. Got 3 ($200 each) for 590.85 in a single transaction and now have the option of earning a further 5% (in addition to the 5% earned buying the cards) using these VGCs at other stores including Sears, Kmart, BBB, etc.
Did have a tough time convincing the manager that its limit 2 offers and not limit 2 cards which is what he had instructed all cashiers.

Interesting DP. So OM/OD have Variable Gift Cards AND some also have flat $200.00 Flat Rate Gift Cards. Previously, I stick to the Flat Rate Gift cards. After exchanging posts with a Reddit fellow poster, I got some 5-200 VGC at OM. Both rang correctly at the register just presenting the discount in a different way.

When I went to find a local store near me, it showed me a 20% off a single qualifying item if I signed up for emails.

Think I can stack that with this $15.00 – $30 off?

And since Im new to this Im thinking you buy these cards with the high INK card (which I have) at 5%, then you sell the gift cards to a reseller?

Not real clear on how you sell them to a reseller however, that’s the manufacturing spend I read about on this site?

Am I getting it?

Thank you

Why resell them and take a hit? Yes you got it. Get out your INK card. See above comments or use them at places your regular credit cards do not get you extra percentage cash bank like your utility bill.
Combine your various Chase cards Ultimate Rewards into one pile and figure out which gets you the best return.

I would be shocked if the 20% off works with these. I suspect the fine print says not valid on Gift Cards.

Jeff

Thank you for the great additional info such as use it for the personal utility bills.

And combining the various chase cards UR (I just got the Chase Sapphire Reserve) and wont have any problem hitting the 4K spend as I have to put a new well in one of my Rent To Own Homes. I will combine that with my INK Cash Card.

I was thinking wouldnt hurt to try to charge 1/2 of the new well on the INK Cash card. Think a well drilling company classifies as a utility company? By trying, it wont take away from the spend to get the 100,000 bonus on the CSR.

I will also combine those 2 cards with the new Freedom Card. I wanted to make a warehouse purchase so I applied, then based on info I found on this site called customer service and they are expediting the card.

You are right, the 20% offer for Office Depot will not work. It is for online purchases only. GC are for in store only.

So Tuesday Im off to Chase to open the checking & savings account for those bonuses. Its really to bad they wont let you fund the accounts with the new credit card limits they just handed me. I would much rather tie up their money, than mine.

Would have been nice, but no cigar.

Thanks again for helping this newbie Jeff!!

Just by reading this site for a few days, Ive will/have obtained mega credit lines (without having to pay anyone else to get them for me), 0% interest for 15 months; $150 sign up bonus on the Freedom, 100,000 sign up bonus on the CSR, $500 checking/savings account bonus with Chase and racking up some heavy duty UR for purchases I would have made anyway.

All for a few days reading…so thank you to the people behind this site. Please use the above as a testimonial if you would like.

Limit two offers per household or business, per day. If you own multiple businesses, you’re still capped at two per day because of the person residing in the same household.

The stores will start to run out of stock as the week goes on though…

Yes that’s what the terms and conditions state, but they’re not really tracking it. You can hit multiple stores in a day or even the same store multiple times in a day, as long as you get a different cashier/authorizing manager each time.

Not at all.I get them to top off my Barclay card cash back at 1.5% cash back. I have a 2% cashback card that just went over the Statement closing date. Makes getting to $50.00 cash out point easier to get to.
55 days without using a 9% APR backup line of credit. Well worth higher short term utilization.
Not recommended for everybody, but I have a nice check coming in November to stabilize things.
I go to the Post Office for MO and take to friendly bank. Others take to Walmart or grocery, etc. Some take the savings and just spend them like normal

Great time to review

if you have a Walmart nearby, check out Gobank. it’s just like SErve, except the stated monthly limits are lower.

i say “stated” b/c you can exceed the limits, seemingly without bounds. pretty sweet

For the record, 8.95 or $500 monthly DD to avoid the fee.

Not an insurmountable obstacle….
