Our Verdict

You can’t use Rakuten gift cards for this promotion, but you can redeem it on gift cards they sell. They offer the following gift cards:

• $50 Xbox live (no longer working)
• $50 Apple iTunes for $54.50 (orders were cancelled last time)
• $50 PlayStation for $55 (from a third party seller so beaware)

Pretty crappy selection and it’s only really a $5 discount on the iTunes and PlayStation cards. There is a payments workshop datapoint for this earning 5x on Chase Ink Plus/Cash, it’s old though so I’m not sure if that’s still the case or not. Not sure if portals will track when using a promo code/purchasing gift cards but it’s worth a try. Mastercard Easy Savings also gives an extra 2% cash back at Rakuten. If anybody finds any good deals, let us know in the comments.
