[Targeted] Avianca: Additional 1x Point Per $1 Spent ($2,000 Limit)

The Offer

Targeted offer sent out via e-mail. Subject line is ‘<name>, get an extra LifeMile with every purchase!’

  • Some Avianca cardholders are being offered an additional point per $1 spent

The Fine Print

  • With this offer, you can earn up to a maximum of 2,000 additional LifeMiles per monthly billing cycle.
  • You’ll earn 1 extra LifeMile per $1 spent on all purchases when you use your Avianca Vuela Visa® Card from 11/14/2019 through 02/12/2020.
  • During this promotional period, you will earn 4 LifeMiles for every $1 in Net Purchases charged for qualified tickets purchased directly from Avianca,, or Avianca Call Center; you’ll earn 3 LifeMiles for every $1 in Net Purchases spent at qualifying gas stations and grocery stores, which are those categorized by the merchant or its processor as gas stations and grocery stores using the merchant category code; and you’ll earn 2 LifeMiles for each $1 spent on all other eligible Net Purchases.

Our Verdict

Even if this is slightly useful the 2,000 point cap more or less ruins it.

Notify of

an additional 2000 points per monthly billing cycle, x 3 months, at 3x on grocery,
equals 6000 total spent and 18,000 lifemiles correct?

That is correct. But you can achieve something much better with American Express Gold where you can earn 4 MR per dollar on Groceries. Sometimes we can get 15-25% lifemiles transfer bonus. That implies we can get 4-5 Life Miles with Gold card

I’m surprised Avianca didn’t send this offer to every card member, especially members who haven’t spent any money on this card after earning the sign up bonus (like myself).
