[Source] All US Bank Flexperks Cards To Be Discontinued By March 30, Includes Business Cards

Update 3/23/20: Effective 3/30/20, Business Flexperks and Business Select Rewards are discontinued as well. No replacements are known, as of yet. Again, existing customers should see no change and will continue to be serviced.

Original Post:

A source tells us that a memo was sent out to US Bank employees with the information that all three US Bank Flexperks cards will be discontinued for new applications on March 9, 2020. Existing cardholders will see no changes, and will continue to be serviced.

Effective March 9th, U.S. Bank will no longer accept applications for:
  1. U.S. Bank Flexperks Travel Visa (Consumer).
  2. U.S. Bank Flexperks Select+ American Express.
  3. The Gold Flexperks will apparently be staying around for a bit longer.
  4. The U.S. Bank Cash 365 American Express will be discontinued as well.

Currently, these cards are still available for signup.

The information in this post has not been confirmed with US Bank, but the source seems reliable.

That’s the biggest overreaction to the Coronavirus yet! Geez – just because you always used to do an Olympics promotion and Japan has been considering cancelling the Olympics, no need to cancel your entire Flexperks card portfolio! I miss those Olympics bonuses…

Based on the new Altitude cards coming out I think they were already considering this plan anyway regardless of COVID-19.

guess its time to product change to cash+

They don’t let me to pc from Flexperks Travel to Cash+ last month so I cancelled it.

They all are personal cards, right?

FlexPerks Gold American Express is not in Flexperks Cards family but Cash 365 is, seriously?

So if you still have one like the Flexperks Select + card, you still keep it. Does it still count as an existing US bank relationship to get the US Bank Cash Plus card later on?

Lrdx

You don’t need an existing relationship for the Cash+..
That’s for the Altitude Reserve.

I might have meant the Altitude Reserve.

It seems like USBank is not happy with their current in house rewards program if all of the FlexPerks cards are being discontinued. Not completely surprising since the cards are not rewarding at all.

Also, I just recently took a survey about changes to the Altitude Reserve card including a change in annual fee, different earn rates on spend, different benefits, and a change in valuation of points redemptions. The redesigned card if offered is not compelling in my opinion.

Can you elaborate on some of the options?

Ugh, I hope not on the AR. If they change, I hope I get another year out of it – my AF is due in a month or so. That was shaping up to be the only Ultra Premium card I kept as a keeper. My CNB Crystal is going away when the AF comes due, the Chase Sapphire Reserve may not be worth it any more, and the Hilton Aspire is hard for me to justify after the first year bonus. Maybe I will just have to cycle all the Ultra Premium cards instead of keeping any … which I probably should be doing for the SUBs anyway.

With Amex nerfing return and purchase protections, the Altitude Reserve was looking nice in terms of net AF as a place to get those benefits. And if you start cycling cards you’ll lose any extended warranty since you’re closing the associated account.

Interesting. I called last week to cancel the Flexperks Visa after the annual fee posted and was instantly offered a 5000-point retention bonus with no requirements.

I called last Thursday for the same reason and was offered a product change to Cash+. Got a retention bonus last year. I’m fine with a no-annual-fee US Bank credit card.

Interesting. P1&P2 have 2 FlexPerks Travel Visa coming up to 1 year, and we need to figure out what to do, not wanting AF, or keeping these cards. What number do you call? (Also have FlexPoints to use, but can hopefully transfer them to the newer FlexPerks Gold that P2 has.)

The Value Traveler

with the option to use 3900 Flexperks points for the AF, why not keep it?

SamL
SamL

The card is useless. Why pay AF?

Because it’s better to use a card that earns point that you can turn into real value instead of getting no actual value turning them into paying an annual fee.

The one on the credit card. I also have the altitude reserve credit card and a U.S. Bank checking account.

hmmm. you’re lucky. i called to cancel the visa card. the only option for me is to cancel.

Same for me. Called back in September and they offered nothing. Now I did get it waived the previous two years. (With no spend.) Guess my luck ran out.

Chuck, could you clarify. The list has 2 of 3 FlexPerks and 1 cash back card, whereas the headline suggests it’s all 3 FlexPerks cards that are going.

How hard is it to get approved for these cards at lol/24?

So the rumors are true. I am an employee as well… Gold Flexperks will be going away as well (no internal news on biz) but not for a bit because of the contract Flexperks and US Bank have. There are also 2 new cards coming out at the end of March with the altitude moniker (the moniker has not been confirmed internally yet) at various AF, more information coming mid-month. Also the Leverage and Altitude Reserve both now earn 5x points on prepaid hotel and car reservations booked through the Rewards Travel Center as of 3/1/20.

Would we probably need a prior account to get these? Really wanted the AR, don’t have any account with them yet. At $400 i loved the $325 credit and 12 Wifi passes. Well worth it for me.

To your knowledge would you recommend waiting to get these new Altitude cards or hop on the current Flexperks cards while they’re still available? If you don’t know that is an ok answer as well

TJ
TJ

They haven’t given us any information on the changes except the moniker. Also no idea if the Reserve will have any changes or additions other than the 5x that started on 3/1. Information was released to all but branches until a few days ago. More should be known around the 9th. Cash 365 and select+ aren’t worth getting but the flexperks visa has a good redemption of 9k flex points for an executive Costco membership ($120) Other than the 1.5¢/pt value when booking through the portal. No news on prior relationship needed but with personal loan soon going external (rename of old premier loan) I would imagine not but time will tell.

Is the Altitude Reserve getting an annual fee increase for those two earning changes? I wouldn’t be that excited over those categories, and would rather have a dining earning bonus instead on the card

They planning to release 2 new cards earning Altitude points 😉

Chuck just to confirm -are you saying that these cards are also likely to be discontinued?

FlexPerks Gold American Express,
FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature,
FlexPerks Business Travel Rewards

thanks!

Any of them worth signing up for?

Would you recommend signing up for the old cards now or waiting for the new cards?

Just checked USB CC site, and those three
“U.S. Bank Flexperks Travel Visa (Consumer).
U.S. Bank Flexperks Select+ American Express.
The U.S. Bank Cash 365 American Express will be discontinued as well”
are indeed gone.

while
“The Gold Flexperks will apparently be staying around for a bit longer.”
is still there.
