[Expired] Speedpass+ App: Google Pay & Samsung Pay Promotions (Maybe Stack With AmEx Offer?)

Deal has expired, view more Speedpass deals by clicking here.

The Offer

  • ExxonMobil speedpass+ app has two new promotions:
    • Google pay: Score 100 bonus points on every fuel purchase of 8 gallons or more when you pay with Google Pay until 12/31
    • Samsung Pay: Get a 10c/gal instant rollback at the pump on every fuel purchase when you pay with Samsung Pay until 12/31

Our Verdict

You can currently get $10 back when you spend $20 or more using Speedpass+ via an American Express offer. It looks like Samsung Pay sometimes passes back the right merchant information and sometimes doesn’t, we don’t have any datapoints on Google pay unfortunately. That is to say that this promotion might stack with the amex offer and it might not. 100 points is $1 in savings, so not exactly a huge discount.

I don’t see how to add google pay to the speedpass+ app. I’m on an iPhone if that matters.

I don’t have an i-anything, so I can’t tell you for sure, but Google Pay support was just added to the Speedpass+ app, in fact I had to update the app on my phone last week to enable the feature. My guess is that Apple pay support just isn’t there yet.

Its only on Android phones right now — their Android app updated Nov 1st.

Looks like last iOS update was Aug 31st — it may or may not come to iOS on a future update

Does anyone know, if paying with Samsung Pay (and selecting Chase Freedom) launched from within the SpeedPass+ app will earn you 5% Cash Back (5x UR points)?

Typically, I would launch the Chase Pay app and then the Samsung Pay app from within the Chase Pay app. I always earn 5x UR points that way. But I notice now if you open the Samsung Pay app directly, there’s also a Chase Pay logo right above the Chase Cards. This makes me wonder if it’s necessary at all to even launch the Chase Pay app in the first place? Maybe and just maybe, we’d still earn 5% cash back when paying with Samsung Pay (Chase Freedom) directly?

Has anyone tested this with the SpeedPass+ app – if you pay with Samsung Pay (and select Chase Freedom), would you earn 5% cash back as well?

I haven’t used Samsung Pay in the ExxonMobil app, but I have used it for the Shoprite deal and it did code as Chase Pay from the Samsung Pay app and I got the bonus points.

So you bypassed the Chase Pay app altogether and launched the Samsung Pay app directly and it still coded as coming from Chase Pay? That’s awesome news!

I guess as long as they’ve been linked together (Chase Pay and Samsung Pay), paying with Samsung Pay directly would also earn you 5% cash back.

5% for paying directly with Freedom from SamPay will be hit or miss — just do a small $5-$10 fill up to see what happens

The cheapest gas stations close to home is from two competitors so only tried to use this app once in the past and I ended up with 5 pending authorizations in my credit card (even though it just showed errors), so in the end I filled my tank using my credit card as usual and uninstalled the app…

Had the same experience. On the fifth or sixth try, the app finally authorized the pump, but lots of $100 pending charges remained. Pretty crappy product, but I’ll keep giving it a go.

Interesting. My experience with the app has been flawless. Plus the Dosh app promotion too, I’ve been consistently earning 4% + 2% cash back each fill-up.

Because of this fully contactless payment system, I’ve been going to Exxon/Mobil most of the time. Plus, their Gas Stations have been renovated and are a lot better than Shell or other stations. I’ve even ditched Costco Gas Station for Mobil/Exxon now.

I every now and then go to Shell as well because I could earn 5% (Chase Pay) + 2% (Dosh) + Fuel Rewards per-gallon discounts (from T-mobile Tuesdays etc.), but experience-wise, I still enjoy filling up at a Mobil/Exxon gas station.

This is pretty sweet! Use Freedom with Samsung Pay linked with Chase Pay for 5x + $.10 + $.15 per gallon using speed pass linked with Exxon mobile rewards + (new signup for 1st 30 days) + 2% back w/ Dosh + 1% back w/ spent = $.25 per gallon off + 3% back + 5x!

Didn’t realize it was a speed pass app promotion. Likely won’t stack w/ $.15 cents off for New users

Thought Dosh and Spent were mutually exclusive? But if you live in DC/MD/VA area you can also stack with getupside if station participates

Hey Jay,

Dosh works with Samsung Pay? The number wouldn’t match up with what is on file with Dosh though since Samsung Pay uses digital number? Please confirm.

Dosh works fine since the virtual card number is linked to your regular card number — I’ve gotten cash back for using SamPay at Mobil and Sam’s Club

Might also stack with 10% back with Amex business card offer at Exxon Mobil. That offer stacks with the $10 using Speedpass.

Well, some good news, I think. I still got my 10% credit with the AmEx business offer after using Speedpass+ -> Google Pay -> AmEx. And got my 2% off via Dosh. And got my 5 points per gallon on EMR. But even though I got a little over 8 gallons, didn’t receive the 100 points bonus. Talked to Speedpass customer service tonight who confirmed that I met all the requirements and should have received the points and would have somebody look into it.

I’ve been able to stack Amex 10% with 10 off $20 on my SPG Biz through Samsung Pay.
