[Rumor] USAA Limitless 2.5% Cashback Card To Be Released Nationwide September 17th & New Ways To Qualify For 2.5% Rate

USAA offers the limitless credit card giving 2.5% cash back on all purchases when you receive a direct deposit of $1,000 or more. Currently it’s available in the following states: AL, AR, AZ, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, MD, MI, MN, MT, ND, NM, NV, NY, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX and WA. myFICO user YupYup413 was told by a USAA insurance representative that the following changes would be made the week of September 17th:

  • Card will be available nationwide
  • There will be additional ways to qualify for the 2.5% cash back rate:
    • Receive a direct deposit of $1,000 or more (current requirement)
    • Receive $2,000 total deposits of any size
    • Average daily balance of an unknown amount
    • Having insurance and some brokerage products.

Obviously you still need to be eligible for USAA membership to become a cardholder. Apparently partial members in the qualifying states are able to apply for the card as well and I suspect this will be nationwide if these changes are real. I haven’t been able to confirm or deny this information is accurate by USAA was steadily adding states until March of this year so I’d expect them to either open it up nationwide or discontinue the card if it wasn’t making financial sense for them. 2.5% cash back with no annual fee or foreign transaction fee is a game changer and in my opinion the best card in the market for every day spend, I wish more card issuers would offer higher cash back rates with a deposit account relationship. If you want to know more about USAA cards I’d recommend reading this.

Yup, looks like they cut the following states: CT, FL, HI, IL, MD, MN, ND, NV, and RI. So much for the rumor 🙁

what do we think about why they are cutting states from the pilot?? does that mean they’re probably not releasing it nationally anymore?

I still see the same list as before too, but it appears the card is no longer available in Minnesota either. Very frustrating since I can see MN listed but still can’t have the card!

I wonder if their rollout is failing in some way if they’re pulling back. Maybe it was more popular than they anticipated? Or less??

This card is not available to new applicants in Illinois. It was, but not anymore. Info from USAA phone rep.

Looks like they pulled availability from 9 states, including Illinois.

Has USAA actually dropped some states from the Limitless rollout? I’m only seeing 19 states in the list now. Formerly there were 28. WTH?

That’s all for a great 2.5% card? I am joining the army! Be all you can be.

Zero affiliation with the arm forces. I may know someone who used to serve in Vietnam.

What’s the easiest way to be eligible for this USAA product? 🙂

1. Join the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, including Reserves or National Guard; or
2. Marry, or be already married to, a veteran or currently serving military member; or
3. Get a same-sex-or-opposite-sex friend to join the military (or already be a veteran, for instance your Vietnam vet acquaintance) and also marry you and open an account; or
3. Get one of your parents to join the military and also open an account.
Any of those should easily qualify you for USAA membership.
(Disclaimer: Marriage may entail unforeseen long-term financial and emotional consequences.)

Don’t need to be active duty. Having a relationship with a civilian in the military qualifies you as well.

There is no such thing as “civilian in the military,” if you’re in the military you are not a civilian by definition. You may be thinking of civilian DoD employees, however they absolutely do not qualify.

Eligibility:

Active, retired and honorably separated officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. military.
Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
Adult children of USAA members who have or had a USAA auto or property insurance policy.1
Widows and widowers of USAA members who have or had a USAA auto or property insurance policy.

1 Children must be 18 years or older to be eligible for USAA membership and purchase products in their own name. Children under the age of 18 can be listed as family members on their eligible parents’ auto policies.

Former Dependents

For USAA P&C Group membership eligibility purposes, a former dependent is an adult, or otherwise emancipated, biological or adopted child, stepchild, legal ward or an unremarried widow, widower, or former spouse of a USAA P&C Group member. USAA uses Department of Defense definition criteria of dependent as a person eligible for dependent military benefits.
