Samsung Pay To Add New Cashback Feature

Samsung has announced a new feature for Samsung Pay users, they will be offering cash back at select merchants. Basically it works like other card linked programs where they will have offers from selected retailers and merchants offering a percentage back on their purchases (e.g 5% back at X retailer).

It’ll be interesting to see if this is Samsung’s own program, or if they are white labeling one of the many card linked programs already available. In recent times the value proposition of using Samsung Pay has diminished, they first devalued how much the points from their loyalty program were worth and they then also reduced the amounts of points you earned by half. It’s hard to comment on how useful this new cash back feature will be without knowing what offers they will have and if it’s their own program that’s stackable with other card linked programs or simply a rebranding of something that already exists.

Before the 2018 devaluations, I was going to replace my S8+ with a S9+ and give my S8+ my SO, I also was going to add a Gear watch a big part of my motivation was SP, I will still get the S9+ because of the Tmobile Military discount for vets and AD. But not the watch. Was a hardcore Samsung fan for years, but recent Samsung appliances have dropped in quality and a big uptick in poor reviews on Samsung warranty with household appliances.

This doesn’t look like a card link program, but a plain online cash back portal. All the retailers listed are only for online cash back , not in store. And u wont get cash back for gift card purchases and we can’t stack with other portals . Big disappointment.

At least for the Walmart cash back offer, one has to click through the link from within Samsung Pay. From that, my understanding is that it is card number based, rather it is click based.

Later this month they’re going to be selling Samsung Reward Points too. Now people will be able to get that $50 Rewards Visa if they’re like me and bank all of their points for the whole year and hit the 50 transactions cap per month.

“What’s more, starting on later this month, consumers will be able to purchase Samsung Rewards points, similar to the way airline consumers can purchase extra miles in order to build up enough to kick start their next adventure.”

I have multiple problems with Samsung pay. First, transactions outside of 5. minutes winding are still counted as single transaction. Second, some transactions don’t generate the rewards. I sent them screen capture and they say give it some time and then call some 800 #. Are?

They are always punctual but completely useless.

Wow, I’m presently seeing a 5% off Walmart purchases. Combine that with the US Bank for a 9.5% back total. Not bad.

I thought (Apple|Google|Samsung) Pay are all incompatible with card-linked programs, because your real card number doesn’t get through the merchant?

Not true, at least for some programs. Ebates in-store CB has always tracked for me when I link only the underlying card to the Ebates offer but use SP to pay in-store (thus the store only sees the virtual card).

I’ll have to give Samsung Pay another shot with Ebates… when I used them together for an in-store purchase back in August it didn’t track.

Possibly they worked out the issue, though.
