Section “Free stock, expensive emails” https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2021-08-25/insiders-trade-in-outside-companies

Looks like free stock bonuses at discount brokerages might be going away. Apparently, part of the economics of it for Robinhood and co were to give away the $5-10 stock and then charge the company behind that stock ~25¢ to distribute quarterly shareholder reports. The SEC approved a rule change that fees for report distribution cannot be charged for stocks given away for free.

I had heard about it. Hopefully the ones leaving are those who are emancipated in the ways of the west and leave the crappy traditions behind and want to integrate. If these emigrants were the ones working with americans during the occupation, I would expect it.

Each country is managing its own ‘list’.

In theory: They get who they chose and it’s all good and fair.

In reality: There’s little border control in the Schengen area which is most of the EU, thus every EU country is pretty much forced to accept everyone that is on some other country’s list, unless it votes with its feet to leaave the hot mess behind like the UK just did.

IMHO, this is exactly how the whole migrant crisis came up in the EU.

Sounds quite similar to issues closer to home, but there’s no point trying to prove to fools that they were fooled 🙂

this website produces content that’s about as reliable as a reddit post

It’s a moral outrage piece without data. It relies on appeal to emotion and plea for pity as it’s main logical fallacies. ‘Immigrants are evil’ promotes ingroup feeling of pride and ‘think of the women and girls’ is a cliché rhetoric tactic.

– The main thrust is that there’s crime wave and follow it with about 10 anecdotes. That’s not data. There’s 2.5 million afghan refugees. There’s 25 rapes in Houston (pop 2.3 million) every week.

– from the National Review – always preaching the secular religion of conservatism with rhetorical tricks and logical fallacies.
– Author is married to an Pashtun Afghani who was educated in Lebanon before climbing the American political ranks.

Afghanis represent 0.04% of the Swedish population and are convicted of 5% of all rapes in the country despite lower rates of prosecution. or a higher than expected odds ratio of 125:1.

Hey where’d you go?

And black Americans are convicted disproportionately of drug offenses, despite not using at higher rates than whites do. It’s almost as if prosecution isn’t entirely race-neutral! But how could that be???

Because they actually DO use more drugs based on objective random sampling.

You think people of lower socioeconomic status as a class don’t have higher rates of substance abuse? It doesn’t even make sense at the most cursory glance. How could you believe that? You just have to think about for a minute.

That’s ignoring magnitude and quantity of priors.

Thinking is hard, branding anyone who holds a different opinion a “racist” is far easier.

Thanks for reply cowardly throw away account! Interesting reading but now I’m bummed my feeds are going be full of rape articles for awhile.

Swedish government hasn’t done ethnicity analysis of crimes since 2001. I’m assuming you took your stats from the 2018 episode of the TV show Uppdrag granskning that was aired during election season to stoke political opinions and hoard ratings. They claimed to collect the ethnicity of convicted rape cases from 2015-2018 and the BBC claimed that they said 45 of 853 were Afghani (so 45/853 = 5%)

Did the TV station show the data for their breathtaking claim for method/data validation and publishing? I couldn’t find anything. Is the claim holding up since Sweden added consent into their rape laws in 2018? BRÅ reported 75% more convictions by 2019 – so what’s the data now? If it’s a problem with Afghani – where’s the data for other countries?

I think how Sweden counts and maintains registry of rape makes it easy to generate fear pieces (read the Rape in Sweden Wikipedia summary.) In 2019 Malmo, where many refugees are settled, the newssite Sydsvenskan claimed that in 2019 1/3 of all rapes in the city were between 1 man and 1 victim (a relative) and it counted as 140 cases. That’s really easy to convert into a stat to exploit peoples dramatic instincts for fear, which gets the clicks and votes.

My personal opinion is Sweden is probably more accurate than all other countries, US included. So leading the world in sexual crimes is probably a result of broad laws and willingness to report. The other sides of the equation – prevention and justice – appears to need work but at least they’re making efforts, not excuses. So rather than blaming a single group of people one should try looking at the systems that make those kind of stats possible.

Thanks for responding. It’s a public TV station from an extremely liberal country. What university institution would do a prospective/retrospective study on assaults of refugees? Of course it would have to be manually tabulated.

I made a throwaway because I was going to relate a personal anecdote. It was me being homeless, in the United States, as a citizen, and the brutality of that even within the confines of a first world country. And the 500,000 people like me, where was my AirBnB? But the reality is these people won the lottery basically, got very lucky after extreme duress, and it’s irrelevant.

So…Minutes Suite Express is just a quiet place to sit then? Seems like worse value for customers paying the same price as regular Suites with beds.

The free 30 minutes for nursing mothers sounds nice.

The Minute Suites Express – remind me a little of BA Concorde Room lounges Cabanas at LHR for BA F pax. All they are missing is the in room shower and F&B service.
