Paypal Business Debit Card can only be Funded with Bank Account Starting in March

Paypal just sent out an email to their Paypal Business Debit cardholders indicating that beginning March 11 it will only be possible to have the backup funding on the card (in the event there are no funds in the Paypal account) come from a bank account. Previously, it was possible to link a Paypal/Ebay credit card as well.

Beginning March 11, 2019, a linked bank account will be the only backup funding source supported for your PayPal Business Debit Card. Any other currently linked backup funding source will automatically be unlinked from your PayPal Business Debit Card, including the PayPal Extras Mastercard, PayPal Smart Connect account, PayPal Cashback Mastercard, and eBay Mastercard.
PayPal encourages cardholders to link a bank account so purchases can be made even when funds are not available in your PayPal balance.

End of an era. If it had to end, I sorta like the way it’s ending. Much calmer ending than anticipated.

This backup funding with debit and credit combined was priceless and Underrated. You would effectively get 3 percent on everything you bought signature!!! Not only that when you used the ebay or paypal credit cards with 2x or 2% back paypal purchases …it counted as 3% total. It was god mine for money orders because they counted as purchase on the CC . I made thousands!! Bwahahahahaha…..well…all good things come to an end. Rip. I know many other cool methods to make money…secret though until they too are dead.

I was doing a test purchase every morning and then proceeding as normal. I finally got comfortable enough not to do the test purchase yesterday morning and had to suffer the indignity of an in person insufficient funds. Sad day.

I have not done any test purchase yet, my backup CC funding is still linked to my debit card. Dead is what aspect? Did they really unlinked or disabled your backup CC funding?

I made a $3K purchase on the 20th and 21st and has now posted to my extras account. The CC back up is still the ONLY back up for me so it’s possible they’re rolling it out slowly?

Did you try after the 21st? I was able to use backup source on 21st, but dead on 22nd. PayPal still showing CC as backup source, but it’s not going through

Mine was working fine until yesterday. Went to make a purchase this morning, declined. Though my PPEMC is still showing as backup funding, my only backup funding listed.

Bad news. I attempted a debit purchase today ( March 23rd) for $1.29 and it was declined even though I have my full credit line available in the cashback mastercard which still shows up a linked backup to the debit.

My PPEMC back up remains so I made a $100 test purchase on the 19th and charge went to CC back up; maybe I got grandfathered to old rule? Will keep an eye on this before making huge “purchases”.

Maybe PP decided to officially end it just for new signups while leaving us – the loyal customers alone 😉
