- ‘A very expensive vacation’: End-of-season storm strands hundreds of Sun Country passengers by Star Tribune. Ouch.
- How to Navigate the Complicated World of Credit Card Points by NY Times. When I started this blog I never thought it would be mentioned in the New York times. I know I’m biased but this is also one of the best researched pieces I’ve seen.
- Allegiant Air: The budget airline flying under the radar by CBS News. Does not sound good a all.
- Uber expands settlement with FTC related to cyberattack by Reuters. Is this real life? Uber failed to properly secure personal data, they then paid attackers off and didn’t close the incident for a full year. This blows my mind. Data will continue to be breached at an alarming rate because the penalties for not properly securing this data are approximately 0. Keep in mind they are expanding the settlement they reached with the FTC for a 2014 data breach incident. I’m not sure I can express how stupid this is. This can’t be real life.
the reason why the NYT article is decent is because its written by a churner. nobody should be surprised. other articles are written by journalist doing research on a topic they don’t even understand. honestly, i am just happy he didnt create an online course for churning and MSing like other players have and advertising their courses online to sell access to their private videos. SMH…
as for the bullshit Sun Country circus, people need to boycott that airline and react the same way people do when a white cop kills an unarmed black dude. SC response to the situation was absolute horseshit. nobody should be using such an airline anyway. same reason why i will never fly spirit fingers or Air Koryo. also, i hope those passengers now understand the importance of having crazy awesome travel insurance via CC or 3rd party private contract.
i will also never fly Allegiant Air. fuck that. all those airlines are cheap AF. but its just sad to hear about WN today though. best budget airline IMHO. sucks to hear about an engine blowup then window blowup from shrapnel then a woman got ejected with her body halfway out the window at 35,000 ft. no way u can survive that. sad.
Congrats DoC! I think the community of DoC readers that Will, Chuck and others, have created will only grow and only make the blog better because a lot of times it’s the readers’ datapoints that help break a story or confirm a rumor. But it takes excellent writing, leadership, instincts, timing, the tedious sifting through endless internet and reddit posts to bring it all together the way that DoC does, so well done DoC! Keep up the great work and I’ll do my part too!
100%, without the readers this site is nothing. Blogging now compared to even last year is so much easier just due to how willing readers are to help me and each other on the site.
Congrats DoC, getting a shoutout in the NYTimes. You deserve it!
the allegiant story was a pure HATCHET job. Facts twisted and outdated. 60 minutes has become more like the national Enquirer
Congrats Doc on the referral in the NYT. Well deserved. Your site is the first one I scan in the morning and then the Frequent Miler daily email. All the others are a distant third IMAO.
Congratulations DoC on a very well deserved recognition.
Awesome on the shout out from Lucas! I am biased too, but the article is great bc it’s written by Lucas! He’s a great person to follow on social media btw. His Eater youtube series is great and worth checking out as well if you’re into food. That’s how I first found out about him. Good to know he is into miles and points too. He always knows the best places to eat – the real food, not the fancy michelin star $500 meals food that no one can afford.
Oooh, I do love food so going to watch this. For others interested: https://www.eater.com/authors/lucas-peterson
You the man Will!
Well deserved recognition, your body of work is the encyclopedia for the hobby. Unmatched talent and work ethic!
I of course am completely unbiased … but even if there was a hint of bias, your work is just undeniably good.
Thanks Don, looking forward to your upcoming posts 😉
congratulations! well deserved, always with the reader in mind!
Congrats on the NYT article, glad to see it was more informative and focused on point values than focused on amassing via churning.
Ouch that snowed out flight from Cabo sure hope that people used a card with good trip insurance, I do wonder how that would shake out with the circumstances.
