Samsung Pay Launches Debit Card – ‘Samsung Pay Cash’

Update 10/20/19: First 30,000 people that sign up get a $5 bonus. You can also load it with a credit card with a 3% fee or 25¢ on debit cards.

Samsung Pay has announced that they will be offering consumers the ability to apply for and receive a debit card called ‘Samsung Pay Cash’, this will run on the Mastercard network and be accepted anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Samsung Pay is a mobile wallet and the premise is that it’s accepted everywhere that a traditional debit/credit card is accepted, so I’m not really sure what the purpose of the new debit card actually is.

I guess the S Pay card could come into use for those areas where the NFC/MST feature doesn’t work well on the card reader. Looking at the press release, they do offer a $5 signup bonus to get started.

My understanding is that there is no physical card, it’s only in the Samsung Pay app. It does also give you a full “virtual account number” that you can use for online purchases (and in person if it’s one of the few places that can type in CC numbers).

If it can be loaded from prepaid debit cards, it would have value (combine a bunch of VGC / MCGC and do a combined IRS payment with only a single debit card transaction fee). But I saw a description that suggested it can only be funded with cards that be added to the Samsung Pay wallet.

Does anyone know if verifying your identity is a credit pull?

You can open a card without verifying your identity but they want your SSN to unlock every feature

Yes but its a soft pull. If you are concerned always look for language that says “this will not affect you score”. If it does not say that its a hard pull.

Very much doubt it, it’s just a simple bank debit card.

ITS NOT A CREDIT PULL.

I can’t even signup. I try to click the “Get Card” button in the app, but it does nothing.

You can only load it via Debit or Credit Cards that are added in Samsung Pay. And they charge fees to load it. So unless they offer an incentive to use their debit, I don’t see why anyone would bother vs just using the cards you already have added directly.

Yeah. that really defeat the purpose of the cash card, if they are charging the fees for debit card loads. How are we suppose to load cash to that card with no fees then?

Wow it seems like no one read the actual samsung article. The card which says is it right in the name is so you don’t have to carry cash, basically the same as a debit card. This is the same thing google wallet tried to do. Some uses also include giving it to your kids so they don’t spend all the money in the bank account, if your phone dies and you need to pay, easy way to budget and probably more. If it succeeds or not depends on how many people are smart enough to figure out a use for it.

It has a routing and an account number too.

When I try to register it redirects to chrome, does a few other redirects and then ends in play store on samsung pay app (which is set up and works). Any idea how to get it registered?

Make sure all the apps are updated to latest version.

Try going to Settings then Apps and select Chrome — look for “set as default” and clear that. Then select Samsung Pay and clear default on that — below that select “go to supported URLs” and pick “in this app”

You can also “Force Stop” Chrome/Sam Pay/Sam Pay Framework and clear only the cache on each then restart your phone

Thanks, unfortunately it didn’t work.

This has so much potential for people with 4% everything for Capital One Savor! With routing number and all, we can load it back to a bank account right?

I’d also be interested in knowing if it’s possible to drain funds to a bank account.

I have a Galaxy phone model from overseas.. but I’m from the U.S and a U.S citizen. Any way I can avail this promo?

Phone model has to have Samsung Pay available in the country the phone is originally from — most international models don’t support it. You can try installing Samsung Pay app from Google Play or Samsung app store — it’ll install only if the model supports it

For entering the date of birth, the app only lets me scroll through each month, one at a time (have to go through every month that I have been alive). Any way around this?
