The Offer

Direct Link to offer (login required.)

Check your Safeway Just4U for a digital coupon to get:

  • $15 off when you buy two $100 Visa gift cards.
  • $10 off when you buy two $50 Visa gift cards

The Safeway deals are usually at Von’s, Albertson’s, Randall’s, Tom Thumb, Acme, Shaw’s, and Jewel too.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 2/26/19

Our Verdict

Remember to save the offer first to your card before use. You won’t get fuel points on Visa/MC gift cards. Make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases. In the past this has not worked on variable load cards. Hopefully this one shows up fine for readers this time.

I think the deal’s over now. Not showing up in any new accounts.

Well, the e-coupon is valid thru 2/26 so if you clipped it already, you can still use it.

Just to be clear, the deal isn’t showing up in any new dummy accounts, where as before the 21st it showed in 4 that I made. Deal’s not offered anymore for new accounts, or at least not locally.

Does anyone have a secret on how to use these (and other VGC) at Verizon (FiOS, not Wireless)? Verizon keeps rejecting the payment, both on the website and app.

I have the same problem with these at Plastiq now.

Someone already said that they don’t work at Plastiq. I don’t understand why I can’t get any gift card to work with Verizon. In the Payments Workshop thread someone said I should try adding the card before using it for a payment but that still didn’t work. For now, I’m paying my dentist with them.

BTW I bought 2x$50 today on an account I hadn’t used that J4U on and got the standard 2x points (200). Turned those 2 rewards into a $3 produce discount.

There is a new Acme (maybe others) Just4U offer (valid thru 3/2, unlimited uses) for 8x points on the purchase of a Happy gift card (the multi-brand cards), That means that with just a $25 purchase, you’d get 2 rewards, which can be redeemed for free items or $ off your future purchase. I’ve never purchased these before. Other than the limited stores where each can be redeemed, are there any downsides to buying them?

So can I buy a money order with these at Walmart?

Has anyone tried buying $200 or greater on VGC, instead of $100 fixed and still got the discount OR It’s fixed 100

There are a couple DPs in this thread that say variable do not work.

I got 400 reward points for buying 2 x $100 at Acme = $5 off any purchase (or a bunch of other things). I wasn’t expecting that, was happy making a few bucks and getting 5% back with Discover!

What stores can we auto drain $100 vgc? Does safeway autodrain vgc or does the cashier need to enter the amount on the register?

Auto-draining did not work at Bed Bath & Beyond, Office Depot, Sam’s Club, Trader Joe’s, and Walmart. Auto-draining worked at Safeway and a list of others. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/payments-workshop/

Hi, does variable loading visa card works for this promotion? I mean I load 100 for the variable visa. My store don’t have fixed 100 visa card.

I got a manager to let me get a variable load and they manually took off the discount for the $100 cards since I couldn’t get the regular cards because they were sold out…

Does this apply to variable cards where you can specify the amount?

where do you check this reward points?

NBG
NBG (@guest_721743)

It shows in the receipt also in the app under rewards section. It says how much rewards available. Each 100 pt is 1 reward.

Sadly not for me (Albertsons on 2/14). 0 Reward points. 🙁

Worked for 2x pts last time they had this exact deal (Dec?) at same Albertsons, so a bit bummed…

Any idea what might have triggered it for you?
Assume you bought the $100 fixed Visa in golden packaging?

NBG
NBG (@guest_722696)
February 15, 2019 10:10

Yes, the golden packaging for $100 and silver for $50. I bought 5 times and all except 1 gave 600 Pts. The one off was 200 pts. All of this from ACME in PA.

I also got the 2x at Acme in NY so I have 400 points. That’s worth $5 off any order, or $7 off any meat. Or you can use it for other stuff.

NBG
NBG (@guest_722847)
February 15, 2019 14:32

Today when i tried again, i got 400 pts instead of 600. One thing i noticed is my ACME has a green round sticker on each GC holder. Some VGC’s had it and some didn’t. I wonder if that plays any role. In my today’s buy, the 100 VGC had the green dot and the 50 didnt. Thus i got 2X on hundred?. Going to go back and see if the $500 has the dot.

MisterBill
MisterBill (@guest_722849)
February 15, 2019 14:36

So you bought 2x$50 and 2x$100 and only got 400 points? I only bought the $100 cards and got 400. No dot on my packages.

NBG
NBG (@guest_722853)
February 15, 2019 14:38

Yes. 2×100+2×50. The dot (its a round sticker the size of 25c) is not on the package. But on the holder pin (the place where all the GC are stacked in the shelf). Yday i got only 200 pts when i did the same (didn’t pay attn to the dot). I have 1 more run left. So going to try all dot and see if i get 600 pts.

BTW you should check your e-coupons before going back. I got a bunch of $1 off any item e-coupons for bakery, produce, bath tissue and O Organics.

Also, if you do Checkout 51, they have $4 back on purchase of Yes Peas, limit 5. The $1 produce e-coupon applies to it.

One more tip – its been well so far. If u want to cash out the rewards without actually buying. You can add the reward to your list in the app and go and buy a gummy for example. The register will spit the balance money to customer. Best to test this with small reward and self checkout.

MisterBill
MisterBill (@guest_723192)

The register will allow you to go negative and refund the difference? That’s amazing!

PS not sure how you’d buy a gummy but you could certainly purchase a single banana.

FYI, I bought 2×100 and 2×50 on a different account and got 600 points. Didn’t pay attention to a sticker on the label.
