Radpad Lowers Rent Payment Fee to 2.5%

We’ve written about racking up credit card spend by paying your rent with a credit or debit, see Complete List Of Options For Paying Your Rent With A Debit Or Credit Card. The best option for paying with a debit card is Radpad which is fee-free. For credit, the best was to pay with Plastiq for just a 2.5% fee, versus the 2.99% fee from Radpad.

More recently, Plastiq started a promotional offer of just 1.99% fee for Mastercard and Amex, while Visa remains at 2.5%. It’s quite possible that this 1.99% rate won’t last forever, but for now it’s available and it’s a great deal.

Radpad now lowered their credit card rate down to 2.5%, bringing it on par with the standard Plastiq rate.

Of course, for now Plastiq is a much better deal since they charge just 1.99%. It’s also convenient to use Plastiq since they allow lots of other bill payments as well so you can make all your bill payments from one place. (Both Plastiq and Radpad allow the use of gift cards as payment, such as Visa gift cards or Amex gift cards.)

Here’s why the new, lower Radpad rate may be useful:

  • Radpad allows payment with a Discover card, while Plastiq does not
  • Radpad allows payment with Apple Pay, while Plastiq does not
  • For Visa payments, Radpad and Plastiq have the same rate

Can I use my own mailing address and my landlord’s name (management company) for the rent payment?

I am actually a huge fan of RadPad and the service they offer. I use my PP debit MC to pay my rent fee free and I get back 1% on the transaction and any gains from buying mycash cards, there are also other ways to fund your PP debit MC for more cashback too.

Do you use PPMC to load your paypal account? How long have you been doing this successfully? I’m waiting for my PP debit card in the mail. I was planning on starting to do this with my rent but I read PP is a real dick about loading and then doing like one large debit purchase.

I thought you had to run it as credit in order to get cash back with the PayPal debit card?

FAQ:

“Can I pay my Mortgage, Utilities, Cable, Nanny, etc. with RadPad?

Unfortunately no you can’t. We’re only set up to process and pay verified rent payments. Please don’t set up a non-rent payment because it won’t be approved.”

So where’s the big benefit in using these services? Just another ideal option to help meet a min spend and/or earn some points opposed to paying rent with cash? Nothing huge right? Genuinely asking, just trying to understand. If someone is paying rent through Plastiq with a Chase CSP, is it still worth it to generate the UR points when having to take on the 2.5% fee? I’m trying to understand what the biggest benefit is with using these services, or is there not even a big benefit and the main point is that it helps people just meet spending at the small expense of ~2% extra?
