Our Verdict

RadPad just announced they wouldn’t be processing rent payments anymore, so Plastiq is looking to capitalize and I always love it when companies do this with a promotion! They offered the same promotion last month, but only for Mastercard payments. Standard rate is 2.5%, so 0.75% saving with Mastercard (apparently standard rate for Mastercard is just 2%, so both are 0.25% savings) and 0.25% with American Express.

Nice thing about this promotion is that it also includes mortgage payments and not just rental payments. This is a nice and easy way to meet minimum spend requirements, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for generating points/miles/cashback unless you’re able to easily cover the fees. Plastiq also have a referral program, you can read more about that here and also share your links.

It’s been a while, but since RadPad has resurfaced I thought I would ask:

Does it make more sense to use PPBDC with RadPad now or with Plastiq?

Will it earn cashback with either website at this point?

My rent is about $2100. Please advise.

Hey Will,

Debit cards are 1%, does that mean it is 1% paying with PayPal debit card (Master Card)? Or the promo of 1.75%?

Paypal Business Debit Card is 1% fee, and you will be getting 1% back on beginning of each month for last month’s pinless purchases, that being said, a good way to liquidate Paypal My Cash loads without depositing to bank account. That also means you don’t need to be using a referral link for fee free points or to ask others to use your referral link.

The 1.75% is for credit cards only. For example, someone usually paying Citibank double cash card for a fee of 2.25-2.5% and the credit card gives back 2% but now with this promotion, s/he can even gain 0.25% by using the Double cash master card paying bills, also the bill is due in next statement period.

Should be noted that the PPBDC will stop earning 1% on October 19th for all pin and pinless debit purchases.

Do you have DP for this? I didn’t receive any emails from PayPal about this.

Forgot to mention that. Thanks for pointing out. I’ll test by loading funds to my Bluebird account on Nov.1 to see the result.

Confirmed PPBDC still earns 1% on loading into bluebird and serve

On my statement that just closed last week, a mortgage payment through Plastiq did, yes.

Your comment about mastercard payments normally being 2.5% is incorrect. It is 2% for mastercard and has been that way for a while.

Can I schedule a payment then switch to a different MC later? Hoping to PC my Citi AA card to a AT&T Access More card soon but might not have new card by 10/31…

I don’t think so. Their system locks the card that is used for scheduled the payment. 99 schedules maximum, just like what they advertise, your limit is your credit card limit and expiration date.

By the way, I didn’t know we can even product change any Citi card to ATT access more card. Can we?

I read their ToS/ToC and it explicitly states if you decide to change payment method or make ANY changes (increase or decrease payment amount) they will consider that as a request to cancel the payment plan and start a new one at current rates.

This is tricky for mortgage payments, as that rises and falls every year depending on taxes…………0.25% not worth the risk for me, considering I make 1% in savings. Might as well just sit on it……

Can you cancel after a few months if your situation changes (I.e. moved or refinance mortgage)? Would you still get the promo rates?

Yes, it schedules all the payments out, and you get charged 1.75% each time a payment posts. if you cancel future payments then they won’t come back and charge you the extra .25% after the fact.

Hey Will standard MC is actually 2% so with MC and Amex is both .25% savings not .75 for MC
