- Hilton Honors Award Category Changes April 2017 – March 2018 + New Properties by LoyaltyLobby. Can’t imagine how long this took to put together, we are working on an automated solution to shame Hilton whenever a property increases in price as well. These types of posts are insanely important in trying to keep loyalty programs honest, especially Hilton & Delta. Hilton claimed they wanted to move this system so they could be flexible in pricing, leading to both increases and decreases in pricing for loyalty members. Lies lies lies. Hilton wanted to move to this system to increase award prices without any oversight.
- DEAL DEAD – The time when Safeway was giving out gas points for VGC by Miles Per Day. Always worth tryingnew things,
- Program devaluation – Wyndham Rewards GoFast copay now pegged to room rate by Loyalty Traveler. Points & cash rates used to be great at some Wyndham properties/room type, I guess that’s mostly gone now :(.
- EXCLUSIVE: Alex Cruz speaks about the upcoming changes to Avios and BAEC by Head For Points. This is basically about British Airways moving to a dynamic pricing and earning system. From my reading it seems they might move towards a more fixed value system like Southwest, rather than a “let’s hide all relevant information and keep consumers in the dark” system like Delta and Hilton.
doc. someone should do an OPED piece on where this game is going.
the end result is clear. ALL miles and points will be pegged at a sliding revenue based scale. everything is going to look like HH or B6 and WN miles which makes a lot of business sense. loyalty redemption will be calculated and capacity controlled. no longer giving outsized value.
HH is a good example of what the entire industry will soon look like. aspiration redemption will no longer be allowed due to their ridiculous point requirements.
u can blame the popularity of the game for this shift. “free” vacation will never last in any universe we live in. it just doesnt make longterm sense for businesses.
this will take several more years, but this is a race to zero.
I hope more companies go the Southwest route rather than HH
I’ve never tried for British status, their website is stuck in 2008, and yes the fuel surcharges suck which eliminates a lot of options.
But lets hope they keep the distance based scheme for Avios! It’s nice to have at least 1 major currency that keeps it distance based and provides a variant value-proposition. which is huge for domestic/Hawaii AA/AS, as well as manageable-distanced-international class flights on JL/BA/AA.
1st/Biz class can sometimes be a bargain too when you factour in AMEX bonuses and their outsized shopping portal.
This Wyndham change is a killer for me. I looked at some sample Go Fast awards and the price is way higher. I use about 15 Go Fast nights each year, this is gonna hurt.
Agreed, this’ll change my booking behavior substantially. Massive devaluation of the program.
Anything to that British Airways can do change Avios would be the better. With Fuel Surcharges the same as the price of tickets for award flight what is the point of even having their program?
For the partner distance based awards.
An airline that makes you use their points on partners seems like a pretty bad program. And I read to use domestic American Airlines flights but I couldn’t find any availability for the flights I wanted with Avios but could find them using American Airline miles. I ended up using my Avios booking a hotel for .6 cent a Avios. So I guess Avios aren’t worthless just worth .6 cents each.
