The Offer

Direct Link to offer (login required) | Another link

  • Safeway Just4U has a digital coupon to get $10 off instantly when you buy $100 or more in Visa gift cards.

The Safeway deals are usually at Von’s, Albertson’s, Randall’s, Tom Thumb, Acme, Shaw’s, and Jewel too.

The Fine Print

  • Limit 1 per household, one time use
  • Valid through January 2, 2021

Our Verdict

This version will typically work on variable-load cards and on Everywhere cards. Make sure to save the offer ASAP, as you usually can’t save it up until the deadline (e.g they’ll probably pull earlier). You won’t earn fuel points on Visa gift card deals.  Make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases.

Use CashApp card 10% boost on Grocery Stores. If you have multiple in your house (e.g. spouse) do split payment.

$154.05 value (variable load card)
+$5.95 fee
= $160
-$10 promo
=$150
$75 on one cash app card
$75 on second cash app card
-$7.50 boost (10% boost, max $7.50)
-$7.50 boost
= $135 = 12.4% discount off $154.05

So apparently, if you are splitting payment among 2 CashApp cards, the best rate is actually if you just get $100.

$100 + 5.95 – 10 = $95.95
-$7.50 (10% of $75)
-$2.10 (10% of $20.95)
= $86.36 = 13.73% discount

Whereas going the full $7.50 on each card, buying $150 total, as mentioned above, gets you 12.4% discount. Doh!

Nice stack with 10% grocery cash app boost. Surprised to see I got charged tax for the purchase fee.

Probably wait until next year to stack with Discover 5%?

If I buy this with my Amex plat (10x points on grocery), mixed in with a few random grocery items, do you think it’d be clawed back?

I’ve been buying from Safeway and don’t see any L3 data yet, not sure if that means its not there though

A one time offer probably not. If you are setting up multiple Safeway accounts to use the offer or are purchasing multiple VGC’s there certainly will be more scrutiny from Amex RAT team where you could be clawed back

Are these cards in-store only? I do not see Visa Egift cards on their web site thought i was able to save the offer.

Is the 3 tax payer website refreshing their limits on Jan 01, 2021? I have run out of the tax payment chance for this quarter?

Form 1040ES Estimated Tax – Tax Year 2019: 01/01/20 – 02/01/20, 7 AM ET
Form 1040ES Estimated Tax – Tax Year 2020: 1st Quarter 03/01/20 – 05/15/20, 2nd Quarter 05/15/20 – 07/15/20, 3rd Quarter 07/15/20 – 10/15/20, 4th Quarter 10/15/20 – 01/01/21, 7 AM ET

I found this on Pay 1040 FAQs, sounds like the 01/01/21 – 02/01/21 would be a new cycle.

Buy with Freedom Flex anytime, or with DISC 1/1-1/2, or split the payment 1/1-1/2.

If you have run out of the 6 payments for 4th quarter of 2020, would you be able to make another 6 payments during 1/1/21 – 2/1/21?
