The standard Pepper points will be instantly available and the bonus Pepper points will be awarded on 10/20/24. You can see these deals in your messages tab or notifications tab; also, be sure that you should see the bonus reflected on the checkout screen. These deals end today and often sell out early.
The Pepper points system is confusing, so let’s give an example: Let’s say, for example, that Pepper is offering 10x on Amazon. If you buy $100 in Amazon gift cards, you’ll get 8,000 points instantly (4x) which is worth $4 toward your next purchase; that’s 4% back. In a few weeks, you’ll get an additional 12,000 points which is worth $6 and is the same as 6% back. Altogether, you’ll end up with 10x back will is the same as 10% back. It’s easier to just avoid thinking about the points totals and focus on the ‘x’ back since that is the same number as the % back you’ll be getting (1x = 1% back; 10x = 10% back).
Pepper will send out an email when the bonus points are awarded. And, if you update to the newest version of the app, you’ll see a ‘Points History’ tab which will clearly show which points have posted and which points are pending.
Our Verdict
Keep in mind that for most of these deals the bonus points won’t be available for a few weeks, and it’s not worth buying unless you can manage the risk of something going wrong with the bonus points posting a few weeks down the line. I’d recommend screenshotting and copying the gift card info immediately, and I’d also recommend using up the Pepper points quickly, since people have had issues logging in, etc. Also note that it is sometimes difficult to track down exactly which Pepper points are posting down the line.
Reports are that Amex Business Gold to earn 4x if it’s one of your top two categories as part of the Computer Software category. And it counts as Computer Software category for BofA Customized Cash Rewards cards for 3%/5.25% and for 1.5x on the Business Platinum card. And reports are that it counts as Online Shopping for BofA cards and Blue Cash card and ShopYourWay card and the legacy Citi AT&T card.
Note: While there is no limit to most of these deals, you might be limited in overall quantities that can be purchased from Pepper in a day. So you might only get $2,000 or some other number until the app stops you. It’s sometimes possible to increase limits by calling in and verifying. And you might be able to buy again the next day as your limits reset.
My thanks if you enter my signup code 584255 during the initial signup process. Those who signup with a referral code get double Pepper points on all purchases for 15 days. (If you do a bonus offer during the referral period, some people report there being a stack of the two deals with double points on the base and single points on the bonus. Others report only the base gets doubled.) Please no referral sharing in the comments below.
Missed the gamestop deal by a few minutes. Btw, thanks Chuck for highlighting this website as I got over $300 in cashback via your referral. Now just hoping those gift cards stay valid in the long haul as I certainly can’t use them all quickly.
Does anyone know if using the Discover It card will trigger this quarter’s 5% Amazon bonus? Seems like Chase and Fidelity CC’s categorize Pepper as software or personal.
Anyone else having this issue: I’m noticing on the merchants with promos, when I click to purchase a gift card, the Pepper system instead gives me a popup with the promo details. I literally can not figure out how to actually buy the gift card, it’s just the popup with no apparent way around it. Haven’t heard anyone else mention this so I’m probably missing something basic. Anyone?
on ios or android? any pop up i see can always be closed w the upper right corner X – in the past, sometimes the X wouldn’t load but I could still close them by clicking in that corner of the pop up. clicking in from merchant deals tab works fine and takes me directly to purchase (on ios). it may be worth updating the app if it’s some sort of bug from a previous version – maybe that will fix what you’re seeing?
I had a weird thing right after I signed up trying to buy a SAMS CLUB gift card. Wells Fargo says that the purchase was approved each time I tried it (I tried it 3 times), but then the merchant refunded the transaction. I got a call from Pepper today and they said it was on the bank side, so I don’t know who to believe. I then asked the Pepper representative if they issued their own Pepper Gift cards or if you actually got the merchant Gift card. She told me it was a Pepper Gift card that could be used with the particular merchant, which tells me if you use Pepper you better not keep Gift cards unused, because if they go under, you lose your money. Anyway @Chuck I used your referral code, but you’re probably not going to get anything from it because I can’t Pepper to work. Maybe BILT is blocking it somehow or they got some problem going on.
is this only for buying lowes gift card?
Yes, it’s a discount on a Lowe’s gift card and some other gift card brands
Is there a trick to not getting cards declined? Signed up yesterday to try to buy some AirBnB and it kept declining my card. I’m trying to hit my Chase Ink Preferred bonus a little faster.
I don’t know, maybe start with small amounts? When I started out months ago I did not have issues with the card, could be they got more security sensitive over time.
I attempted various denominations with three different cards (Visa and Amex) – $200, $100, $50, $25, $10. They all got declined! And now, they have my name, address and date of birth. LOL!
Apologies, Doc, but it seems you won’t receive my referral since I’m unable to complete a purchase! LOL
Same issue here, tried several cards and everything from $100 to $1000.
You can try calling in. It might take a while to connect, but eventually you’ll get a real human to talk to who can probably clear up the issue. I once left them a voicemail and got a call back many days later, other times I got through or got a reply faster.
Also maybe check if the card issuer is blocking it on their end, for some reason.
And thanks for signing up with my link.
I contacted them by phone, and they informed me it would take 48-72 hours to unblock the transaction issue. However, I tried again 2 hours after the call and the transactions went through. Thank you.
Amex biz gold also declining, even with a 5 dollar test purchase.
Had no issue with Chase, but it won’t accept my capital one venture card
Try using a VCC.
