Our Verdict

Sinemia makes changes too often (e.g processing fees, removal of physical cards) for me to have any sort of faith in them. I personally won’t be buying any gift cards, but I guess if you’re paying month to month then buying a small amount might make sense. Just keep in mind everything seems to be subject to change with zero notice and existing members are usually not grandfathered in.

I’ll toss in my data point that they may be running out of cash or artificially limiting amount of tickets sold on certain days. A theater that has always worked fine had a card declined a couple time last Saturday and again this Saturday (during prime movie time) BUT for a Sunday showing when I purchased tickets early Sunday morning it worked fine. I’ll try buying tickets for this Friday or Saturday night tonight or tomorrow and see if I can avoid a decline on the “popular days”.

As is, I’ve already gone past my break even point so any movies pass this are gravy 😛

I bought 2 large gift cards on Black Friday and cannot add them to my account no matter what I try. Nor am I able to use the $10 in my “Sinemia Wallet” from a referral I made. Sinemia has not responded to any of my numerous inquiries via their website, Facebook, or Twitter. I am going to initiate a chargeback with Chase and I recommend everyone not a member forget Sinemia ever existed. They are terrible – either profoundly incompetent or deliberately fraudulent. Don’t get suckered.

Stay away! We have had nothing but problems. We couldn’t get it to work at all for two months and we’ve received no response despite multiple inquiries about extending it for the two months we missed. It still doesn’t work every time we try to use it even now. I would never get Moviepass because they didn’t service our favorite Dine-In theater. I only got Sinemia because they did but they deleted that theater sometime in the two months when Sinemia didn’t work at all for us. I don’t even need to mention the new extra fees because everybody else has.

Don’t trust these bas… ss. They change the rules and you go through hell trying to get a refund. Their app does NOT work to get you in the movie. Totally CRAP.

Knowing Sinemia’s history and bad tech, I only purchased a $10 card for $7 since I was going to buy tickets and thought I would test first. Tl; dr: doesn’t work at all for existing subs.

Sinemia is up to their deceiving shenanigans. It states throughout the FAQs that you can use these for any Sinemia fees or monthly charges. However, there is nowhere on the app or website to enter a GC code. I finally found an FAQ about how to redeem – the answer is to use the GC code at checkout on the app. Problem is… there is no checkout at any point in the ticket purchasing process on the Sinemia app. All associated fees are automatically charged to your CC on file. As far as I know, the only areas to enter a redemption code are opening a new account or upgrading your current plan. If these don’t apply to you, do not buy.

@DOC, highly recommend you strongly advise people not to buy these.

Don’t do it. Sinemia sucks.

I only decided to try Sinemia a few months ago because there had been so many posts here at DoC about it and they didn’t have the kind of strong warning language that this post has.

This is probably the purchase I most regret in the past few years. I’m glad to see this post is basically advising against the service.
