Every quarter we keep a list of credit card bonuses that people have been targeted for (make sure you add the offers you were targeted for in the comments) and our opinions of those offers. It’s the start of quarter one, 2015 so it’s time for another post. If you want to see what offers you’re targeted for, there is a full list of each card issuer and their pre-approval links here.
American Express
How to view your targeted American Express offers (link described in this post might no longer work, in which case you’ll need to use CardMatch).
Keep in mind that American Express personal cards you can only get the sign up bonus once, but with business cards you can get them multiple times.
- American Express Platinum: 100,000 MR points after $3,000 in spend within three months of account opening. Annual fee of $450 not waived. I haven’t seen any reports of anybody getting offered 150,000 points recently, so if you’re comfortable with the annual fee then this might be a good time to get this offer. Although it’s worth keeping in mind that if you apply late in the year it’s possible to get three $200 airline credits and only pay the annual fee once. Also keep in mind you can get a 100,000 point offer on the business card as well, simply by calling in.
- American Express Premier Rewards Gold: 50,000 MR points after $1,000 in spend within three months of account opening. Annual fee of $175 waived for the first year. This same sign up bonus is often made public, given that you can now get a 75,000 point offer on the business card I’d wait this one out.
- AmEx EveryDay Preferred: 30,000 MR points after spending $2,000 in spend within three months of account opening. Annual fee of $95 not waived. This is the highest I’ve seen this particular card, in the past it’s only been 25,000 points. Also a good card for manufacturing a bit of spend in grocery stores. The targeted bonuses have been continually going up, so it might be worth holding out. I’m also unsure if these offers come with a free year of Amazon prime or not, as they usually do.
With all of these offers, remember that your points won’t post in time to get in on the 40% Avios transfer bonus. Also remember you can apply for multiple charge cards in a day and American Express will combine into only one hard pull.
Final Thoughts
As always, this post will be regularly updated during Q1. Make sure you regularly check to see which offers you are targeted for and report your results in the comments section before.
Thanks Bill..! That was prompt.
Please keep up the good work.. Love it.!
No worries and thanks for calling me Bill. Reminds me of hanging out with my Dad’s friends as a youngster (and I mean that in a nice way).
Bill,
Great Blog.!
I am 23, just out of college and six months into my first job that pays quite well (six figures). I applied for the chase sapphire preferred and was rejected. Credit Karma shows my score in the low 600’s. What should I do.? I am very interested in this hobby.
I only have my bank debit card for now. What card or cards should I apply.?
Thanks
The CSP is a premium card and a score in the low 600’s is way too low. I’d recommend signing up for a starter credit card: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/starter-credit-cards-best-cards-for-people-with-no-credit-history/
If you can’t get approved for any of those, go for a good secured card instead: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/credit-cards/secured/best-secured-credit-card/
The 100k AMEX Business Platinum does not seem to work anymore. I called in twice and both times they won’t give me without the RSVP code. Does anyone have a RSVP code handy?
I’d suggest trying to keep calling in, people are still having success but it seems like they are cracking down a bit.
any chance AMEX will extend the offer to those that aren’t targeted?
Doubtful, others have reported no success but it’s worth a try.
