Contents

The Offer

  • Alliant Credit Union is offering some Visa Signature card holders a $10 bonus when you pay a qualifying bill three months in a row between March 1st and May 31st, 2019. This deal can be done multiple times

The Fine Print

  • In order to receive a $10 cash back reward, the billed transactions must qualify under 2 sets of criteria: paying your bill 3 months in a row (one transaction in March, one in April, and one in May) with your Alliant Cashback Visa Signature Card AND each billed transaction must have the qualifying merchant code.
  • The following merchant codes apply towards this offer: cable internet and streaming services 4899; insurance 6300; cell phone 4814, electric, gas, sanitary, & water 4900; child care 8351; gym membership 7997. Transactions from other merchants do not apply and we do not control how merchants are categorized. We do not evaluate whether merchants correctly identify and bill transactions; however we do reserve the right to determine which transactions qualify for the bonus rewards offers.
  • You can earn multiple $10 cash back bonuses as long as both qualifying criteria are met per bill.

Our Verdict

Pretty great offer, especially considering people are getting this on the 2.5/3% card as well.

It just posted on my Aug statement for $30. Used cell phone insurance and streaming.

Didn’t matter on the amount so long it posted within the proper month outlined in the terms. April May and June.

FYI This card is often used for me. Because my Aug rewards are $280 minus the $250 (max at 10k spend) leaves $30 for this offer.

Also a tip, you can change your Netflix billing cycle to generate a charge for your current month. Not that it matters now but for the future if you find that you only have 1 streaming service this Helped me.

Thanks Doc

A new targeted is released.

Earn $10 by linking to a mobile wallet. Making 10 eligible purchases totaling $100 via Apple Samsung or google. Thru 9-1 to 9-30 and a $10 will be deposited $45 after 9/30.

Apply pay Venmo and PayPal P2P are excluded.

I might pass. The 10 transactions makes it difficult for me.

Still waiting….fine print says payout up to 45 days after promotion ends June 30th, so they still have some time.

Mine says April May and June. So I’m on the updated target offer.

I understand this as I can make Any payment amount up to 6 different categories for 3 consecutive months and get $60.

Ex So maybe a $2 cell phone bill for 3 months, if you happened to had paid in advance already using the chase 1QTR 5% or want a .5% more using CIP.

Or is there something I’m missing?

I am not seeing any minimum payment amount, are you? Can I pay my $100 phone bill with fifty $2 bill pays and get 50 bonuses?

Or is it tied to the merchant code? One one bonus for “cell phone 4814” merchant code category, regardless of number of transactions?

I’m with you, I don’t see a min spend amount, so I assume any amount that is consecutive for 3 months would count with the above codes.

I may make $30 off of this Cell phone, Utilities, and Streaming, unfortunately my insurance is paid in full and i cannot pay ahead.

Does anyone have prior data points that answer min spend amounts?

Two questions:
1) Are the Merchant Codes that Alliant “reads” visible for transactions on the alliant website or statement?
2) This bonus is not a “bill pay” one, right? I just need to have one of the legible merchant codes in April/May/June, right? So for example, I input my Alliance credit card number at my phone company’s “make a payment page”, right?

Based on the lack of details in their offer, I lean towards any reoccurring transaction for the 3 months that fall under their codes would work. I did not see the codes visible on the statement or website.

Customer Service Representative reports the following*:
– Merchant codes are visible to them, but not us. If you are uncertain if a charge was coded as eligible you can call and ask CSR.
– Do not set up through Bill Pay (that draws from your checking or savings account, not your credit card).
– No minimum transaction amount
– Transaction over the telephone are eligible
– Transaction need not be “recurring” (e.g. set it up once and it occurs two more times without intervention). Three separate “manual” charges are acceptable.

Questions others interested parties might comfirm:
– Does transaction amount need to be same amount for all three months?
– Transactions are based on calendar months, not credit card statement cycles

I’m about to downgrade my 2.5% card in a week. Gotta cash out points and downgrade *before* the annual fee hits as they do not waive or prorate the fee! I doubt switching card type mid-primo would qualify.

Might want to DB check if you will get hit with the $99 fee. I got in at Feb 2019 and I only got the $59 fee, so I will keep the card one more year and then switch to the 2% card.
