Can someone actually confirm the policy of Chase where you get a prorated refund on CSR on a product change? Would really hate to wait until December to find out someone didn’t really know what they were talking about.

It’s ok, I know you’re referring to me. I can take it.

I think the travel credit then downgrade approach will not be tolerated by Chase (clawback of travel credit is likely) considering how much they are cracking down on other aspects of the Sapphire cards to discourage churners.

Then again, you never know until you try.

My personal view is that they’ve already addressed this by changing the travel credit reset from calendar year to anniversary year for new applicants. This one-time anomaly for early, educated card holders is just the cost of doing business.

The CSR travel credit works for airline gift card options too right?

+1 Wondering this myself both for CSR and AMEX platinum. Anyone can point to DPs? I can find a “what triggers the airline credit” post for Well Fargo Propel but not for these cards. DPs seem scattered and/or old.

I was approved for the CSR on December 1, 2016. Will I still get my $300 to use (my statement cuts on the 20th) prior to the end of 2017 (after my 1st year) and another credit in 2018? Or just one credit? I plan on keeping the card regardless.

Your 2018 credit will be available on 12/21/17 (day after your statement).

RE: the datapoint in the comments… I’ll be curious to see if the Chase adjusts AF refunds by the amount of the 2018 travel credit used. My gut tells me it’s an idle threat.

I mostly agree with you but didn’t want to take the chance. My wife downgraded her CSR to Freedom last month because we didn’t want to take the chance that the policy does change.

That’s totally understandable since her AF posted on 9/1. It’s all a matter of risk tolerance. With each passing month, that risk decreases. For those who’s AF post on 11/1 or later, there’s very little risk in trying.

So, anyone got a retention offer for the CSR? A DP post would be nice.

Will, is there any plan to set up a dedicated dp post? Or a maybe a repost? I assume a lot of us has AF posted.

I called CSR for reducing the annual fee or if they had any retention offers…. no luck 🙁

Can you give the gist of the “Dont downgrade your Chase Sapphire Reserve” post? The link isnt working

Link works fine for me. Basically it recommends to hold on to it until you get your 2018 travel credit, then downgrade so you get prorated AF refunded.

Wait until after your December statement posts. Then, your calendar-year $300 travel credit will reset. Use it quickly, and *then* downgrade. You will be refunded the pro-rated difference in the annual fee, which, from October to December, is about 25% of $450. (This is different than if you were to cancel, which does not give you a pro-rated refund after 30 days.)

This may vary by state, not sure, but in NY state if you cancel a Chase card within 30 days of fee posting you’ll get a full refund, if you cancel within 6 months you get a partial prorated refund.

AFAIK, only MA has such legislation. Everywhere else, if you cancel outside of 30 days, you get nothing.

then do you suggest to give back Chase the refund they gave me?
