[Expired] [Targeted] American Express Marriott Bonvoy Business: Spend Offer for up to 45,000 Bonus Points

Deal has expired, view more Bonvoy deals by clicking here

Update 3/6/19: E-mails have just been sent out to more cardholders. Subject line is ‘<name>, Earn up to 45,000 Bonus Points’. Hat tip to reader Brian.

The Offer

Targeted offer, showing when logged in

  • Some Marriott Bonvoy Business cardholders are being offered a bonus 7,500 Marriott Bonvoy points each month for six months (up to 45,000 points total) when they spend $5,000 or more in eligible purchases that month.
  • Others have a similar offer but for 15,000 points with $10,000 in spend

The Fine Print

  • Enroll your Marriott Bonvoy Business Card by 4/7/19
  • Offer is good for a maximum of 6 months, or until 10/7/19.

Our Verdict

Works out to be an extra 1.5x points per $1 spent if you spend exactly $5,000. Card normally earns 2x points per $1 spent on all purchases, this would make it 3.5x per $1 spent if you spend exactly $5,000. That’s only slightly better than what the SPG business card used to earn (3x points) and is only for a limited time and only if you spend exactly $5,000. Still might be useful to cardholders who receive this offer, but in the long term this card has definitely gotten worse with the merger.

Hat tip to John B & James S

The offers we got on our cards are $10K for 15K miles for 6 months. This is at least 2nd time if not 3rd time we got such offers. Hard to achieve and we pass.

Just FYI, if you enroll you will still see the offer and the enrollment button available in your Amex offers. When you click on it again it will either say you’re already enrolled, or it MIGHT say the page is “unavailable, try again later.” Had to call to confirm enrollment when I kept getting that strange message, since I wasn’t sure if I had enrolled.

Any theories on who they are targeting? Big spenders, sock drawer zero spenders, former spenders who dropped to low spending, former spenders that dropped to zero spending? Or maybe nothing at all to do with past spending patterns?

If I register today, do I only have 5 days this month to spend $5k?

Or 3 since it’s February

I wonder if it’s calendar month or statement month? Or play it safe and knock out a $5k order at GCM today. 🙂

Per chat with Amex rep, the spending is determined by calendar month.

Thanks! I should have waited to register until March 1st.

No need. You have until October, so if you start in March you’ll still have 6 months to maximize the bonus.

Can this be combined with https://www.doctorofcredit.com/live-register-your-marriott-bonvoy-american-express-for-bonus-spend-offer-of-up-to-100000-points/

If you spent $5,000 each month for 5 months, you would net 4.5x on regular spend, more if bonus categories are used.

No – that offer is for the personal card. This is for the business card.

wait isn’t it 3 pts/$ normally and 4pts/$ with this?

so for those who could ms gas at 4pts/$ normally, could get 5pts/$ on $5k/month (actually reasonable return)

While some of these auto-populate when logging in, I had to find mine under Amex Offers. Was there and registered.

Not targeted, and this would have been very useful for me. Nerts.
