ShopDiscover is Discover’s cash back shopping portal, whilst your only supposed to be able to use Discover cards (such as the Discover it) for the shopping portal it’s possible to use other credit cards and still get cash back. Often the rates are higher on ShopDiscover than other public cashback portals such as topcashback which is why I was sad to see the following message on the ShopDiscover homepage:
Thankfully the cash back portal is sticking around, it’s just being rebranded to be a part of Discover Deals. Discover Deals is similar to American Express sync offers where you can receive a statement credit for making purchases at select retailers. Hopefully this move by Discover indicates that they will be more competitive in this space in the near future. I’d love to see more money making deals from Discover Deals, just like we do with American Express.
It sounds like Discover Execs are trying to figure out while less people are using their portal. Because the Deals are nothing like they used to be! I don’t even log into discover website anymore. Portal Bonuses and gift card purchases with points are nothing special compared to what they used to offer.
Glad the portal is sticking around though. Hopefully they’ll offer some better offers to promote it.
@Krista B Discover Deals shut down last year. The only real benefit left with Discover now is the 5% categories on the IT cards and the occasional high discount gift card purchase with points.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Discover in January. Any data points on people having more than 1 Discover It Credit Card?
Seen reports of two, but those people had the Discover more, applied for the it and then product changed to the it. I’ll probably try a second application sometime in 2015, $150 bonus + an extra 1.5k a quarter in 5% categories is worth it IMO.
If you do attempt the app for the 2nd Discover card plz plz plz let us know! Ive been itching to do so myself for the same reasons but not sure yet if I want to risk the hard pull when it doesn’t seem too promising.
Of course.
Of course, will do.
Similar data point: applied for It card June 2013 while holding the More card (held forever) and the Miles card (9 months). Was told by phone rep only two Discover cards allowed per person. Secure message rep said same. Both suggested I could convert the Miles card to the It card. I was still getting bonus ($x/12 mo) on the Miles, so didn’t convert. Holding More and It would give SD/DD cash back and 5% categories on each. Might convert after I use the Miles’ miles.
