Spent Cashback App Negative Changes (3 Merchants Max Per Month, $15 Per Month Max In Earnings)

Update 5/30/19: You can now select merchants for June, looks like most of the better merchants have now been removed.

Update 4/22/19: You can now select your merchants for May. Hat tip to reader Ben W

Card linked cashback app Spent has sent out an e-mail to existing customers informing them of some changes. Users will now have to manually choose three merchants each month to earn cashback on. Earnings are also capped at $15 per month.

Slightly off-topic, but several people here have mentioned they’re delinking and deleting.

Along those lines, does anyone still see any value in retailmenot’s? https://www.doctorofcredit.com/retailmenot-app-deals-at-staples-cvs-macys-more/ is the last offering, and not only did I realize that I haven’t seen any offers in here, after reading this I went to look at it again. I updated the android app the other day, and I don’t see the in-store cashback section any more, and I can’t even find the “card linked accounts” in there either. It’s under “my payment methods” on the desktop site. Weird thing is I only have a VGC and a MC I don’t recognize….

Supposedly delinking the cards will stop them from receiving your data, but who really knows if they truly unsubscribe from your data feed….

I had my May automatic cashback as Mcdonalds, Chick-fil-a, and Lyft. None of these are available for June. None of the offers for June are places i shop at. 3 are not even in my geographic region. The odd June offer is “7 up”. How am i suppose to get automatic cashback from 7 Up? Do they happen to have a store front that i’m not aware of? I’ll keep the app til i can cashout, but this has turned aweful fast.

When they removed WAG and CVS from the list, I also uninstalled the app for good and didn’t look back.

What do they mean by “premium”, e.g., for Macy’s I see “1.68% premium”? (It sounds like an extra fee you have to pay)

I was patient with most of the devaluations, it was free money, but these new offers are literally worthless. Delete.

The merchants available for June are terrible. Not one place I ever shop at, let alone one I regularly shop at. Useless, bah humbug!

Right!? How does one even shop at 7-up!?

Yeah. It’s worthless now.

I’ve given up on Spent. I’ve removed all my CC’s except for a token one I never use. I still have $88.89 available to withdraw but I still have another $1.48 pending until the end of July. I’m trying to hold out till then and take it all at once, but I’m starting to grow concerned about where this app is headed. I am beginning to wonder if I should just take the $88 now and write off the last $1.48 rather than risk this app going under in the next two months and getting nothing.

Withdraw $68.89 now, leaving $20, the min withdrawal, to ensure that you’ll be able to withdraw again. I wouldn’t leave less in case the pending cash back is doesn’t come through.

Be CAREFUL about how they are using your data – including all those credit cards you have linked in the App. I saw some early signs that i really did NOT like and deleted the App about 4 months ago. Have not missed it. IMO Spent is a lost cause. What is more disappointing is that I have seen apps that DOSH become less useful (almost irrelevant) over the last few months as well.

Some early signs of what?

It’s beyond dead at this point. Dosh is about the same, only PEI is useful.

PEI is awesome. IDK how they’ll be able to maintain their current rewards structure though

Whole Foods is no longer listed as an eligible merchant for me and is being replaced by irrelevant merchants like ‘7UP’ and ‘Joe the Juice’. This mobile application is now worthless to me and I unlinked my cards and deleted my account.
