I was targeted for the 2x and enrolled. I have had the Amex Bus Plat for about three years. My wife is a new cardholder and was not targeted.
Technically, I don’t think there’s a 1,000,000 MR limit to this promotion. You would stop earning 2x once you hit 1,000,000 MR because that’s the limit on the 1.5x offer. But the extra 0.5x would still let you earn 1.5x beyond that until the promo ends.
Based on my reading I believe you are correct.
“You already get 1.5 points per dollar on purchases of $5,000 or more, up to 1 million additional points per calendar year”
“Enroll now to earn an extra half point on these purchases”
“There’s no limit to the additional points you can earn with this offer.” 2 points/$ on all >$5k purchases, then after you hit $2,000,000 in this kind of spending (and have earned 1 million additional MR through the first promo), you will drop to 1.5 MR.
Combined with the 50% back deal this is pretty incredible.
No luck for me on the 5X or this deal and I’ve had the business card for several years.
