Radisson Rewards 2019 Category Changes (84 Increase In Price, 56 Decrease) Effective 3/1/19

Radisson Rewards has announced changes to hotels award categories for 2019. These new prices will go into effect on March 1st, 2019. Bookings made before this date are not affected, this means if a property is increasing in price you’ll want to book before March 1st and if it is decreasing in price you’ll want to book after. Some stats:

  • 84 properties are increasing in price
  • 56 properties are decreasing in price

Anyone remember several years back they gave 50k points for every night you stay? Turns out I had a 2 week work trip scheduled during that period, and I checked in and out every night on a new account. Years later I’m still trying to work my way through all those points.

I find Radison Rewards (Club Carlson) to be one of the most underrated Hotel programs and sometimes the best redemptions especially with all their decent Country Inns (think Holliday inn Express) for just 15K points and their Credit Cards gives you 5 points per $1.
Basically if you swipe 3K you get a free night, that is even better then Hyatts category 1 at 5K.
(Their Business card is the best with an 85K signup bonus, Gold status, a free night for each 10K spend (up to 3x) plus 40K points on Anniversarry for just $60 AF.

I hear you Abey — even as many in this space are still sore at Club Carlson/RR for ending its once legendary 2 for 1 program…. For years thereafter, the chain seemed to have been in free fall. (with so many of the better properties leaving the chain, or even more of the ratty ones being shut down)

Like you, we often would find great value in the category 15k CI&S places — but am quite annoyed to see far too many of them now moved to Cat3 28k spots. (all three in Richmond, VA, for example)

Do still earn the free night certs per spend on the credit card, but has been hard finding worthy US spots to use them at. (Favorite spots still: the aging ocean front Rad at Melbourne Fl and esp. the superb new CI&S gem at Kalispell, Montana… )

Good news: the Country Inn @ Prospect Heights, IL decreased from a Category 2 to a Category 1!

Bad news: that Country Inn is now closed!

Speaking of Category 1 Rads (9k), I laugh when I encounter sites hawking the CC/Rad credit card’s opening bonus as providing “up to 9 free nights!” (wowser, me oh my!) Except in keeping with “Highlander” for the past two years, “there can be only one” Cat 1 Rad anywhere in the US…. (Erlanger, Ky by golly)…. With these new changes, assuming they too don’t close, there may be more than one — even four (!) — adding the Tulsa & Lincoln airport locations, plus the Orlando Park Inn. (re. the latter, been there, done that… a “budget resort” to be sure. Yet for just 9k…. might be worthwhile to some, if expectations kept very low)
