Stop&Shop/Giant/Martin’s Fuel Points Can Be Used On Groceries (‘Stop & Shop Go Rewards’)

[Update 8/4/20: This how now available to everyone for Stop&Shop, Giant, and Martin’s. Hat tip to reader Gerald]

Stop & shop is now allowing some gas rewards customers the ability to use their points towards grocery purchases. 100 points can be redeemed for $1 towards groceries (normally this can be used for 10¢ off per gallon). Most people will prefer the fuel discounts, but it’s always good to have additional flexibility. Safeway introduced the ability to do the same earlier in the year. It’s not clear if this will be rolled out for Giant and Martin’s as well or not.

I read through the details on Stop & Shop’s website yesterday and one thing I didn’t see mentioned is that you have 30 days to choose a reward (gas or groceries). And then you have 30 days from the day you choose to use the reward. So essentially, this seems like a 60 day expiration if you wait until the last possible day to load your reward. Please let me know if I’ve misinterpreted.

I just spoke to customer service. You can’t convert gas points to grocery points. You can convert the new Go Points to either groceries or gas.

At Giant Food of Landover Maryland, don’t try to combine your grocery flexible points (dollars off total order) with a store basket discount (dollars off total order i.e. Buy $15 worth of Dove products, get $5 off). It won’t work, and you will only get the store basket discount. Giant Food coupon policy only allows ONE basket discount (dollars off total order) per transaction.

I’d love to take advantage of this. I called the toll-free number about a month ago to change my phone number, and the phone rep told me this was something in the works. But I can’t figure out how to convert my existing points to go points. Can anyone explain how to do that? I’m in the New England stop and shop area. I am disabled and don’t drive, but I do like to eat! I tried calling customer service last week several times, but it kept giving me a busy signal.

I called the toll-free number early this morning, and the phone rep was able to move my points. Now the expiration date says September 3. She also explained that the maximum usage is $20 per transaction, but I should be able to do multiple transactions on the same day.

So, very good.

Hardly “new” news, DoC. Where ya been? I’ve been noting this here (and over at GCGalore) for at least two months…. Guess ya’all have me on ignore for some reason….

In any case, nothing “unclear” then about Martin’s — yes, you CAN redeem your Martin’s fuel (aka “choice”) points there for groceries (but not gift cards), and yes, at the rate of 1,000 points equals $10. You must, however, elect to do the redemptions before you go to the store. (I did it via my computer before going to the store — but no, I didn’t try using the MISERABLE Martin’s app)

And to gripes/questions below, while you are limited to $20 per redemption, you CAN do more than one redemption per day. (I’ve done several back to back, and the system automatically adds the second to the first….. last did this a few days ago.)

Also, even if your Martin’s points might expire on last day of the month, when you redeem them for grocery credit/dollars, tah dah, you then have til the end of the following month to use them. (I did this last day of June — redeemed a lot about to expire, and they were then good til end of July. Did it again with July expiring fuel points few days ago)

Last thing, once your points are “redeemed,” you don’t have to worry about coupons. The credit posts directly to your account, and comes off your next grocery purchase.

(as I chirped over at GCGalore, this one of several areas where the Safeway, Martin’s (et. al.) choice/fuel points program is well ahead of Kroger…. Wish that Kroger would catch up.)

While I’m at it, one other comparative issue betwixt Martin’s and Kroger….. is the limits on gallons per fill-up, and the maximum cents off per gallon permitted. At every Martin’s fuel center I’ve used, you can use your points up to the EXACT cost per gallon of the fuel grade selected (as in limited only by the cost of the gas), and the volume limit is 25 gallons per transaction. (though Martin’s forbids filling up more than one vehicle per transaction…. so bring your cans, if you like)

By contrast, Kroger limits usually are 35 gallons per transaction (many vehicles as you care/dare to handle), but discount ordinarily limited to $1.00/gallon. (except in a few select places where Kroger is competing currently, or in the past…… ummmmm… with places like Martin’s…. and so no limits in such places…. except they round the max discount off annoyingly down to the nearest “even” 10 cent plateau…. just below gas cost….. pennies yes, but another point for Martin’s. )

It’s been that way for months at all 3? It’s totally plausible, I don’t know. I just post things when I learn about them. Certainly didn’t ever intend to ignore you, not sure what you are referencing.

I have 1500 stop&shop fuel rewards expiring soon. This is really great news to avoid losing those points. However, I could not find how to make use of the points. Do you just check out and select pay with rewards points?

I have 1500 stop&shop points expiring in few days. I went to stop&shop today only to find that I could not redeem any points at the register. The manager told me there is no way to convert the fuel rewards points to go points, which I feel suspicious.

I used this benefit at Martins recently but it was limited to $20 per day for groceries. So, make sure you know that so you can maximize the benefit.

Can you convert your existing gas points to go reward points.. I have a truckload ready to expire and the customer service desk is not of much help.

customer service reps at most Martin’s I shop at are all friendly, very young, and what not, but not necessarily all that well versed in the newer choice/fuel points programs…. (First time I inquired I got bad info, and took a while, and extra trips to get it right….) To your truckload, you could wait til the last day of a month when they expire, and convert them, 2,000 points at a time, to $20 each…. (which will then expire end of the next month — at least that was my experience, twice…. )

But try it out carefully for yourself. You could try converting 2,000 per day…. You don’t have to use them for groceries before you redeem more – if that’s your wish. (you just can’t use them to pay for gift cards… I tried)

But my existing gas points are in a separate section called gas savings and I am unable to convert that to grocery dollars 🙁 And what i mean by truck load is that its way more than i require. I have points for 8 fill ups which expires in the next 10 days. Grocery is definitely better than wasted points.

Giant Food of Landover has had this feature since June. This is a good way to use the orphaned points that didn’t go towards gas for other things . Unfortunately you cant use it towards gift cards or cash equivalents.

Do these apply to “groceries”? Or just groceries.
